Quote from: chimpfood on March 23, 2026, 08:05:08 PMI hated this matchup at first but the more I look at the stats I think we have a chance. Sucks to be the away team but they really don't stand out in any aspect of the game. They have a good goalie but he's short (hopefully years of practice on Shane should help us with that). We're certainly not the favorites but I would expect this one to be close.

They don't seem to be as formidable or inevitable as they were in the earlier part of this decade. Maybe I'm wrong. They have losses to Lindenwood, Anchorage, and ASU. They've pretty much even with WMU and UND in that league (which is still very very good). The best thing they have mentally is that they've gotten to the mountaintop before.

Every team has losses to shitty teams, I think. WMU and UND are also top five teams in the country lol.

Notably though, their best two players - by a LONG shot - are dmen, Pohlkamp and Buckberger. My suspicion is you gotta figure out how to neutralize those two, and if you do, you'll do well.

The goalie sitch is also fun. They were starting their other freshman for much of the year and then switched to this one...

wasn't a switch - Quentin Miller got hurt. Hicks came on in relief and played 55 minutes and won the game. Has played every game since.
Ah, must have tuned out the selection show at that point. I thought they switched to Hicks bc Miller wasn't giving results.

That goalie is 12-0-1 with a .960 save percentage playing nothing but the top competition in the country. so I would get excited at your own peril. He's tremendous. And Denver has the best D-pair in the country by a mile.
Yeah the goalie is a baller, that's what I said. The top D pair is exactly what scares me most. We never really face any intimidating offensive defensemen in the ECAC and it feels like we've been getting torn up by them in the NCAA tourney, like Cole Hutson last year.

they better!!! i WILL figure out how the fuck to get to vegas in mid april and that's a threat.

Still going no matter what. Hotel and flights booked. Then-three-year-old attending his first national title game. Time with good friends we haven't seen since Cornell's last hockey game in Vegas immediately pre-COVID. Maybe a little poker (dss28 and me, not Isaac). If Cornell's actually playing, that'll be the cherry on the icing on the cake on the silver platter.

Unfortunately I have this little thing called "law school" that, as much as I shirk doing any actual work there, I still need to be at... plus my bank account doesn't have THAT much money in it...

But hell yeah! Sounds like a lot of fun - I hope Isaac has a great time.

The are 12-0-1 in their last 13 games in one of the hardest conferences in the country

Maybe when Isaac's in kindergarten.  8)

Honestly, with revision total knee replacement surgery now rescheduled for April 24 I may have a little time on my hands afterward to wax peripatetic.

This certainly tops my <looks at legal pad> zero research that I've done, so I'm officially activating that "maybe I'm wrong" clause.

If they are at the top of the nation in defense, then I don't give us much of a chance at all -  our offense shrinks when facing a merely competent defense.

I think Cornell is still leading the nation in actual defensive stats. Pohlkamp and Buckberger are insanely good offensive dmen.

I've got Cornell over Dartmouth in the final in Vegas. It'll never happen, but if it does I get to win a contest and see 90% of college hockey fans livid.

If you're going to win, win big!

The progress tracker is nice.

12% of entrants picked Cornell > Denver.  47% Dartmouth > Wisconsin.  61% Quinnipiac > Providence.
4% picked Cornell to come out of Loveland.  10% Dartmouth out of Worcester.  12% Quinnipiac out of Sioux Falls.

It looks like I am the only person so far to pick Cornell over Dartmouth.
