That seems to be a trend of recent years...

"That damn bell at Clarkson." -Ken Dryden in reference to his hatred for the Clarkson Bell.

Precisely.  Clarkson didn't show up to play the ECAC Quarterfinals in 2004.  In fact, neither did Cornell.  I certainly don't remember a series taking place.

I've been entirely unimpressed with clarkson. Every time I've seen them play here it's the same undisciplined nonsense. I wish we didn't play into it as much as we do.

Note*
The point of this statement is that I don't anticipate any different this season.

Well of course not, that was the year that the ECAC had a full-season strike.

I think SHagwell was talking about that on the College Hockey Talk show that got linked here a while ago (the one with the interviews from ECAC Media Day).  He said, for reasons that still escape me, that they wanted to have teams from outside come to the tournament as well.  But considering that there are 6 ECAC teams plus Army, Niagara, Canisius, and RIT in New York, you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to have four NY teams in the Governor's Cup.

The game winning goal for RIP was scored by the son of the 1975 Cornell Captain, Dave Peace.

http://www.rpiathletics.com/roster.asp?playerid=330&sport=6

His son, Dan, is a junior who has had very little playing time over the past two years.  He suited up last night for the first time this year and seemed to be all over the ice.  He was almost hooking but not quite in a way that made the RIP crowd wince due to the unbelievable number of minors called in the game.  The water (or maybe the watering holes) in Albany didn't sit well with Feola who called 26 minors and thereby frustrated most spectators.

Near the end of the first period some old fart who appeared to be a bald Cornell Alum yelled "We need more penalties" in mock disgust.  But Feola got the last laugh and by the middle of the second period the cat calls asking for his referee credentials were more numerous than any cheers directed at the teams.  At the end of the game there was a consensus that he had won an award, but due to my distast for 7 letter words I am not at liberty to announce it here.

The crowd was sparse though pumped by the mandatory inclusion of this off campus tournament's tickets in the season ticket package.  These along with the first round ECAC tickets have boosted the price of full season tix to a whopping $200.  The lady who sold me my section O tickets for RIP's December trip to Lynah was a bit surprised by the $18 price.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."
