As the calendar moves to February next week, I was wondering if Penney and or Wallace should redshirt to hold on to a year of eligibility. Feel terrible for Penney being a senior and missing so much time.

I don't either of them is going to move on with hockey, so wouldn't they get the degree and jet?

"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

If he's the captain I think he is, he's more interested in helping his team win in Lake Placid than "saving" a year of eligibility.

When the NCAA makes the 5 yr rule change it wont matter anyway.

Is Penney eligible to redshirt? I don't see why Wallace wouldn't though. What happened to him, anyway?

"Why stop at five?" said a Random guy in Hamden.

NCAA doesnt want to go back to the dark ages I guess.

the 5 yr no RS rule will make things easier to understand hopefully

Some guys don't want to pay for a fifth year at Cornell.

Can you even red shirt at an Ivy League school?  Wasn't that why that star lacrosse player transferred out when he had missed a season?  I may have the details messed up.

Pretty sure redshirting is allowed. Isn't that how Rob Pannell got an extra year? He was in one of my classes his last year but I believe he normally would've graduated the year before

chimpfood

The Ivy League does not allow redshirts and I don't think they ever have. Google confirms this.

Wasn't the timing of Pannell's injury something where he was able to unenroll from classes to preserve his eligibility? There were Cornell athletes who unenrolled after the Ivies decided not to broadly grant extra Covid eligibility beyond that one senior clsss.

I'm pretty sure that's the deal.  The Ivies do allow red-shirting for medical reasons under certain circumstances (Vinnie Auger got a red-shirt season a zillion years ago) but part of the red-shirting is that you have to unenroll from classes, otherwise you lose those two semesters of eligibility.
If you lead a good life, go to Sunday school and church, and say your prayers every night, when you die, you'll go to LYNAH!

And with that invocation, Penney is back tonight "in a limited capacity."
