Albany Parking

This has been a knotty enough problem in the past to deserve its own PSA thread.

In past ECACs, they have set up auxiliary parking across the river with a shuttle bus.  We did it once and happened to be there early enough that we weren't screwed, but for those cutting it close it really isn't a good option.

There is a parking garage near the Pepsi that we used last year (I don't have the street address -- somebody (Age?  Anne?) will remember.

The parking under the Egg is, IIRC, permit to government employees only, at least for Friday.

Repeating my PSA from the other thread:

If you decide to go out to Jillians with everyone else on Saturday night and you're parked in the parking garage that's about a block from the Pepsi, you better move your car.  The garage won't be open all night, or really, even more than about 45 min after the game ends.  And it's not open on Sundays.  And you'll be dependant on the awesomeness of fellow Faithful (or, I guess, a taxi, but where's the fun in that?) to make it through the weekend.

Pay attention to the garage closing times!

The dim recesses of my memory have vomitted up the recollection of 24-hour parking under octapus-like strands of elevated highway, well down the hill from the Pepsi.  It's a lot like the rumble scene from "West Side Story," without the orange gel, so maybe I'm just sliding into senility.

We always head south on Pearl Street, turn left into a side street, and park there reasonably close to Pearl Street.  It's a few blocks walk to the Pepsi.

I've never had any problem getting street parking if you show up early - i.e come downtown to eat before the games or something, either on S Pearl St itself or on the little central thoroughfare (State St), where once the side spots fill up, everyone parks in the middle.

If that fails, there's plenty of little lots scattered around the Pepsi Arena area, including the official one. Just mind the close times, as Liz has so kindly repeatedly warned. Although...

So that lot should be opening back up for the River Rats game on Sunday, worst case scenario, right?

Parking under the Egg is not for government employees only.  There are three levels (P1, P2, P3), and different levels have different degrees of access.  If you drive through the U turn thing to enter the garage, you will find at least one or two levels that are open.

There's also a large garage with event parking right next to the Arena. That's where we parked last year. It's on the same street as the restaurant where the Cornell Club had the between-semis dinner last year.

Let me echo this strongly.

I headed to Jillians after Saturday's game last year, and got back to the garage about 45 minutes after the game ended, and I was quite literally the last person out of the garage: they lowered the portcullis and locked it right after I left.  As a result, it will be street parking for me this year.

You used "portcullis" in a sentence.  Wow.  Just wow.

What kind of prices do the garages around Pepsi charge? Do you think I could find on-street parking around 6:30?

The option of driving across the river and parking and taking the shuttle bus has changed some this year. Formerly no charge, parking will now cost $5. The shuttle bus continues to be free, will leave every 10 or 15 minutes. Shuttle will continue to run until one hour past the end of the game each night.

As for Jillian's--two years ago the post-victory party there was awesome. Last year they would not let team members who were underage in. Even with their parents. Even when Coach intervened. The staff at Jillian's were totally obnoxious about it and people were pretty angry. We ended up back in the Crowne Plaza for the celebration, although some of the guys already inside Jillian's weren't aware what was going on and stayed there, some opted to go party privately, tho most ended up at the hotel bar/restaurant...(which had, like 2 people staffing that night and were totally overrun...) It was more scattered than before but a fine time nonetheless.

To be fair, there were actually cops at the door watching the actions of the gate keepers.

It really felt like the door to a dungeon was closing behind me.  I do carry bolt cutters with me, though, so if I had to get out, I could have...

Really? I was at the door for about half an hour with players and parents and I never saw any cops nor did any speak to the parents who were trying to intervene...guess it would explain, though. Cops or not, the Jillian's staff were jerks about how they treated us, left a bad feeling. I wouldn't anticipate that they'd be the go-to place this year....

I hate to bring this thread back on topic ;), but I thought these may be useful:
