if we are going to compete with the big national programs we need to do more than celebrate losses in the NCAA regionals. teams like nodal and Minny and bc and Denver are making the frozen four consistently.  talking about how close we got doesn't cut it anymore.

Quote from: Jeff Hopkins '82St. Cloud beats Denver 4-2 and Bemidji ties Mankato.

We stay in 3rd by 0.003 over Mankato with Denver 5th.

Cornell is fortunate that Denver and Notre Dame lost. Mankato tie also gave Cornell a little breathing room. All things considered, the lost to Union wasn't too bad.

and a win over union would have flipped the RPI comparison with Notre dame and placed us in solid second chasing st cloud. instead we are barely hanging on to a top-4 position. I don't need to remind you all how poorly Cornell has played in the NCAAs with the exception of the 02-03 run to the frozen four.  we need to do the best we can to get the best seed and the best geographic and opponent draw we can.  so you bring your A-game every night and challenge other teams to beat you.  we aren't saving galadja like he's some trick play cooked up by boise state for a bowl game.  you can bet union is watching tape of galadja's games.  barring extenuating circumstances, you don't bench the best goaltender in the country to reward a senior in an away game at that, when you are chasing the championship

I don't get you guys. galadja wins games. you need to put the best possible team on the ice every night to win.  there are no throwaway games when you are playing for the national championship.  we have the number 1 goaltender in the country and we played our backup who hasn't seen ice time for 2 months and gave up 4 goals so far tonight

the reffing was bad, but it wasn't what did us in. if you don't score goals, you don't win. it's not like the game was 4-3 and we can say, yeah, if those ghost penalties weren't called, we woulda won.  on top of the ghost calls, we took a bunch of correctly-called, needless penalties.

i don't know what you guys are talking about. we looked terrible saturday.  you're just not going to win a game when you take that many penalties, let up 2 power play goals, and don't ever score on your own power plays.  clarkson thoroughly outworked us, and kielly was barely tested, save for the beautiful breakaway shot (angello or fiegl?) in the 2nd that dinged off the post.  yes, the reffing was horrible.  absolute ghost calls.  two of those calls led to power plays that resulted in goals.  but we had no goals at all, and barely any quality shots.  our breakout was terrible we weren't able to sustain any pressure or consistent flow offensively.

btw maybe we should start all our games late, unannounced. the "townie" section was near-packed by faceoff, but the student sections didn't fill up until the second period

Quote from: TrotskyGalajda starts.  I can't recall the last goaltender to start in the first game of his freshman season.  Maybe D'Alessio?

Think we'd expect a goalie platoon until one differentiates himself?  Coach has done that several times the last few seasons.

Quote from: Scersk '97So, the stripes on the home jerseys...

It wasn't obvious in person in the rink, but the single stripe along the bottom is a little higher than it should be. And there's the common problem (these days) about the color being a bit too "cherry" for my taste.

Why is there something subtly wrong with the jerseys almost every season recently?

I recall reading that Cornell has severed its relationship with Nike to provide jerseys, following a student protest on Nike's human rights conditions for workers.  From the exhibition pictures, looks like we're back to using Bauer.

Quote from: Beeeej...and yet there's been no announcement of Red Hot Hockey (or Frozen Apple), it's not on Cornell's schedule or BU's schedule, and it's not on MSG's schedule. Tickets have been available as early as February some years, but here we are without even any news.

anyone have any more information on whether the MSG game will continue this year and, if so, if BU remains the opponent?

Quote from: Jim HylaNot to give the ticket office more work, but if you call, you can sort of pick your seats. For example seats on the aisle or high up.

yeah, you could request to sit next to jamie

the cornell tix are now up via this link:

jim is correct; they're section 122.  they'll overnight them to you (not expected to even receive them in ithaca til tues) or hold them at will-call in manchester.  $80 for presumably both days of games
