Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
I didn't really want to pile on, but I saw 25-2 again, and while the Big Red was damn good in 2019-20, they were 23-2-4. Which even now that we're keeping track of OT wins and OT losses, and this is worth 55% of that even though points-wise it's worth 67% -- well, it's still not quite the same as 25-2...by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Ivy Standings - 2 years ago
It's sorted by ECAC winning %. Or maybe overall winning %. Because... that makes sense.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Ivy Standings - 2 years ago
So far at least it looks like they haven't updated to the NCAA point system, at least in terms of calculating winning percentages. Thanks to the OT win over Brown, Cornell has 8 (not 9) of a possible 12 points in the Ivies, so their percentage should be 0.667 rather than 0.750.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell Evacuation Alert - 2 years ago
Not related to Sunday's activities, but police issued a shelter-in-place order for most of Cayuga Heights starting at 2 PM Tuesday, and Cornell issued one for North Campus, after a gunfire incident in front of a bowling alley downtown. Suspects fled in a car and crashed in Cayuga Heights behind the elementary school. One suspect still at large. Here's moreby Give My Regards - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Polls - Nov. 1 Cornell 15th - 2 years ago
billhoward Not clear if "input" means they actually vote. I strongly suspect that a lot of them don't. I suspect "input" means that someone, not necessarily the coach, but someone who is (or may not be) affiliated with the team and who has time for such things sends the vote in. Years ago, Cornell football got a first-place vote in a Div. I-AA poll. They were undefeatedby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2021-22 - 2 years ago
Trotsky I assume from context they meant to put RPI 7th, but who knows? I will give the writer the benefit of the doubt and suggest that he is predicting the on-ice results will put RPI 7th, but some improprieties will be uncovered forcing the Engineers to forfeit a few games and placing them 9th. Re: 2021-22 Men's Schedule - 2 years ago
Weder Are Ivies allowed to play the extra games you get as credit for visiting the Alaska schools? The last I heard, and this was several years ago, requests to exceed the Ivies' self-imposed limit have to be voted on by the Ivies. At one point Yale wanted to schedule two games in Alaska, beyond the limit of 29, and had to get approval from the league/Ivies to do so (they were successful).by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky French Rage Apparently Maryland Heights is in Missouri. It was a "wide open town" back when, so perhaps there will be an apres hockey scene with gambling, gangsters, and whores. I mean if you like that sort of thing. Meh, sounds like Allentown.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky Beeeej TrotskyI thought Auger (or somebody around then) did that? Fine. Unfuck him. Didn't Auger get an injury redshirt exception? I looked back through TBRW and there has never been a "Gr" class for a Cornell player. Coulda sworn. Rashomon. I have yet to hear a rational explanation of why the Ivy League does this. Beeeej Trotsky scoop85 Trotsky ugarte Trotsky scoop85 ACM New arrivals. And one departure. Looks like a good move for Cairns. He never fully hit his stride at Cornell, but got his degree and now goes to another top-flight program where perhaps he’ll find his game.Disappointing. My guess is he knows UMD is going to endanger their players but not sure if we are (spoiler: we are). Welp. Fuby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Season's Over 20-21 (Hopefully) - 3 years ago
Maybe I'm just missing it, but I haven't seen anything in this decision that relates to athletics. It wouldn't be all that surprising if a disproportionate percentage of the "40%" of on-campus students happened to be athletes. That said, the Ivy League is supposed to be making some sort of announcement on July 8th.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Season's Over - 4 years ago
ACM Trotsky I suspect there are some Eastern European sports we would not want to watch. Bear-baiting and baby cage wrestling come to mind. My people have many fine attributes but we are not aesthetically subtle. You are not big fan of buzkashi? Like hockey, only with goat, not puck. N-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-hby Give My Regards - Hockey

Jim Hyla And, by the way, I laugh, rather than get mad, at some jerk who talks about Dryden's undefeated season. Watching those seasons was a lot more fun than getting mad at the uninformed. This has probably been brought up before, but just to be an Dryden did have an undefeated season. His team didn't.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Schafer Shares Penrose Award - 4 years ago
Moderately fun fact: This is only the second time there has been a tie for the Spencer Penrose award. The other time, in 1966, Amo Bessone of Michigan State and Len Ceglarski of Clarkson shared the award. Those two teams met in the NCAA championship game that year.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
nshapiro So can Kaldis still set the games played record? Assuming nothing else gets cancelled, the Big Red has a maximum of 6 games left (2 LP, 4 NCAA). So yes.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Bracketology for 2020 NCAAs - 4 years ago
Trotsky Bemidji. What could go wrong? I'm intrigued that Bemidji goaltender Matt Dalton took the L for that game and Cornell's Ben Scrivens won it, although for the teams it was the other way around.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Awards 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Don't know if this has been pointed out elsewhere, but in addition to being Cornell's first-ever four-time All-Ivy first-team selection, Yanni has played in every game of his Cornell career -- 133 so far. Jeremy Downs holds the record for games played in a Cornell career with 138. I fear the woofing gods, so somebody else can do the math.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2020 ECAC Permutations - 4 years ago
And now the way-too-long version: And once again, it’s the ECAC Playoff Permutations! This year, the league has more or less separated itself into three tiers. We know who the top two teams are going to be, as well as the bottom two. The rest is the usual unholy mess. Going into the final weekend of league play, here's a breakdown of where each team in the ECAC could finish. As alby Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky UAA, UAF and UAH are the Leftovers. I'll see if I can dig this up, but I think I read somewhere that UAH back in November served notice that they intend to withdraw from (what's left of) the WCHA. IIRC they were looking to join Atlantic Hockey.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2020-02-14: Cornell 5 Union 2 - 4 years ago
Cornell's win over Union means that the Big Red has defeated each of their league opponents at least once this season. This may not sound like a big deal, but it's the first time Cornell has been able to do that since 2004-05.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky BearLoverThis forum could be far more stats-heavy than it is. There are all sorts of advanced hockey statistics that don't ever make it onto this forum but which give more color to a game and to a team than "shots" and "goals." DRINK DEEP TO THE DREGS!!!
