It could be, I guess.  Last February's "Everything But Anchovies" (the longest I found before I got bored of clicking "Older Messages") was 120 posts; this is #121.

That is to say, it could be the longest thread ever on THIS board.  I post in a thread on BigSoccer.com that's at 19,436 and counting.   ::twitch::

Alright, so I gotta ask, what's so bad about the Harvard band?  I'm the business manager for Colgate's band, and for the first time in many many years, we are planning on doing the road trip to Harvard and Brown, with plans to stay with the Harvard band.  So tell me, what's in store for us?

One thing that I dont understand about Harvard's band though - they're not even playing at the hockey game against us!  I was told by their director that it was a busy weekend for them, so they gave them Valentine's Day off.  What's up with that??  I think bands should be at ALL home hockey games regardless of whether its a busy schedule or not.  And especially if there's a visiting band there!

Lowell '99

Jeff, you've answered your own question about the Harvard band. :-)

This isn't about bands, this is about the time that Marty Bair took me to the Silver diner, just after getting over his fear of driving on highways, and let a watress spill water all over me.

Marty's reading but not responding?  That's the Marty I know: too scared to say anything, ever, in public, but in person, he's a raging ball of anger.

I hope you remember that you stole intellectual property from ABC news, Marty, because I certainly remember, you thief.

Actually, those youngsters had their eye on Testa, not me.  But based on the old pictures from the drumline webpage, we look very similar to one another, so maybe they liked me, too...and the word on the street is that even Godfrey has caught the eye of a younger woman in band...

Amazing.

126  comments and more to come.

Marty is one of the best people I have ever know.  I highly suggest you lay off, and not make things personal.

oh come on

Clearly the Baby is good friends with the Marty.  If you only had a brain. .see you.. er.. today!

1. This probably is the Longest Thread Ever, and at least it's funny.

2. I used to go up to Hamilton for the games with a Colgate friend, and practically had to defend myself with a baseball bat until the bandies were notified that I was a "good " Cornellian and thus permitted to live.  Bandies should stick to yelling at other bandies -- we civilians don't care.

3. The Colgate-Cornell band rivalry got Extremely Stupid at Lake Placid and interfered with everybody else's enjoyment of the game.  Nothing like putting yourselves center stage during a *playoff* game, even if it was a meaningless consy.  Both sides were equally at fault for delusions of importance.  Hopefully nobody thinks that was their Glorious Moment -- more like their alltime low.

4. It's no more an insult to say "Cornell's football team sucks" than  "Ithaca's weather sucks."  We know, there's nothing we can do about it, and it's not likely to get better.

Extremely Stupid

still waiting for the factual data that watching the consy. game was more fun than playing with the bands.. I don't just mean Greg saying "well, me, and the guy next to me, and.. well EVERYBODY".. nobody was trying to make themselves more important than the game.. nobody cheered "winning band".. I thought you civilians didnt care?::rolleyes::

not that you are right or wrong, but i need some more evidence before i actually listen to being "at fault" for an "alltime low"

Check your delusions of importance, greg

That game was a low point in a lot of respects, not the least of which being that it was Mike Noeth's swan song.  An excerpt from an account I wrote at the time:
Quote...Between the foul mood of the regulars, the eagerness of the backups to
hit someone, and Noeth, things got pretty ugly, including three 5x3s
in the first half of the game.

As the game got out of hand, the focus shifted to the stands, and let
me just say the Colgate band really really really really really really
really...
The next word is left as an exercise to the reader. ;-)

Although I have to say the biggest disappointment of that game was that Doug Stienstra never got his 100th point, even when Schafer pulled the goalie trailing 4-0 to try and help him get it.

Yeah, consolation games blow, that one in particular, and we (the pepband) isn't one of those things of sucktitude that immediately comes to mind, for me

Factual?  Um, gee, I just voiced an opinion.  But I guess those are verboten unless they fall under your sheltered idea of how you appear to others.

And I suppose it didn't matter to you that it was the only game I can remember at which members of the Cornell section (NOT including me) were booing their own band and telling them to cool it.  or that the alums (admittedly, around me, since they were the ones I could hear) were muttering"what a disgrace" about your performance.

But  then again no, no you're right -- the game and the fans don't matter.  Just one more sophomoric intra-bandy cheer is why we all made the trip.  ::rolleyes::

colgate fan

You know what the problem is with all this arguing?

WE KNOW CORNELL IS GOING TO HAVE THE LAST LAUGH ANYWAY!!! THEY ARE GOING TO DESTROY US GUYS...LETS FACE THE FACTS!  ALL IM HOPING IS THAT THEY INITIATE THE MERCY RULE AFTER CORNELL GOES UP ON US 10-0.

See you at Starr.
