Rumors of a new NHL deal

The sides are meeting in Buffalo. Take it with a grain of salt, but ESPN just had a report of:

$45 million cap
no link to possibly shrinking revenues
same cap for each team

It'd be a face saver for both sides. The owners would get their cap, the players would get the link removed. Of course, since the NHL's offer has changed pretty much from $38 million linked cap to $38.5 million linked cap, in 6 months, I have a hard time seeing them giving up $7 million and the link. But if the owners are desperate enough to keep their season ticket deposits, and realize how much a lost season could kill their revenue, then maybe.

Source?   On the Beanpot 'cast they announced the season would be cancelled officially tomorrow.  Not that they know anything more than we do.

ESPN 2's broadcast of AHL All Star Game.  They are not announcing cancelation until Wednesday now.

Yup, that was my source too.

Sportsnet and Tsn both reporting no progress.  Please just cancel the season already.

To little too late it seems, but this gives me hope that they can save next season, and maybe even the draft:

Players agreed to a cap, suggested $52 million, with lower luxury tax thresholds. Owners agreed not to link to revenues, but insisted on a cap not more than $40 million

That's significant concessions from each side. Next season will likely be played.
