So I was more than surprised to flip my TV to espn2 just as they were talking about....Dartmouth hockey?  Jessiman just went #12 overall by a team that's talked about way too much on this board.  :-P

Ithaca native Dustin Brown followed him at #13 by the Kings.  The commentators talked about him being part of a "new trend" of US born players going to the Canadian Juniors, and then said "Native of Ithaca?  How did Cornell University not get him??"

Vanek went #5 to the Sabres.

Now I have one more reason to hate Jessiman.

I checked my watch, and it appears that it is time for Jessiman to start sucking.

#1 overall was Marc-Andre Fleury, the guy who started ahead of Lenny on the Canadian WJC team.

While it would've been awesome to have Dustin Brown play for Cornell, I think a lot of people forget that the moment he agreed to play Canadian Juniors -- i.e. three years ago, when he was 15 -- he lost the eligibility to play for any college team.  It's not like there was some huge recruiting coup and Cornell lost him to another NCAA team; instead, he made an active decision to do what would help him develop his skills to the fullest extent possible.  As much as I would have loved to see him in a Cornell jersey, I think it's hard to argue against his decision given the results of the draft.

I'm just thinking....Murray (and Mark McRae, wasn't he?) was an 8th round pick, and O'Byrne is a 3rd round pick.  If O'Byrne ends up better than Murray and McRae by the end of college....we've got a damn good defensemen on our hands.

(I) means "incoming", as in "incoming NCAA player".

Jeff Hopkins \'82

Unless he pulls a Niewendyk and opts out early.

Wow...we've got an amazing incoming class, it seems.  Have we ever had 3 incoming players drafted in round 5 or higher? (4 total)  Most of our incoming guys end up getting drafted in the later rounds. (at least, in recent memory)
