Re: 2019 ECAC 1R - 5 years ago
Although neither camera angle is definitive, the video does prove it's offside when you piece together the two angles. But alas, referees are not expected or supposed to be doing this, right?by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF Women: #1 Cornell vs #4 Princeton - 5 years ago
The potential outcomes have narrowed down considerably given the stratification in the pairwise rankings, even before the result of Ohio State-Wisconsin tonight and the championships tomorrow: (assuming NCAA tournament seeding follows pairwise exactly, which it hasn't always in the past for seeds 5-8). Cornell loss to Clarkson: 6th seed at 3. Northeastern Cornell beats Clarkson: ---if B.Cby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF Women: #1 Cornell vs #4 Princeton - 5 years ago
Here is a pairwise calculator. Cornell can only get the 4th spot if they win the ECAC Championship Game (vs. either Colgate or Clarkson) AND win Hockey East.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF Women: #1 Cornell vs #4 Princeton - 5 years ago
Great game, great effort, and great goals in front of the biggest and loudest crowd of the season! On to ECAC Championship Game and NCAA tournament! Edit: reported attendance was just over 1100, but I don’t believe it. Looked and sounded like 1600+by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF Women: #1 Cornell vs #4 Princeton - 5 years ago
Quite a game so far. Cornell had the better of the 3rd period but left themselves exposed a few times when defensemen were caught pinching in the offensive zone. The season likely comes down to this overtime, as a loss might put them outside the NCAAs while a win should seal their tourney bid.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: [WIH] QF v RPI - 5 years ago
Trotsky Real shame we can't fill the rink for the women, for a playoff game. It would help them so much. Any of you ELFers in Ithaca better turn up today at 3 to support the women’s team. Attendance reported for Friday was ~1500 and Saturday was ~1200. Decent numbers but not enough. Women’s hockey has drawn 2000+ a few times for big games in the past. Get Lynah loud and for pete’s sake, don’by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: [WIH] QF v RPI - 5 years ago
Brutal result. Certainly luck favored RPI today, but our playmaking wasn't especially well executed when it mattered most.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: [WIH] QF v RPI - 5 years ago
Game 2 is looking like a carbon copy of Game 1 through 2 periods. RPI up 1-0 despite being outshot 34-6. Some of the strangest Cornell hockey games I've ever seen.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: [WIH] QF v RPI - 5 years ago
scoop85 imafrshmn We've seen time and time again that in the women's collegiate game, a strong goalie can thwart a dominating performance by the other team. One might think that our trouble scoring against RPI yesterday was indicative of a lack of top-class finishing ability, but I beg to differ. I believe O'Neill and Mills are among the nation's best offensive weapons. I also believe Coach Derrby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2018-19 - 5 years ago
Really impressive 4 point weekend for the Red! To my eyes, they've definitely stepped their performances up a notch. Against St. Lawrence, it was a tactical masterclass. They managed to play an aggressive forecheck all game long without conceding too many good chances the other way. Boissonault looked really solid in net, but wasn't called upon especially often thanks to great defending. Againstby imafrshmn - Hockey

Interesting that all this year’s freshman class is American. We’ve been heavily Canadian over Derraugh’s tenure, so not sure what this says about talent and recruiting.by imafrshmn - Hockey
1967 Residential Club fire in the news - 6 years ago
TL;DR: For decades there's been a whole lot of silence about what happened with official investigations on the tragic fire that most considered a probable arson. Police investigators had given up on pursuing the case for lack of conclusive evidence and a lack of a confession. Cornell had effectively swept it under the rug, perhaps to not draw attention to their failed fast-track PhD. progrby imafrshmn - John Spencer Is Dead

Anything can happen in a single-elimination tournament. I thought we played pretty well in an evenly-played game but didn't get the bounces we needed. Better luck next year.by imafrshmn - Hockey

upprdeck but this doesn show what happens if we do lose the next 4. just the likelihood of that are low.. even 2-4 probably keeps us high. This is true. As well, there's reason to believe that the CHN simulations don't really capture the low-probability outcomes as well as they should (which is to say it's all a little bit overconfident). Re: Women's Team 2017-18 - 6 years ago
The women's team has shown that they can dominate play against weaker teams and hang tough with better teams, but they just don't have the depth of scoring to be one of the top tier teams this year. And they don't always score enough to get past teams that they outplay (Harvard yesterday, case in point). There does seem to be a significant drop off in strength after the quartet of Wisconsin, Clarby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: RPI, 2/3/18 - 6 years ago
Swampy Gotta be careful. With Union in the rear-view mirror and Clarkson next Friday, there's a real danger of the team looking ahead and overlooking RPI. It's a potential trap game. Naww are you kiddin me? There's No Way We Could Possibly Lose Tonight!by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Clarkson game 2/9 - broadcast? - 6 years ago
Trotsky Chris H82 Does anyone know if the Clarkson game on Feb 9 will be broadcast on anything beyond WHCU radio? I'm assuming that since it's a non-Ivy game, ILN won't show it? Thinking about getting a watch party together (kind of a long trip from Seattle to Potsdam), but gotta make sure we can see it before I set up the group invite!Clarkson was a pioneer in streaming their games. Re: Polls 2017-18 - 6 years ago
I predict Cornell will be up to 3rd this week, coming very close to 2nd. Even as we're in the midst of one of our best seasons in recent memory, I think the team is still flying under the radar because our offense is so balanced that none of our guys show up near the top of national scoring statistics. Our defensive solidity is almost taken for granted. In contrast to some of Schafer's best teamsby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2017-18 - 6 years ago
Very hard fought 2-1 victory tonight against a very solid [#3, 14-2-0 coming in] Colgate team--probably the best team Colgate's ever had. We won despite being outshot 35-16, and despite giving away a point-blank chance to tie with 3.5 seconds left. We were tactically smart against a 'Gate side that's quite physical in defense, poised to make the most of offensive opportunities while mostly keepinby imafrshmn - Hockey

Jim Hyla Dafatone ugarte lol arthur mintz doesn't like the fish throwing? trotsky, the curmudgeon throne was never yours. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of spending all game terrified that we're gonna get a delay of game penalty. But I don't want to ditch the fish. I'm in favor of ditching it. I think it has lost its usefulness and it's too likely to harm us with a penalty due to a dumb fan.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2017-18 - 6 years ago
There hasn’t been much coverage of past weekend’s contests against #1-ranked and undefeated Wisconsin (3-1 and 2-1 losses, respectively). From what I observed, the two losses were more competitive than I expected. Our team defense has come a long way to solidity, fewer mistakes and turnovers, and limiting shots on goal. Offensively, it was still very difficult to generate chances, except on theby imafrshmn - Hockey

A few moments come to mind for me... Both 2OT game winners vs Clarkson in 2006 ECAC QFs (Sawada’s, Moulson’s GWGs) Michael Kennedy’s GWG vs Harvard 11/10/06 with 1:33 remaining Lauriane Rougeau’s NCAA QF GWG vs B.U. with 0:10 left in 3OT to win 8-7 in a game loaded with Olympians.
