Re: Funky Playoff Format - 22 years ago
The 11-team playoff format for the CCHA lasted only one year (1995), and it came about when Kent State suddenly folded its hockey team. For a few years prior to this, the CCHA had the same 12-team format they do now (top 6 host the first round, 3-6 and 4-5 play-in games, etc.), with Alaska-Fairbanks an affiliate and their seeding determined by who chose to play them, as already mentioned. Re: All-Ivy Teams - 22 years ago
Saw the Ivy League stats page yesterday, and they're wrong. (I know, big surprise) It looks like they left out the second Yale game when they put together Lenny's stats. He should have 298:08 for minutes played, 8 goals allowed, and a GAA of 1.61. His save percentage in Ivy games was 0.914, so he should be on that list just behind Lombard. I Emailed the Ivy site; we'll see if anything happenby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Clarkson fight clip @ eLynah - 22 years ago
Butt-ending, or even a butt-end "gesture" with no contact made, gets an automatic DQ according to the rulebook. The hell with it, I can't get the stupid link to work. See if you're interested in the actual wording.by Give My Regards - Hockey

McCutcheon's teams lined up in order also. I don't recall whether they did during the Reycroft era.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell VS Clarkson , Saturday Feb 23rd - 22 years ago
Joining the discussion a little late, and maybe I should leave the Willie Mitchell thing alone... I recall watching this game on tape, which clearly showed the Mitchell shot hitting the corner of the glass above the bench, then catching Coach Schafer in the head on the rebound. IIRC, Willie was just flailing around during a stoppage in play and shot the puck in disgust over something or other -by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: joe nieuwendyk - 22 years ago
Easily the best Cornell forward I have ever seen, dating back to my first game in December of '82. Joe actually did have some talent around him during his first two years. I believe his linemates both years were Duanne Moeser and Peter Natyshak, and along with Joe they were in the 40-50 point range each year. (Duanne went on to play hockey in Europe for years -- he may still be playing) We reby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: New TBRW Feature: Complete Scoring List - 22 years ago
Greg, that's exactly how it's done, and it does make sense if your aim is not to award a team a higher seed in a three-way tie than they would have gotten in a two-way tie. For example, suppose A and B are tied and have split their two games, but A has a better record against the top 5 than B does. Obviously, A gets the higher seed. But now, supposing C is also tied with A and B, having sweptby Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
The Ivy Title definitely meant something when it was the Ivy division of the ECAC Conference (Late 70's until the Hockey East departure). It meant one of the top 3 seeds in the ECAC tournament that had 8 participants from a 17 team league. The winner of the ECAC's Ivy region wasn't necessarily the Ivy League title winner, although I think they differed only once. In the 1980-81 season, Cornellby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Speeding up the game - 22 years ago
In the early '90s, Hockey East gave serious consideration to playing their conference games as two 25-minute periods, so there is sort of a precedent for this kind of thing. Thankfully, saner heads prevailed and the idea was voted down before the start of the season.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: If you could choose... - 22 years ago
I went back and forth on this one for a bit, before realizing: 1. I haven't seen Cornell win the ECAC championship in five years. 2. I have never seen Cornell advance to the NCAA Frozen Four. B it is.by Give My Regards - Hockey

So, in a way, the new format screws Harvard? All of a sudden, I like this new format a lot moreby Give My Regards - Hockey
