Re: TSN Ranks Riley Nash #33 for the upcoming draft - 16 years ago
DILLIGAFevilnaturedrobot[What is so disturbing about the recent two defections is that neither Milo or Romano was offered a pro contract, but instead left to join teams on the junior level. It's hard to blame a kid when he inks a deal with an NHL team, but when they leave to join other youth teams it's a vote of no confidence in the Cornell program. Signing with a OHL team is hardly "joby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: TSN Ranks Riley Nash #33 for the upcoming draft - 16 years ago
DILLIGAFIf he goes that high the pressure for him to play major junior instead of cornell will be huge. Not nessisarily, it all comes down to what the team that draft's him thinks of the Cornell program. Toews played two years and so will Okposo, and both are huge prospects (drafted #3 and #6 overall last year.) What is so disturbing about the recent two defections is that neither Milo or Rby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey

Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
calgARI '07You can throw as many stats as you want but it doesn't change what I and most others SAW when they watched him play. He sucked defensively and made terrible decisions with the puck. For some reason, Schafer and the other coaches let him get away with his stickhandling around his own net for the entire season and did not hold him responsible for not buying into team defense. Josh '99evilnaturedrobotI watched atleast 65 Ranger games last year and probably 120 over the last two years. I'm not telling you what I've heard, I'm tell you what I've seen. You're welcome to your own opinion on Malik (would you happen to be an NHL GM looking to take him off the Ranger's hands?), but I've had enough of him.Fair enough. Josh '99evilnaturedrobotdre1614What i find odd about people saying he is horrible defensively, and is a liability on the ice. Well why did he have the second best +/- on the team with a +9 behind only Jared Seminoff? Because +/- is the most misleading stat in all off sports. +/- is a unit stat, not an induvidual stat. Marek Malik has lead the Rangers (and at times the NHL) in +/-...has anyby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
dre1614Still avoiding... If he was such a bad checker, and defender, how in the hell did he have such a good plus/minus? You know he switched lines a few times too. Once again, I think that +/- is a useless stat. It judges the unit, not the individual, and is highly dependant on match ups. How many times was Tony matched up against an opponent's top O-line? There are countless examplesby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
For my money, Romano was far and away the worst defensive foward on the team last year. Not only did he add nothing as a checker, but he probably gave up the puck in his own zone, and in the neutral zone, more than any other foward. Again, ditch the +/-, it's a useless stat! It tells you nothing about the induvidual.by evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
Not necessarily, how many times did Tony circle around with the puck for thirty seconds only to give it up at the redline? Even if your teammates cover up for you, it doesn't mean that you haven’t hurt the team by wasting a possession. I've been a Romano supporter all year, so I'm not about to bash him now that he's gone. But there is no denying his deficiencies: mainly that he hogged the puby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey

Don't those other men's sports have scholarship limits? I can't imagine that Syracuse hasn't already maxed out it's scholarships in money sports like football and basketball.by evilnaturedrobot - Other Sports
Re: Syracuse to add hockey - 16 years ago
I don't see why Syracuse would need to drop Men's swimming and add a Women's hockey team to balence the football team. I would assume that the football scholarships where already offset by other Women's sports, it's not as if Syracuse hasn't been playing football for some time now.by evilnaturedrobot - Other Sports
Re: Syracuse to add hockey - 16 years ago
Well it's a step in the right direction. My knowledge of Title IX isn't that extensive, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't this pave the way for a mens team (atleast on Title IX)?by evilnaturedrobot - Other Sports

Re: NCAA Lax Semis - Cornell 3 @ Duke 7 (halftime) - 16 years ago
I'm a Lacrosse neophyte, so take my observations with a grain of salt, but this just doesn't look like the team that we've been watching all year. And I don't meen that in a talent sense, because until the last minute, they didn't look overmatched. But they're not pushing the pace and the ride isn't there. It's as if Cornell is more concerned with keeping the ball out of Duke's sticks then theby evilnaturedrobot - Other Sports
Re: UMass? - 16 years ago
he said BU, UNH and NoDak. I never mentioned NoDak as part of next season (as I said before:they wouldn't come to Lynah for just 1 game, and vice versa.) We already know that BU is on the docket for next year, and ithacat says UNH looks promising for next year too (I can't open the link so I have no idea what it says.)by evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: UMass? - 16 years ago
hmm, that link didn't work for me. If this is true, then all of a sudden next year's schedule looks pretty strong with BU, UNH, UMass and possibly Maine, as out of conferance opponents. Though this is somewhat undercut by a weeker than usual everblades field.by evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: UMass? - 16 years ago
Josh '99According to UMass's 07-08 schedule announcement, they're coming to Lynah on Friday 11/30 (the weekend after the BU game at MSG). The (updated, I believe) first post in this thread has us playing Mercyhurst that night and the next, but Mercyhurst's schedule announcement has them playing a home-and-home with Canisius that weekend. So I guess my three questions are... A) Is this accurby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: Swami's seeding prediction - 17 years ago
schoaffOf course it might be better to go into the tournament the #2 seed with a chip on their shoulders than the #1 with a target on their backs. Exactly. And with the bottom 8 teams not being seeded, we'll probably get Sienna regardless of whether we're #1 or #2.by evilnaturedrobot - Other Sports

Re: [s]Two[/s] Three more recruits - good but how good? - 17 years ago
DILLIGAFThere is no doubt that Cornell faces recruiting challenges that the national powerhouses do not and that in prior years Schafer has gotten to the NCAA tourney, but what explains this season? A very good, if not exceptionally talented freshman class presumably with veteran leadership and the team underachieved and often brought bad hockey to a new level. how did this team underachieve?by evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
Re: ...Milo... - 17 years ago
hockeyfan10on the d/l that milo was cut Well that would explain why there are currently 16 (as apposed to the usual 15) forwards slated for next year. At the same time, it doesn't make alot of sense. As has been mention earlier in the thread, he's currently playing baseball, so this can't be about an academic or conduct infraction. And if it's about him playing baseball, well schafer knewby evilnaturedrobot - Hockey

I'm going to share Ari's skepticism regarding Nicholls. 18 points? He better be lights out defensively. Does look like he has an edge, assuming those 107 PIMs arn't all mindless hooking and holding penalties. does anyone know anything about these two other than what the stats tell us?by evilnaturedrobot - Hockey
