Quote from: TrotskyThere's no point in hosting at a site Cornellians can't get to easily.

I am all for Cornell hosting in NY, CT, NJ, maybe PA.  Otherwise, meh.

I agree.  I think my point was that it needn't be practically next door (essentially Rochester or Buffalo).

Does anyone have an informed opinion , not just speculation, as to what schools get out of the deal when they host (assuming their team is unlikely to make the tournament ala UVM)?

It was a "wide open town" back when, so perhaps there will be an apres hockey scene with gambling, gangsters, and whores.  I mean if you like that sort of thing.

Meh, sounds like Allentown.

I can only find info on 2500 seat indoor and a 4000 seat semi-outdoor arena in Maryland Heights.  One is the Blues' practice facility.  Seems kinda small, unless someone is planning to build something bigger.

Only the casinos.  Stay away from them and it's one of the most lovely locations in the country.

I avoided them as much as I could.  I spent most of my time out in the desert.  But you still have to sleep somewhere, and get from your hotel to the arena.

In other words, LV is nice, as long as you're not in LV.

No, LV is nice as long as you don't interact with any people there.

where are you staying in vegas to feel that way. had nothing but great times out there. Between shopping/shows/gambling/food/exhibits/golf there is so much to do. Then take day side trips if you want too..  What was sleezy about your visits?

I love Vegas, but, to be fair, there's a place like this on every commercial surface street off the Strip.

And of course the Strip itself makes 25A in Nassau County look charming and refined.

Nice eyebrow, though.

no doubt.. but never had a reason to leave the strip, in only go in 3-4 day doses so never enough down time to need to wonder around the city.. much like any other city, When I go to Boston i dont just wonder to other parts of the city either.

French Rage

Oh Vegas is fine in small doses.  We enjoyed the hockey weekend, just enough time to see the craziness but not get annoyed with it.  I'd be more than happy to have a couple more hockey tournaments there and a FF on/near the West Coast is awesome too.

We have friends who have lived in Vegas for a decade.  They've never been to the Strip.  It is a vacuum cleaner to suck the wallets of moron tourists and keep the Life Giving Water coming.  Imagine Times Square with attractive people.

I haven't found the Sic Bo tables in Time Square though I wasn't looking.

I was staying a few blocks from the arena.  You had to walk through a smoky, noisy sports bar and casino just to get from the room to the garage as well as to get out the front door.  Then you had to cross the strip through crowds including panhandlers, showgirls, touts, and what were most likely hookers to get to the arena.

I was there for hockey, not shows or gambling.  I spent my days birdwatching in the desert.  That was nice.

Actually, I wouldn't mind if we ended up in Longmont.  There's some great birdwatching areas within an hour of there.
