The memo called.  It said, "we won."

RPI and Yale now into period 6 of their game.

"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

OK well they sure lacked intensity for a playoff game against a vastly inferior opponent.  These guys are dreaming if they think they are going to just flick the 'on switch' for intensity next weekend.  It was tied going into the third period tonight and they scored on a gift powerplay in the third period.  They played well in the third period and probably deserved to win but just because they won doesn't mean they were as sharp as they could be.

Wow, Dekanich got pulled twice in Colgate's loss.

Jesus, you're a ball of negativity.  What do you get out of watching Cornell hockey?  It certainly doesn't seem like you take any pleasure in it.  Sure, I can see being upset or critical once in a while, but it seems that ALL YOU DO is criticize and complain.  We all know this isn't the 02-03 or 04-05 team.  Try to take some joy in the moments when they do succeed, instead of constantly bitching and moaning.
Officiating was absolutely brutal in favor of Cornell.  Dartmouth got robbed over and over again throughout the game and Gaudet was certainly justified for freaking out.  Still can't get over that Brendan Nash continuous hook and slash on the Dartmouth breakaway in the second period that went uncalled.  Should have been a penalty shot.
I am glad to see someone say this before I got a chance to.  The most obviously terrible calls were the no-call on the penalty shot and the trip that led to the GWG.  That trip was entirely Greening's fault.  The Dartmouth player was knocked down while grinding in the corner, Greening turned, skated through his legs, and fell.  Garbage.

I love comments like this.  No interest at all in commenting on any of the points.  I have no problem if you disagree with the points I made about the game but calling me negative and questioning what I get out of the team is totally pointless.  I thought we're discussing the game here, not my feelings.  I don't just go to games with pompoms.

This is ridiculous.  Reading Ari's posts last week and last night reminds me why we miss his (regular) presence on ELF this year.  The postgame threads have been sadly lacking in serious analysis all season long (who played well and who didn't, which lines worked, etc), as mostly we get treated to clever one-liners and trips down memory lane.  So they eke out a win at home against a weak Dartmouth team and we're supposed to abandon all critical analysis?

Ari's point last week is right on: Schafer, defensively-minded to the core, is not using his skill players effectively.  It showed in spades against Harvard, as the fourth line logged huge minutes against a Crimson team that exhibited strikingly little firepower. The same was true last night. Do Winchester and Burton get more even-strength minutes in big games than some of their teammates?  Do Ovechkin and Backstrom?  Of course they do.   But not Nash and Greening.

Attendance last night is listed as 4022. This number doesn't account for all the gaps in the student sections, nor for some good-sized gaps on the townie side (I thought those tickets were in high demand?). And, of course, half of Section 0 was empty.

As Ari said, it definitely was not a playoff atmosphere, between the team's lackluster play and fan indifference.

It was a dull, ugly game, but a win is a win. I think we'll take it tonight.

I know alot of people bought tickets but didnt get to the game because of the weather.. it was brutal outside of town.

evilnaturedrobot

the weather has certainly been worse on other weekends this winter than last night, the attendance confused me too.

Last night was one of the lightest attendances of the season, confused the hell out of me.

And regardless of how justified he may have been (and I agree that the Nash slash then hook on the breakaway was one of the worst non-calls that i've ever seen),gaudet has to show more restraint.  You can't abuse a ref for 2 minutes straight in front of 4000 people (listed, I'd put the actuall attendance in the 3500 range) and expect to not get a bench minor.  Many refs would have given it too him sooner.  He was out of line.

However, his temper tantrum was completely hilarious to watch and I very much hope he throws another one tonight =).

Well, I don't know about brutal. We drove down from Syracuse, snow on 81 and rain the closer we got to Ithaca. I've certainly had a lot worse weather. I think this happens most years; many people don't plan the playoffs and don't buy their tickets with their season tickets. Then they have other plans or just don't care enough, especially in a "down year".

I agree.   We drove our usual 30 miles to get to the game.  Last night was nothing exceptionally bad.   After all, this is early-March in upstate NY.   What do people expect?   Skipping the game was not an option that was even considered in my household!!

When I witness these magic moments, I always recall the tantrum that Toot Cahoon threw during one of his visits to Lynah with Princeton.   It was followed by "Toot Needs A Hug" chant.   That was priceless.  And, I wish that type of humor would find its way back into the Lynah Faithful arsenal.   Gaudet clearly needed a hug!!  =)    That's good clean fun to which the most grumpiest of ushers could not object.

well, those of us in section A did respond with an "anger management" chant, but I agree that "toot needs a hug" is far funnier (in retrospect I think "deep breaths" might have been a good choice.)"  I actually had a conversation with a housemate after last night's game about possible Gaudet taunts for tonight.  I think the faithful need to get to the root of his anger problem by engaging in some public psychoanalysis.  Perhaps Mr. Gaudet was not hugged enough as a child?  I think these issues should be explored tonight at Lynah Skating Rink.
