Going to have to disagree somewhat on Gotovets for Gage. He's not supposed to be in a supporting role. Not making smart decisions is what landed him in said role.

Certainly agree on Hunwick -- amazing class he displayed after losing an OT game in the NCAA tournament.

As highly as I think of Espo, I think Collins was the MVP this season. He really raised his game in his Senior season.  That being said, I think Espo will have a huge season next year.

Even though Esposito was clearly valuable to the team as evidenced by how they played when he was hurt, I don't think you can give the MVP to a guy that missed significant time. I would give it to Greg Miller for being the team leader in both goals and assists.

Yeah, it's gotta be Miller.

There should be a toughness award--Espo would certainly win that.

Birch, Lowry, and McCarron also stood out this year.

I'm with Trotsky on Espo as the MVP for exactly the reason he said.  When he played the team played better.  When he didn't, they slumped.

My only disagreement is that for freshman, I'd have chosen Ryan over Ferlin.  Ferlin might have the numbers, but he hardly plays like a team player.  Ryan has solid numbers and played for the team rather than for show for himself as it looked to me like Ferlin did.

RatushnyFan

I'd argue that Ryan's numbers, as a defenseman, are more impressive than Ferlin's.  I didn't see enough games, but in all fairness Ryan probably needs to tighten up defensively.  If he can play better d and keep helping the team score he'll be really really good, just like some really smart guy thought.

Trotsky

I would expect someone named RatushnyFan to know defensemen.  :)

I disagree with the choice of Iles for the Hayward-LeNeveu award. Neither Marozzi nor Kanji let in a single goal all year! :-D

Why isn't the goalie award named after Ken Dryden?

I never got the impression that Ferlin wasn't a team player, but I was just in awe of his puck possession skills. He was like a one man cycle out there. That said, Ryan would be a worthy winner too.

From the 2006 awards, the first year in which they were hyphenated:

Quote from: TrotskyThis season marks a hyphenation of these awards, initially named after the members of the mid 80's Team of Destiny that captured the 1986 ECAC title and came within an eyelash of the (as yet to be christened) Frozen Four.  The new names represent members of the recent Renaissance which, under the able direction of Mike Schafer, has restored the Big Red to regular NCAA contention.

You're kind of contradicting yourself right there. I don't think anyone's saying Ferlin's an asshole. I believe what was inferred was that he was a puck hog. He was actually learning to play with his line by the time he got hurt.

Oh I didn't mean it that way, I meant more that he could run the system and create chances largely by himself. But I guess I can see him as a puck hog. I thought that maybe midway through the season he was trying to do to much with the puck, but I was every bit as impressed by his passing as his ability to hold the puck. Of course most of the moments that are coming to mind regarding Ferlin are mid second semester.
