Yes.  But it won't create more Cornell catering, it may split between locations.

Not clear from the story, but Chipotle is company owned so it needs to have traffic to make money.

They should take some business from MacD but its not the same type of fast food for eating on the go.  You can grab a burger and shake and drive away.  You need to plan to be sitting someplace for Chipotle.

If you are doing door dash does it really matter that there are 2 stores?  Maybe it gets a bit quicker.  Never used Door Dash so I have no idea.

the one downtown is not nearly as busy as when it started out

Now you have Taco bell and 2 other mexican places up on the hill already.
Tbf, Chipotle does a LOT of catering for events at Cornell. So the foot traffic might not show the whole story.

Chipotle also now does a lot of UberEats and DoorDash business. And for what it's worth, if I want what I usually get at Chipotle I'm not going to go to Taco Bell or a more traditional Mexican restaurant. I go to a Mexican restaurant for Mexican food, I go to Chipotle for Chipotle.
That's true as well. You go to Chipotle for Chipotle, to Taco Bell for Taco Bell, to probably Zocalo for actual Mexican.

That being said, neither Chipotle is really in a foot traffic friendly spot. You plonk one in Collegetown and that place would be TEEMING.

Chick-fil-a buying land for a potential site in Auburn.

Ithaca is bigger and has a big student population and we cant even keep a BK or Pizza hut , applebees chain going here.

And there was a time when Collegetown was wall-to-wall Italian and Chinese restaurants. And grimy apartment houses. The Italian places had straw-wrapped wine bottles with candles. Like in the Nixon-Reagan era. Today's students will come back for their 50th and wax eloquent about the long-gone bubble tea places. Harkness will still be a god.

Sure, but there was demand for that stuff in ctown. You have 5 different mexican(esque) places in Lansing.

Hey!  I lived in one of those grimy apartments.  It had hot and cold running cockroaches.  But it was literally around the corner from Dunbar's, so it worked for me.
