Picture #28 is pretty awesome and looks a bit lucky for Scrivens. The pictures also further confirm the fact that vertical stripes don't belong anywhere on hockey uniforms, and that the Niagara silver pants were hideous.

A shot that bounces up off the goalie's chest and is captured floating in air below the crossbar appears to be headed into the net, since your eye assumes you're seeing the path of the shot, not the path after it hits Scrivens. Same thing happens if you capture the goalie turning aside a shot; sometimes it appears that it's about to get in an open net.

But, yeah, it gives you pause.

Maybe the silver pants look good with a blue jersey on top.

Actually I think he was talking about the save he made with his forearm.

Correct.

Anyone know why the huggy bear logo isn't at center ice anymore?

Because it sucked?

I actually talked to Dave Nulle about the huggy bear logo.  If I recall correctly, they did try to get it on there but had problems getting the paint to freeze on.

It still sucks as a logo though.  I'm sure most of you will agree that a simple "C" at center ice would be the most pleasing.  Other possible alternatives, like the university seal or "CORNELL" in block lettering or some kind of Lynah Rink logo (which I don't think even exists), don't seem to fit as well.  In any case, I have no problem with our unadorned ice.

The C would do nicely, thanks.

It still sucks as a logo though. [/quote]It looks a lot like something an AD's daughter, wife, girlfriend, or mistress would draw on a cocktail napkin.  Presumably, when the budding artiste moves on, so will the cartoon.

I'm not usually the one to cry foul at pithy gendered remarks like this, but blaming huggy bear on someone who must obviously be a female of some sort is just cruel. ::flipc::

(Personally, I would bet money that the athletics logo was designed by some independent contractor for some unthinkable sum.  That's how these things go.)

CowbellGuy

It was, in fact, designed by a big name logo artist who is responsible for, IIRC, the Penn State athletics logo refresh as well as some other recent high-profile logos. And it very much did cost a great deal of money. This is all from fuzzy memory, but it most certainly is not something someone's wife drew on a napkin. It also largely came about because the University owns the rights to the leaning bear logo and every time Athletics used it on something, they had to get permission, so they just had their own logos made.
