Dear Friends of the Big Red....

I hope you will join me in supporting Max Seibald for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.  http://www.seniorclassaward.com/athletes/max_seibald/

The Lowe's Senior Class Award recognizes a senior athlete with outstanding achievement in the classroom, on the field of play, with strength of character, who is a contributing member to his or her community.  This prestigious national award represents the finest young men and women in college athletics.  In 2007, the inaugural award for Men's Lacrosse was awarded to Cornellian Matt McMonagle '07, a first team All-American in goal for the Big Red.

This year Max Seibald '09, already a three time All-American midfielder for our Big Red, is a finalist for the award.  One-third of the final selection process is assigned to a fan vote.  Supporters may vote daily on the internet at the link below, or via text by sending the message LAX8 to the phone number 839863 (standard text messaging rates apply).

Max is a two year captain, with a 3.22 grade point average, involved in many community service activities.  His performance on the lacrosse field is second to none – including an incredible 43 straight games with at least one point – a phenomenal achievement from the midfield position.  His many accomplishments both on, and just as importantly off the field of play, as a representative of Cornell may be seen at the link below.  I'm sure you will agree with me that even among the other fine men honored as finalists, Max is a standout!

I hope you will join me and our Big Red lacrosse family in supporting Max by voting daily through the voting period.  Thanks so much for your ongoing support of the Big Red! This message is being sent to friends of all Big Red teams currently signed up to my list serve. Feel free to forward to any others that might support Max's candidacy.

All the best,   Andy

What gives? Max has dropped from 9% of the vote to only 8%. He's currently ranked 7 out of 10 candidates. Surely we can give Max more votes than the guys from Colgate and Hofstra are getting! ::panic::

Speaking of voting, today's Chicago Tribune reports on the selection of a name for a new Frontier League baseball team starting up in Normal, Illinois.  The potential fans were asked to vote.  A hacker voted 600,000 times for The Nutz.  The Coal Bears got 150,000 votes (as in Stephen).  (Normal has a population of about 50,000 and neighboring Bloomington has about 75,000.)  NightHawks got 3,200 votes, but that name was ruled out when it was pointed out that a Night Hawk is an office in The KKK.  That left 540 votes for the Cornbelters.  The solution is to start over with a more secure voting system.

And don't forget to vote for Siebold.  He's number 7 of 10 at the moment!

Off topic but while Stephen Colbert won't be getting Node 3 of the International Space Station named for him (despite winning NASA's online poll as a write-in vote) he will be getting a piece of space station exercise equipment named in his honor: Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT).

As we were gathering at the CU tent for pre-game festivities before the semifinals, word spread that the CLASS award people had brought the trophy over and dropped off some information cards, since it was official that Max was indeed the Senior CLASS award winner for Men's Lacrosse.

They brought max onto the field during halftime of the SU-Duke game to present him with the award.  This gives CU 2 of the 3 lax awards since the honor's inception in 2007.  (McMonagle in 2007).
