In the Lax NCAA tournament last year (don't think anyone mentioned it, apologies if someone did), Cornell pulled out two upsets just to get to the finals, including a win over number 1 ranked UVA. Up to that point, Virginia had lost just two games all season, both to number 3 ranked Duke. And, not only did we beat them, it was a resounding win (15-6). Yes, we lost a heartbreaker in the finals, but UVA was favored to win that tournament until we defeated them. It wasn't the Biggest Game, but it was definitely a Formidably Sized Game that we won, and I would have put it over beating Syracuse in the final had we come out of the final with a win :`-(.

For the most part, people don't think of Ivy League teams as playing in big games, let alone coming close to winning them. Beating the spread on Kansas by over 15 points is a win for our team's national recognition, even though it won't show up in the W column.

I know all of this. I still want a win in a Big Game. And I want an Oompa Loopma, Daddy, I want it NOW!

There were 10 of us here in Atlanta watching the game on a TV next to the door of the sports bar.  Throughout the last three mintues of the game, several times guys that were about to leave the bar saw the score, made a "holy cow" comment, and decided to join us for the end of the game.

If the semi against UHN counts a big game, the semi against UAV certainly does.  I think if we'd won that game in Buffalo and then lost to Minnesota in the finals, we'd be asking why we didn't win that big game.

Only if we lost it in as painful a fashion as the loss to UHN. Between the goal that got waved off and the miraculous facemask save on Baby's shot, it was more painful than a straight-up loss would have been. It felt like it should have been a win. Not "we would usually beat this team" or even "we outplayed them but lost" but "how did we not win this game"?

On the other hand, the Syracuse game felt like "what did I do to make God hate me this much? Is it the atheism?"

I'm doing fine with God and the atheism.  So His beef is just with you.  ::starwars::

It is now on record that Trotsky was rooting for Syracuse.

Has my vote for the best quip in this Forum's history

Perhaps. But cheer up. It could be worse. She apparently hates people who pester Her even more than She hates atheists. Think Colt McCoy. ::thud::

Didn't want to start another thread...

Was running through the dials and happened on the Kansas-Tennessee game today, just in time to hear about Kansas barely beating "a very good Cornell team."

Nice to hear.

Kansas lost that game to a depleted Tennessee squad.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN US! :`-(

We softened up the Jayhawks with body blows; Tennessee just delivered the knockout punch.
