Worse yet, the pressure leaps to beat the team from the school where dying mothers refuse to send their sons.

GBR1234

Still at #4 in USA Today for 1/22... Go figure.

upprdeck

unless we beat Harvard and Clarkson i doubt we get any higher and if we did run that table we probably would deserve it on record alone, as to whether we would be the best I doubt it until we actually played someone OC.

Way too early to make any statement like this.  As Annie Savoy said, "it's a long season and you gotta trust it."  Five more RS weeks plus the conference tournies means we could be seeded anywhere from #1 to golf.

FWIW, PlayoffStatus.com current odds for Cornell:

.99 ECAC QF
.94 ECAC SF
.69 ECAC F
.41 ECAC Champion

.99 NC$$ Bid
.70 NC$$ QF
.43 NC$$ SF
.24 NC$$ F
.13 NC$$ Champion

Que sera, sera.

16 teams in the NC tourney. If each team had equal probability, P[NC] = 0.0625. So P[NC] = 0.13 is not that bad.

And, as Upprdeck points out, beating Harvard and/or Clarkson is necessary to hold our position. If we do, P[NC] might even increase.

We're not yet in a position to say we will beat any other team most nights, but we are in position to say realistically we could beat any other team on a given night. Given where we started out this season, I'm overjoyed that this is where we are.

Here's all, except for USA Women's, which doesn't come out till tomorrow, and I refuse to be bothered by that. Or, maybe I should say, I am bothered by that.

Anyone looking for PWR, look up a number of posts.

I'm not bothered much by the differences between the polls, except that we get 15 votes for first in USCHO, about 30%, and NONE in USA. What's up with that.

An 81% chance at being a 1-seed? I'll take that!

The USA Today results seem weird to me, as though they took the votes Friday night and the Saturday and Sunday results aren't factored in.

I see the table, I see Cornell is #2 in one poll. But, Lord, are we really the second-best time in the nation? Am I refusing to believe? Or do older alumni simply have more experience having their dreams crushed? Even the 2009 lacrosse title game makes me, ah, uncertain that we're a frozen four team let alone a potential national champion. Still, it's worth scoping out hotels for Lake Placid now.

And worth noting 3 of the 4 NCAA regional sites are driving distance.

East Regional, Webster Bank Arena – Bridgeport, Connecticut (Host: Fairfield and Yale)
Northeast Regional, DCU Center – Worcester, Massachusetts (Host: Holy Cross)
Midwest Regional, PPL Center – Allentown, Pennsylvania (Host: Penn State)
West Regional, Premier Center – Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Host: North Dakota)

St. Paul is a fabulous hockey town but it involves an airplane.

Agree, I'd probably drive, hate airports, but I'm also crazy and love to drive.

Yet I bought our tickets last week on Southwest and plan to hook up with a high school friend who will probably extol Minnesota's superiority.

Pathetically Parenthetically , has anyone else here noticed the number of B1G schools in the top 20? Since their inception as a league they have had approximately exactly zero (0) Frozen Four appearances.  Maybe this will be the year they break the ice.::smashfreak::

When Minnesota made the championship game in 2014, that was in the first year of the Big Ten.

That's what I get for relying on a 66 year old single core processor with defective memory sectors.  ::worry::
