Anyone trying to find a place in New York City? I'm happy to make a few calls if there are suggestions of places to contact.

...nevermind, just saw there will be a viewing at Village Pourhouse.

Quote from: WillEBSo I called a bar called Feile which is on 33rd bw 6&7, right near MSG.* they said that they would have no problem putting the game on one of their TVs if someone asks. There wouldn't be sound, it's not really a private setting, but just an idea.

*this was a self-interested move. I'm going to the Ranger game, so I'll probably miss the first period.

Hmm, I was hoping to be able to hear the announcers as well. Is there any interest if I try to set something up in Midtown area?

Quote from: A-ronAnyone have ideas for NYC? I remember watching Cornell basketball at a three floor bar in Murray Hill. Any thoughts on a place where we could have a small room in the back of a bar?

I think you're thinking of Tonic (411 Third Avenue, 212-683-7090).  They get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so you might have trouble grabbing a TV.  Not a bad idea to call, though.

As for me, my afternoon meeting just got canceled, so my backup plan of watching the Union game on ESPN3 will no longer be necessary.  9-hour viewing party at my house.*

*by invitation only

Ah yes, Tonic...that place is big. I'm wondering if there's a smaller bar somewhere that people might want to meet up and yell at the television together. Any suggestions for places that have been Cornell friendly in the past?

I do remember that announcement followed by the players then gesturing towards the fans and beckoning them towards the ice. Other than a post ECAC vistory celebration at Jillian's in Albany after an OT win vs. Hahvahd there really isn't a chance for the team to directly interact with the fans so close to the game...pretty amazing experience.

So do the players not do that anymore? It would be ashame if that stopped just because of one less-than-stellar season. I hope it's a result of some policy change or liability issue and not a gap in occurences.

Was it an official policy to stop allowing the students on the ice or was it never an official thing to begin with and it just happened a few years in a row? One of my favorite memories was running on the ice in 2003 and talking to all the players after the game and then singing the alma mater with fans and players intermingled.

At what point did the team stop inviting the fans on the ice to celebrate after making it to Placid/Albany/AC? I remember the students used to pour over the glass at the end of the game until they changed the glass around 2000. After that we came in through the zamboni doors until at least 2003. Was it a policy change because of safety concerns?

I ate at Triumph Brewing Company with my family before the game today...really good and their beer sampler was great!

I know where I'll be eating when Cornell comes to Princeton next year...

I am pretty sure it was Grady who did the call for the Feb, 2002 game vs. Yale when Cornell broke a 2-2 tie with 14 seconds left in the game.  I remember that by the time I finally stopped celebrating I was two rows down and many seats over from where I had started.  I listened to the radio high light later that night of the goal and it was something along the lines of, "Paolini holds, shot, HE SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!  SAM PAOLINI SCORES...AND THERE'S PANDEMONIUM IN THE STANDS AND PANDEMONIUM ON THE CORNELL BENCH!"  I must have replayed that clip 100 times that night.

You guys know a lot more about hockey than I do considering I started following this team (and hockey) in 2000 so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about but here's my opinion:  Seeing all of the success under Schafer is fantastic.  The problem is that Schafer is becoming a victim of his own successes.  By keeping this team at the top of ECAC and getting them into the tournament with such frequency it's no longer a tremendous a achievment for him but par for the Schafer course.  I'll be honest, just getting into a regional isn't enough for me anymore.  What can I say, Schafer's success has spoiled me.  Telling me it could be much worse doesn't make it any better.

Anyone else end up in 125? I'm still trying to decide if I should go for these or wait and see if Cornell has enough tickets to go around. Also, it won't let me look for tickets in the upper level...

Hockey / Re: Why the hate/dislike of Cornell?

Amen. It's sports and it's a cheer we do after every win...probably not the nicest thing to do when it's the final game for the opposing team but it's just excited fans yelling and cheering. I guess that next time we as fans want to win with class we should make sure to all collectively remove our top hats and take a moment of silence for the losing team while readjusting our bow ties and polishing our monocles with our embroidered handkerchiefs. Perhaps a few taps of our strolling canes on the ground in recognition of a job well done by the other team...
