Not sure what "Davy in 3" is, but I'm somewhat surprised you could hear much of the band on the broadcast at all. By the end of the game I think they were up to ten or twelve people, including, I believe, one trumpet, one trombone, one sax, and one tuba, but they started the game shorter than that, and without a trumpet player. They did not get to play the anthems tonight and the first time they played Davy it was barely recognizable, probably due to the lack of brass.

Highlight of the broadcast was Grady bringing up the We Want Weder series against Colgate when we scored 10 in game 1 and Tim saying "yeah i played in that one."

The band would play Davy in 3/4 tempo if we scored a bunch of goals, just to be different.

Interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks!

FWIW, it appears that the last time RPI gave up as many as 11 goals was on 2/22/86 in an 11-0 loss to Harvard, the year after winning the NCAA championship. Conceivably my eyes missed a more recent game.

Edit: RPI also lost 11-0 to Clarkson on 11/22/97.

Same. It didn't happen. Not complaining. I'll be happy with whatever they play if we score 10+.
I'll add that Arthur was on his game with some nice vocal change in announcing that expressed the specialness as the score got larger and with the Andreev hatty.

I think they also neglected the 8-goal cheer. (Though I remember that cheer ending with "gee, that sucks" or something like that.

I feel obligated to point out that the Weder series was in 1996 and the 10-goal game was five years earlier.

At the rink in section L we could hear the band but often felt we were playing "Name That Tune" with ear protection. Hope their numbers get back to normal.

The crowd numbers too, but will note the video camera is showing the townie side of the rink and sections A through E were much more filled.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

Quote from: dbilmesI feel sorry for RPI goalie. Why did they leave him in the entire game? Is their backup that bad?

That was my thought. Marshall should've been pulled as early as the fluky 4th goal. His defense didn't do him any favors but he shouldn't have been in there after the 1st period.

We were wondering if perhaps the backup goalie was nursing some injury that they didn't want to risk aggravating.

After one of the second period goals my daughter saw Marshall say something to one of his players who then skated to the bench and spoke to the coach who seemed to say no. We're thinking Marshall may have been asking to come out.

Would love to know why he was left in.

upprdeck

you could put 2 and 2 together.

the team is generating pretty solid chances so far..  Hopefully some of the sloppy stuff in our own end gets cleaned the next few weeks.  Some of it is not just taking the clean play when it presents itself.   We scored 11 and probably had good chances for 2-3 more but we also could have allowed 2-3 more with the mistakes we made.   Almost shot one in our own net in the 2nd as well.

Jason mentioned that Harvard would gain 2 points last night with a shoot out win to be determined after the Cornell broadcast ended.

Harvard won the shoot out over St Lawrence but CHN still shows them with 10 points which is only one more than they had before last night's game. But Jason is correct as the ECAC site shows them with 11 points.

Sucks to be trailing Harvard by 2 and Sucks that a shootout gives them that extra point.

blowing the 2 goal lead and not getting the game to OT is a 3 pt swing. Winning it we would be 3pts up with games in hand. getting to OT and losing we would be tied with games in hand.

Need to play well this weekend and then the north country trip we always dread in a few weeks will decided how we stand after the first half of the season,.

Yale and Brown have not played well so far, and we need to punish them for that. ::deadhorse::

Coming to Lynah is going to be, I think, quite disorienting for teams who don't have many (if any) fans at home games this season and/or who didn't play last year. Also, I can't be the only one to have noticed the reflection created by the glare of the new video board off the glass at the opposite end of the rink. Opposing goalies have one more reason to hate our ice.

The worrisome games are road games, mostly, but that's not news nor is it universal. We always seem to play well at Clarkson, probably because it's one of the few rinks that approximates our atmosphere. SLU, on the other hand... That's one of the games I worry about every year. I suppose every fan has a list. Clarkson fans hate Lynah; the Harvard fan hates seeing Clarkson anywhere. Mine is:

Brown          Away    Just Meehan's general lack of atmosphere. If Brown were any better, it'd be a problem.
Dartmouth      Away    This is known and legendary.
Princeton      Away    When we lived there, I saw us give away so many games...
Quinnipiac     Home    QU always comes in with a chip on their shoulder.
RPI            Home    Last night notwithstanding, I've seen plenty of give aways to RPI over the years.
SLU            H/A     Hate playing SLU anywhere, always.
Union          Away    Every once in a while, we just seem to get BTFO in Messa. I remember one where we had 9 shots all game.

After the Alaska series, I would've told you it would take us 8 games to total 11 goals given how stagnant our offense looked that weekend. We've come a long way in a short time.
