Matt Moulson goes to Pittsburgh in the 9th round.

As a quick visit to http://www.spiritone.com/~kepler/players/cornellNHLDraft.html will show, we have never had 3 incoming players drafted before - in any rounds!  The five draft picks this year are the 3rd most in any draft year, behind the amazing years of 89 and 90, when 6 players were drafted each year.

In 1990, three of the guys were in the supplemental draft.  Of the nine from that era in the regular draft, the average draft position was 91; for the five this year, the average was 136.  The 90-91 team had 13 draft picks (10 "numbered," including Corrie D'Alessio from '88, average = 93); next year, we'll have only 7 - this year's 5 plus Glover and Lenny, combined average = 140.

What does all that mean?  Absolutely nothing.  We've got the same players showing up this fall that we did on Friday.  Work hard this summer, boys - the rewards will come in March.

A thread on the BCHL board about Ryan O'Byrne being drafted. (Be aware that this board has a lot of pop-up ads.) http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/thread?forumid=146929&messageid=1056269209&lp=1056317235

One guy on that thread rips O'Byrne for being soft.  I think Schafer will help him toughen up!

I know Cornell has a history with recruiting western Canadian players...does anyone know if there are any particular connections/reasons why the Rangers have been going after (seemingly) a lot of Ivy players (besides the education)?

Cool...Moulson to Pittsburgh.  Go Pens  :)

Here's an article that has a little bit about Mark McCutcheon, with comments from his father.

How many draft picks have they spent on Ivy players? (I know of the two this year and Dominic Moore -- any others?)

those were the three that I was thinking of...I put the "seemingly" in there because it seemed like a lot to me but maybe not to others.  It may just be a result of Ivy hockey becoming a dominant force in the ECAC...

Don't get too excited about that; these things ebb and flow.  Just remember it in a few years when either fluctuations or the swing of the pendulum reverses the situation and some Clarkson/SLU/UVM/RPI fan starts mouthing off about how the Ivies (especially Brom and Darmouth :-P) are dragging the rest of the ECAC down.

Especially since this year, Brom's and Darmouth's schedules have many games against Anybody, but few against Nobody and Cupcake.

Hopp SCB!

Of course, since he's a youngster, he wasn't playing three years ago when I was last there.

Apparently the Swiss national team's goalie in the recent world championship plays for Bern as well.  I was there for the second-to-last and penultimate seasons of beloved veteran Renato Tosio, so again, after my time.

I miss having a hockey team play ten minutes' walk from my apartment. :-/
