Not that I'm an excessively reckless parent, but my then 9-year-old son was allowed into Dunbars the night the cup arrived in 1999.  On second thought, it's probably safer to let a little kid into a bar, knowing that the bartenders will not serve serve an obvious minor.

Scott Jr. and I still talk about that night.  The key was knowing where to stand outside the bar.  Hint:  "Hey, Scotty.  Where do you think they can park?"

When I was in Ithaca in February, they almost didn't let me into Dunbar's because all I had was my CA drivers' license.  I was asked for my area code when they then looked up in a book before letting me in.  I was so tempted to  inform them that they let me in all the time when I was 19....

As far as the age requirement for that night...

I have pictures from '99 that were taken inside of Dunbars of someones baby sitting inside of the Cup...

I'm wondering when it will be possible to confirm/deny this... see, my parents were planning on having some people over that weekend as a little graduation get together for me, but it's no big deal to reschedule if necessarily... I'm just wondering when we might be able to confirm or deny this trip of Joe's, when will word officially spread? or is it intentionally kept hush or something?

I don't know if there will be an official (or unofficial) announcement (although considering the weekend is partly a benefit for Mike Tallman, there may be one), but I have heard that it is indeed happening, from someone who is friends with both Joe and Schafer.

CUlater, and on the 7/11 weekend, right?

According to the hockey office, Joe is definitely bringing the Cup for 7/11, I am unclear whether it will be brought to the alum game as part of the evening or as a separate event, but it will be Friday...altho I suspect the Cup (& Joe) will be visiting other venues as well (a la 1999). I'll post when I hear, unless someone beats me to it!

From the HHOF:

"...After visiting schools on Wednesday morning, Joe Nieuwendyk received permission to visit an old teammate from his days at Cornell University, with the Stanley Cup in tow. Joe's friend Mike is paralyzed, but the arrival of the Stanley Cup did wonders to brighten the spirits of Mike and a number of other patients at the Rehabilitation Centre. "Winning the Stanley Cup is amazing, and having fun with it is great, but for me, this is the part of winning the Cup that makes it so special," said the Devil veteran. ..."  There is a picture of them with the Cup - http://www.hhof.com/html/exSCJ_03.shtml

No, not necessarily.  Each player on the winning team gets to have the Cup for a minimum of 1 day.  Joe took the Cup to Ithaca last time, but later in the summer he also brought it to his hometown in Canada.

sounds to me like it was mostly just some local publicity stuff and not technically his "day" with the cup ...

The alumni hockey game is Friday 7/11 at 7 or 7:30 pm. Last time I talked to the hockey office was last Thursday, and at that time the word was that Joe was still trying to get the Cup for that day. If he succeeds, it will be at the alumni game.
The golf outing is on Saturday 7/12, starts about 11:30, includes lunch, golf, dinner for $115. Dinner can also be attended as a separate option for $25. The sign-up deadline was last week, June 27.
don't have word on any parties...anyone else?

Okay, so if golf is 7/12, the Cup likely won't be there for that... so do we know anything beyond the Alumni game and Dunbars? I know it showed up at Glenwood Pines and a couple other places in '99 . I have my trip to Ithaca set (I was gonna come up sometime this summer anyway, so this is a perfect excuse), and I'd like to be able to know what the Cup might be doing.
