Re: Cornell vs. Syracuse Lax - 14 years ago
YankeeLobo Wow, blew another lead to Cuse late in the game? What is it with these players? Do they just choke when they realize they're beating a team that they shouldn't be? The late game meltdowns are clearly psychological. I mean, they couldn't even clear the ball late in the NC game last year, all they had to do was clear the freaking ball and the game was OVER. I know the answer -- tooby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Syracuse Lax - 14 years ago
I thought time had expired, but it was close. A few quick thoughts: 1. Best Cornell goaltending since McMonagle at his best. 2. Syracuse has freakish stick skills -- it's like they had glue in those things 3. In the final minute when we had offensive possession I was concerned when Pannell did not have the ball, and my fears were realized. 4. Syracuse's ride is amazing, and we were rby scoop85 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio scoop85 Al DeFlorio Scoop, did you notice whom Lau replaced on the first midfield? Al, I did not catch who that was. Tambroni is apparently still trying to find the "right" combination at midfield. What did you make of Martinez playing the entire game?I guess Tambroni was giving him a shot at the job. One save and eight goals allowed in the second half is not a confby scoop85 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Pannell scored three goals (including the tying and winning) and had five assists. Considering he has fewer weapons than last season and that the opposition is keying on him, his production is even that much more impressive.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Pannell with :11 left, and CU wins 13-12. Nice to see some guts. We gotta tighten up the D and goaltending.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Two goals since the middle of the first quarter isn't going to win many games. I've only watched the third quarter, but we had a few good chances but couldn't finish (an all-too familiar theme)by scoop85 - Other Sports

7-7, and CU takes a 1 Min penalty in final minute of 3rd Now 8-7 Harvard just like that. Maybe time to put Fiore in for Martinez.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Final Four semis - 14 years ago
It was mentioned during the Wisconsin game that the Badgers have something like two number one and three number two draft picks (or vice-versa) among their defensive corps. Food for thought when discussing our ability to compete with the very top programs.by scoop85 - Hockey

ugarte Yawn. Wisconsin 8, RIT 1 (Final) BC 3, Miami 0 (Mid 2d) Yeah, two brutal games. I thought BC-Miami would be entertaining, but no luck with thatby scoop85 - Hockey

Al DeFlorio adamw TowerroadThe point is that there are those that claim that Schafer is doing an outstanding job operating under the Ivy constraints and that there is no other system that could replicate these results. So I wanted to point out that Yale has been doing very well of late playing a very different style of hockey. They seem to be able to attract the sort of player that others claim aby scoop85 - Hockey

phillysportsfan Siena's coach McCaffery is off to Iowa, I could see Donahue going to Siena Don't see it. If he goes anywhere, it's to a team in a power conferenceby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse @ Penn - 14 years ago
Didn't think it deserved a separate thread, but here's a tidbit on an incoming lax recruit from a Laxpower board: San Ramon Valley High over Saint Ignatius 10-8. The score was 10-5 beginning of the 4th, and SRV held on to beat SI first time since 2005. Cornell bound Ross Rudow clearly was the dominant player, this game, outplaying Virginia bound Rob Emery. Rudow had probably 3 goals and 2by scoop85 - Other Sports

phillysportsfan “I’m incredibly excited about how well Cornell has done in the NCAA,” Cornell alum Sandy Weill told Business Week. “The players and the coach have handled themselves very well and it shows that you can go to incredible heights with teamwork.” Weil graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Cornell in 1955. Jordan 04 Kyle Rose Jordan 04The tournament format it pretty simple. Lose, go home. Win, play on. It's pretty low to try and detract from the team's accomplishments and championship because another team wasn't even good enough to get to the final four. Being "low" or not is entirely irrelevant to my analysis of what happened. Being true or not is more to the point. Do you seriously contby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
adamw I can't even believe this conversation exists. Every other ECAC team would kill for Cornell's success, as would about 30 other NCAA teams. It's not the '60s .... be happy with what you have. And when you call Cornell "just a bunch of of big, slow guys" then it shows you really just aren't paying attention. Schafer squeezes every ounce out of the program. Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
dbilmes The New York Times today says that Donahue is being vetted for the St. John's position. The St. Johns AD had said they were looking for a guy who coached at a power conference and had success at the highest levels. While I think Donahue would be a good hire for any program, he certainly doesn't meet those criteria. But I guess St. Johns is getting a dose of reality that the school isby scoop85 - Other Sports
