Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
Too bad -- Moulson's goal called just after the buzzerby scoop85 - Hockey

Leggio looks too damn composedby scoop85 - Hockey

Bad icing on Clarkson -- maybe it opens the windowby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
We're getting some excellent opportunities, but Clarkson is doing a solid job keeping us from getting grade A chances. And, Leggio continues to look strong. Clarkson's playing the classic "rope a dope" style -- hoping to capitalize on a mistake (and we've certainly made enough of those).by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
Bizarre and inexplicable period. We controlled the play territorily, but Leggio was excellent and Clarkson capitalized on the few chances they had. While we've clearly been the stronger team and you would have to like our chances based on the overall play, OT is such a crapshoot.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
Ugh. We were doing such a great job keeping the puck down low in Clarkson end, then one of our forwards (I don't recall who) pulled a cardinal sin with a late lead and passed back out of the corner, leading to the tying score.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
We've had too many chances not to capitalize ... we can't let them hang around here.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Davenport returns... are we saying bye to Mckee? - 18 years ago
Not that I have any inside information (I don't), but I find it hard to imagine Davenport returning if McKee were staying. As with all things, we will see how this plays out.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Who do we want to face? - 18 years ago
I saw nothing about Union that scares me, EXCEPT for Mayotte -- but even he probably could steal only one game, at best. Union's offense was simply the least imposing I have seen this year. Clarkson and to a lesser extent, RPI, give me more concern. If we make it to Albany, I think that if we are healthy and can play our "A" game, we will beat any of the other likely opponents. Re: Cornell-Union Post Game Thread - 18 years ago
A few other observations: 1. I thought McKee had few tough chances, but was solid nonetheless. Union's offense is about as week as I have seen this year, especially on the power play. 2. Although the injuries have been troubling, nice to see the Freshman get a chance to play, and they did play solidly all evening. 3. We seemed to adjust well on the power play after it was apparent Unby scoop85 - Hockey
Cornell-Union Post Game Thread - 18 years ago
Well-deserved win. Although Union had the edge in shots, Cornell really carried the play. The team was playing on fumes the last few weeks, and now the rest should be critical.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Union 1, start of 3rd - 18 years ago
Union now starting to pinch and emphasize the forecheck, but with no real opportunities to show for it. This is when the inexperience on D is a concern. We need to keep getting the puck deep and keep the strong cycle going.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 1, end of 2nd - 18 years ago
A great start to the period, leading to a PP. We are so due to put one in.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 1, end of 2nd - 18 years ago
So far, I think Pegs has been outstanding, and no one has played poorly (even with his goof leading to the goal, Bitz has played well).by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 1, mid 2nd - 18 years ago
That ending sequence was so typical of the seaon. We were unable to make what seemed to be a pretty easy clear to kill most of the period, but Union kept it in and put on their only sustained power play pressue of the game. A goal there would have been pretty devastating.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 1, mid 2nd - 18 years ago
Now Glover takes a penalty ... maybe a good thingby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 0, mid 2nd - 18 years ago
Just when I'm thinking that Union is really challenging our point men, Bitz makes an awful turnover leading to the shortieby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1, Union 0, early 2nd - 18 years ago
Nice work by Bitz, but no shot on net.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0, Union 0, end of 1st - 18 years ago
We've seem to have had more miscues already this period than in most of the first periodby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0, Union 0, late 1st - 18 years ago
Well, I retract my praise of the announcers, to some extent. NThey're not bad, but praising the "penalty kill" during a 4-on-4 ain't exactly Sam Rosen and John Davidson .by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0, Union 0, 1st - 18 years ago
Onion with a nice forecheck so far, but no serious scoring threats. Also, the announcers on the webcast clearly are pros.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 RPI 2 (3rd period) - 18 years ago
We have so many strong flurries, but our inability to finish is painful to listen to. Now a penalty on Seminoff ... well, at least Lacrosse gets underway tomorrowby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 RPI 2 (2nd period) - 18 years ago
Great puck control on the PP, but very little on net.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 RPI 2 (2nd period) - 18 years ago
You know things are going bad when the only good news is a waived-off goal while down 2-0.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Historic Parity? - 18 years ago
Yeah, but if you look at the entire league, I don't think the bottom teams have ever been so consistently competitive with the top tier teams in a given season. Brown took us to OT twice, we needed a last minute goal to beat Q-Pac on home ice, and Princeton shut us out. The other top teams have had similar results. A look at the other leagues has seen fairly similar scenarios.by scoop85 - Hockey
Historic Parity? - 18 years ago
As the regular season winds to its conclusion, the results seem to confirm (at least to me, anyway) that there is more parity throughout college hockey -- not only in the ECAC -- than I can recall in my 25 years of following Cornell hockey. I have no doubt that on any given night that we can beat anybody, but can just as likely be beaten by virtually anyone else. I don't think I've ever feltby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 SLU 4 (in overtime) - 18 years ago
Well... given the 3-0 deficit on the road to a tough team, as well as all the penalties, I think the headline should read, "Cornell wins, 4-4."by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 SLU 4 (in overtime) - 18 years ago
We gotta start winning these defensive zone faceoffsby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 SLU 4 (3rd period) - 18 years ago
Cornell is clearly carrying the play; if we can just put one home!by scoop85 - Hockey
