Hockey / Re: Where are our Alumni Playing Now
November 24, 2017, 06:42:36 PM
I've got two more additions:

Joe Deven is playing with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL)

John McCarron is playing with the Florida Everblades (ECHL)

Deven is actually the Stingrays captain.

Hockey / Cornell/Princeton - Scott Garrow Interview
November 09, 2012, 01:14:48 PM
Former Cornell Assistant coach Scott Garrow (Now Princeton's Asst. Coach) will be on Between the Lines today at 4:30pm to discuss tonight's Cornell/Princeton game. You can listen live on 1160 AM in Ithaca and online at 1160espn.com, or you can listen to the podcast after the show here.

For those who don't know, Nick Arujau, a 3x NYS Champion formerly of American University is transferring to Cornell and will be eligible to compete for the Big Red as soon as next weekend's dual against Iowa State. He left American after last year and has been wrestling with FLWC and taking classes at TC3. As a top-notch 133-pounder, he'll fit into Cornell's lineup nicely. He has the talent to be an All-American, and Nik Pena (who has been wrestling at 133 to this point) is one of the weaker points in the Cornell lineup. Pena is highly touted, but still young as a true freshman. He'll develop into a very strong wrestler, but in the meantime Arujau should help Cornell significantly in their quest for a National Title.

If you're interested in hearing why he left American, why he chose Cornell, and how quickly he'll be able to help the Big Red, he's going to be a guest on Between the Lines on 1160 ESPN in Ithaca tomorrow afternoon at 4. Click here to listen online. If you missed it, click here to access the podcast.

Hockey / Cornell Hockey Interviews
October 28, 2011, 09:10:17 AM
An interview with Keir Ross will air on 1160 ESPN - Ithaca's "Between the Lines" today sometime between 4 and 5pm. If you're outside the Ithaca area, you can listen online at 1160espn.com or you can wait for the podcast on that same website sometime after the show airs.

It looks like they'll be talking with Schafer every Wednesday on the show and with a different player every Friday. Just in case you're not getting your full hockey fix on the weekends...

Hockey / Topher Scott Interview
July 18, 2011, 12:31:26 PM
Topher Scott is going to appear on ESPN Radio in Ithaca on Tuesday - the same station that spoke with Mike Schafer a few weeks ago. Their local show "Between the Lines" is on from 4-5pm. You can listen live online here or you can probably catch it as a podcast on their website - www.1160espn.com - sometime after it airs, as they seem to podcast all of their interviews.

If you can't get down to Moresco Field at Ithaca High School for the remainder of the lacrosse season, all the games will be broadcast live on 1160espn.com starting with tonight's regular season finale against rival Corning. Tonight is internet only - the rest should be on local radio - 1160am - as well.

Adam Fiore, AJ's younger brother and a Junior at IHS, leads the team with 52 points (34-18) and as of recently, was #4 in Section IV in points per game (3.8). This team is really good, and very under-rated. A legit state contender, despite being unranked right now.

In case anyone else has the hockey itch already...

Incoming Cornell goaltender Andy Iles will be attending the US National Junior Team Evaluation Camp from July 30-August 8 in Lake Placid. Andy is a local product, and the Big Red's highly-touted netminder of the future. If you'd like to see him play, Fasthockey.com will be carrying games from August 3-7 at 4pm each day. The games are pay-per-view, but I think you'll be able to watch some of the practice sessions for free.

Or you can travel up to Lake Placid to watch him live - depending on how advanced your hockey withdrawal has become...

Wait, can somebody explain to me how Scrivens is not one of the 3 best goalies in the East?

Hockey / Sucks Weekend
February 29, 2008, 01:21:48 PM
I have been doing this for years...but I think we need to drop that school's name from our vocabularies and simply go with "Sucks". This is sucks weekend. The sucks game is on Saturday. You should understand by now. That school's name should be used only when explaining the idea of "sucks" to an "outsider". And by outsider, I simply mean a normal person who is not rabid about a hockey team. Let's Go Red!

Hockey / Re: Sustained "Let's Go Red"
February 29, 2008, 01:12:10 PM

For the past 10 years (at least), the faithful have been speeding up every cheer which makes it unsustainable.
FYP
I think I'm one of the people who is most angry about the whole "speeding up" thing. They can't do "shorthanded" or "frustrated" properly anymore because they do it too fast and don't use the proper, dare I say traditional, tonality. It's frus-traaaaaa-ted and short-haaaaan-ded. Not just frustrated and shorthanded. Don't get me started.

Hockey / Sustained "Let's Go Red"
February 28, 2008, 03:43:06 PM
This is a long shot, but after weeks of somewhat unenthused cheering, I think we need a sustained "Let's Go Red" on Saturday night. Ideally, if we could get enough people on board, we could keep it going the whole game, breaking only for other cheers. It might get a little rough on the voice, but it could be worth it. Imagine the atmosphere that would create. We'd begin at puck drop, and keep it going at all times during play. Maybe Ari (or anybody else) can get it going every time they drop the puck? Post if you're in. If enough people do it, others will catch on.

Hockey / Re: Beanpot 2/11
February 11, 2008, 11:09:01 PM
It's a regular season tourney...so a 5 minute OT and then a shootout, had it stayed tied. And it would have counted "officially" as a tie, had BC not won in OT. Unless the Beanpot is different than other tourneys, which someone watching would know (did they put 20 on the clock?). Also, Harvard Sucks.

Hockey / Re: Colgate 1 at Cornell 2 - Postgame
February 02, 2008, 11:06:24 AM
Greening was great last weekend too. He scored both goals against Yale, and was the reason for both goals against Gate. He did make a poor play in the Yale game, taking the body on the Yale forward, missing him, and allowing a 2-on-1 that tied the game, but since that one error he has played nearly flawless hockey. He has an excellent upside, with great size and hands, and decent speed. If he can continue to be a force, look for the Red to cement a bye-week for the ECACHL playoffs, and possibly to win in Albany.

It had to happen one of these games. A few years ago, at Starr, their chant of choice was simply "f&%$ You Cor-Nell". Figured that could get an entire section kicked out of Lynah. And NO, I don't think Colgate students are smart enough not to do something that idiotic.
