As stated, the elegance of the Cornell hockey sweater is in both its elegant simplicity and its history. It resembles the jerseys worn throughout Cornell history, even though there have been slight changes, they all are throwbacks to the original jerseys of Cornell in the modern era. Not caring about the tradition of Cornell hockey is antithetical to most of Cornell, and all collegiate hockey, fandom. Were it not for the history of each storied program, there would be no reason to distinguish ourselves. If one ignores the history of a given college hockey program then every college hockey program is like every other hockey program. It is each program's history and traditions that make each unique. I would argue that Cornell's sweaters, much like those at universities like BU and Michigan, are an essential element of that history.

Look at the sweaters worn by some of the more prestigious and historical programs in collegiate hockey. They all resemble one another in their adherence to simplicity.

I still mourn the changeover from skeptical bear to huggy bear.  Skeptical seems so much more appropriate for an academic institution.

Agree, my wife wanted to make me a stained glass bear, and I insisted on the "skeptical".

No huggy bear!  No black lines!  If you want to try red-lines instead of the black lines, that's worth a shot.

OTOH, I didn't mind when they put skeptical bear on the shoulders in the mid-80's.

Did anyone else think of the WWII British Spitfire or the D-Day gliders when they saw these?

Rosey

Smug bear is not coming back, so if we end up with a logo on the jerseys it's going to be huggy bear. A tiny version of it on the shoulders would be fine. A big one in the middle of the jersey would IMO be hideous.

If you want things that will never happen, why not an outdoor game?

We'll probably play an outdoor game eventually. An outdoor game on Beebe Lake will never happen again. Which is sad because it would be amazing.

Probably, but huggy bear is loathsome -- the graphic artist may have actually intended it as a bad joke.

If they must have the "I Love the 90's" action figure breaking the fourth wall so that they can market a line of kids toys, or whatever they were thinking, we have enough talented people in the Art & Arch school to come up with the synthesis: Huggy Skeptical Bear!

How about Schoellkoph?

I believe I said in another thread that I'd like us to play Harvard (or both games of Harvard/Dartmouth weekend) at Schoellkopf eventually. But playing on Beebe Lake would far cooler.
