US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz gave the keynote speech Thursday at the Washington Auto Show. The show director introduced him as a "graduate of BU who received his PhD in physics at Stanford" and has been on faculty at MIT since the 1970s. First thing Moniz did when he got on stage was to set things straight: "Actually, it was BC I attended and I would like to point out that BC beat BU 4-2 in hockey Friday." Nice that a guy who tracked America's nuclear stockpile under Clinton still keeps up on hockey. He is the guy with the amazing hair that drew a lot of tweets when he was shown at the state of the union speech.

Are we sure that's not just Mike Myers with another terrible new character?

I was impressed that he talked like a college professor with a lot of mental horsepower on tap. He had a couple of ums and ers and that made it seem like a real guy was running one of the Cabinets. A friend next to me, pretty conservative Republican, heard the speech and said Moniz sounded like the kind of guy who could work in a Democratic or Republican administration pretty well.

Looks more like Andy Kaufman nearing the denouement of a 31-year-long prank.
