Hard to believe this hasn't gotten a mention yet.  Minnesota is stacked; every projected starter is ranked in the top 10.  Based on rankings, Cornell is only favored at three weights with Dake, Bosak and Simaz.  This is a huge early test but could be a coming out party for a couple youngsters.  It will have to be to get the win.

Halftime == tied at 9.

Great come from behind wins by Nevinger and Eifert balance out a pin at 133.  Dake wins 5-0, but no bonus points for the team.

And Cornell locks up the win when Cam Simaz pins the #2 ranked wrestler in the nation! ::rock::

Simaz DOMINATED the third period. That was sick. It seemed like the score went from 2-2 to 9-3 in an instant and then Yohn was on his back and it was over. Fucking awesome.

The heavyweight match was kind of ridiculous. Minnesota had the #7 wrestler (Nelson) and we had a glorified 197 (Bennett) wrestling up. It reminded me of the fight between Paul Newman and George Kennedy in Cool Hand Luke. Bennett didn't have a prayer but he kept trying to take shots. He always ended up underneath Nelson but it was hard not to admire the kid's grit for trying.

Great win.  Dake, Bosak and Simaz were dominant against top 10 ranked wrestlers.  Eifert and Nevinger had gutty come from behind wins against ranked opponents.  Billy George wins a big match against a Minnesota sub (a break for the good guys).  Perrelli and Peppelman lose tight matches to very good opponents, no shame there.  Jace Bennett was undersized but working ward.  Only Stanzione's losing by pin was disappointing (though Coach Koll was getting on Dake for not getting bonus points).

Dake looked a little tired as the match went on.

He always looks tired in the third. Nobody can score on him and he'll still ride hard but he isn't nearly as aggressive on offense. The match commentary on WR makes it sound like the Gopher wasn't even trying to score and just wanted to make sure that he didn't give up bonus points.

Is there any way to watch the Simaz match now?  I was switching between the wrestling and hockey last night and would really like to see his domination.  Thanks

If you have RedCast, just go to the archives.  Else go to the Flowrestling main page ( http://www.flowrestling.org/ ) and find the video.  The Nevinger and Eifert matches are worth seeing again, also.

Ugh. Simaz injury defaults in the Body Bar semifinals. I hope it is nothing.

Someone posted on Wrestling Report that it was the back of Cam's thigh.  Couldn't put weight on it.

Yep. What I mean is "I hope it is a cramp, not a muscle tear."

From Rob Koll's comments on the Minnesota dual:

Cam Simaz brutalized #2 Sonny Yohn, Minnesota, leading by fourteen before pinning him at the 6:46 point. Cam is wrestling at a completely different level than he was last season. Unfortunately Cam suffered a hamstring injury in the semi-finals of the Body Bar and had to default out. I do not know how long he will be sidelined but he was walking around today so I expect he will be back after the Las Vegas Invitational.
