The rumor is that it is testicular cancer. A Boston radio station reported as such last night. Kessel's agent said he underwent surgery today for something "cancer-related" but did not confirm whether it was testicular or not.

First Lester for the Sox, and now Kessel for the B's...I guess Dirty Water is right.

Lester's recovery has gone well so far, I wish the same for Phil.

ESPN radio was saying that he was going into surgery for testicular cancer. One of my fraternity brothers missed a semester or so for that, but was fortunately recovered well. As unpleasant as it is, I think most people get better as long as it hasn't spread like it did with Lance Armstrong.

Too bad. At 19, the guy barely had a chance to try them out. Hope he's in for permanent remission.

Bad things happen to Boston athletes. More than other towns? Just a few:
Tony Conigliaro (beaning)
Len Bias (unfamiliarity with cocaine dosages)
Phil Kessel (cancer)

I have a cousin who had testicular cancer, and was told he couldn't have children as a result of the treatment. He married a woman with a daughter from her first marriage. Now they have two. ::banana:: And he's been fine for twenty years.

Not sure if I'm interpeting your post correctly, but are you assuming that he lost both of them? Seemingly there's no news out there indicating that. I don't want to speculate on Phil's condition, just wishing him the best, but I thought that often testicular cancer patients lose a single testicle.

I was just watching the pregame for the Bruin's game tonight. Kessel's doctor declared the surgery successful with the cancer cured, and Kessel was apparently at the press conference with him. The announcers even said he may be back within a couple of weeks after noticing the lump only two weeks ago. The doctor said they will continue to monitor Kessel, and if they do find something it is still early enough to fix it.

No mention if it was a one or two loss, but my guess would be one. He only said it was "embryonic testicular cancer".
