Dunc Although, it was parents weekend and Halloween party time I'm sorry, I know I'm old, but since when do parties at Cornell, Halloween or otherwise, get going before 10 PM?by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Ceramic Dalmatians, 2024 - 6 months ago
Will I wonder which poll voter gave Brown their pity 20th-place vote and why. The Bears are already so impressive with their *checks notes* total of zero games played so far this season (not even an exhibition). They're undefeated!by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Coaching carousel 2023 - 9 months ago
billhoward Of the four, Pecknold/Quinnipiac is the only one with an NCAA title. Daniels/Ferris State lost to BC in the 2012 title game. Schafer/Cornell made the Frozen Four in 2003. Colgate coach Don Vaughn had been at Colgate since 1992-93. Gotkin's Mercyhurst teams made the two-team NCAA Div. II tournament in 1993 and 1995, losing to Bemidji both times.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 11 months ago
Iceberg I suppose we can start off this thread with today's announcement of Colgate's new head coach. That leaves Schafer as the longest tenured head coach in the conference I think Schafer is in fact the ECAC's longest tenured head coach. Pecknold was hired at Quinnipiac in 1994, one year before Schafer's tenure began, but Q didn't join the ECAC until 2005.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
coz From the Release One of Vaughan's most impressive achievements was leading the program to the ECAC Hockey tournament on a near-annual basis. In his three decades at the helm, Colgate made 27 appearances in the playoffs and reached the ECAC championship weekend on 14 occasions. Not exactly the most impressive stat. Maybe it's a bit more "impressive", 'cause I think Vaughan got sby Give My Regards - Hockey

andyw2100 Root for them to tie us in number of ECAC titles? Sorry-can't do it. Not only that, it would give Ted Donato his fifth title, tying him with Mike Schafer and Joe Marsh for the most in ECAC history. Not to mention pushing him past Ned Harkness. No. The world is not ready for that.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 1 year ago
I'm more intrigued with StubHub offering Dartmouth hockey tickets as an alternative. I bet those are cheap.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale (2/25/23) - 1 year ago
dbilmes Yale coach Allain started his third-string goalie, Hopkins, last night because he's a senior and it was his last regular season game. His goals against average and save percentage is much worse than either of the goalies ahead of him. Not that it would have necessarily made a difference, but it certainly didn't hurt our chances. That may be why Allain started Hopkins, who's had a totalby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale (2/25/23) - 1 year ago
I was just thinking the announcers weren't really all that horrendous, until the color guy informed us that Mike Schafer was "a great goaltender in his own right". Yep, missed the first reference.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: #13 Cornell at Brown, Feb 24 - 1 year ago
Trotsky Al DeFlorio"A regulation victory for the Big Red would ensure an outright Ivy League title for Cornell, which would be the program's 25th title. With a win in overtime or a shootout, Cornell would share the Ancient Eight title with Harvard." The only problem with that is, the Ivy League apparently does not agree. Re: 2023 ECAC Permutations - 1 year ago
ursusminor How can both Brown and Yale do no better than 11th without help? Shouldn't one be able to get 10th without help? It's because of the top 4 tiebreaker. If Brown and Yale both get two regulation wins, they'll still be tied in the standings. They split head-to-head and would have the same number of league wins, so it goes to record against the top 4 in the league, which would be Quinnby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2023 ECAC Permutations - 1 year ago
It's a little odd, but it's because Colgate loses the tiebreaker with Clarkson and St. Lawrence wins it; thus, if they finish tied with the Knights, the Saints would win the tiebreaker and be seeded fifth, while Colgate in the same situation would be sixth. (A three-way tie would put Colgate fourth, St. Lawrence fifth, and Clarkson sixth)by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2023 ECAC Permutations - 1 year ago
And now the long-form version: Once again, it’s the ECAC Playoff Permutations! Quinnipiac has made things a little easier by locking up the top slot, and Harvard and Cornell will finish second and third in some order. Then, as they say on Gilligan’s Island, “and the rest.” Going into the final week of league play, here's a breakdown of where each team in the ECAC could finish. Forby Give My Regards - Hockey
2023 ECAC Permutations - 1 year ago
TL;DR version first: Possible ECAC tournament seedings (the number in parentheses is the best seed the team can get with no help): Quinnipiac 1 (1) Harvard 2-3 (2) Cornell 2-3 (3) Colgate 4-6 (4) St. Lawrence 4-5 (5) Clarkson 5-8 (6) Princeton 6-9 (7) Rennselaer 6-11 (7) Union 6-11 (8) Brownby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Colgate @ Cornell - 1 year ago
BearLover It’s only a matter of time before the refs call a penalty on Cornell for objects being thrown on the ice, or worse, a player gets injured. The Cornell fans have been acting like drunk animals at these games. I don’t have a solution for this issue. Not necessarily a solution, but the refs ought to be enforcing the rule and calling this. Putting your own team on a PK should be a situatby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
RichH I don’t pay close attention to little regional tournaments like this. Was this also a 5-min 3x3 OT w/ shootout format? Or do they play real hockey in Bostontown? 20-minute OT (Harvard scored at 19:59)by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: a look at the standings with 6 to go - 1 year ago
adamw Umm ... since you called my name ... we absolutely do break out a team's "real" record on CHN. In multiple places. Not every single time a record is mentioned - like say in an article - because it's, frankly, a pain in the ass. But on our Standings page, Pairwise, etc... - We most certainly do break it out. Annoyingly so, to some people. I'll admit that this is personalby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
Trotsky ursusminor Trotsky The real solution is for CMU to go D-1 and join the ECAC. Tartans is an awesome nickname and they'd slot in between Cornell, RPI, and Clarkson for an Eng school, and we could kick out Q. Add RIT and kick out Union and now we're talking. Is there any rumor of CMU fielding a team, or did you just pick them? I suppose they could be Princeton's travel partner.None at alby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: RPI vs. Cornell 2/3/23 - 1 year ago
Trotsky I have been trying to remember what happened on Dave Crombeen's "prettiest goal I ever scored" at Houston. IIRC Crombeen was heading off the ice, having been whistled for a delayed penalty. The RPI goaltender (Jopling, I think) was headed off for the extra skater when one of the RPI defensemen passed backward to his linemate to start a play. Only it wasn't his linemate -- itby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
I think Union should go with "Garnet." Turns out in long-ago time, garnets and other red gemstones were called "carbuncles." This seems very appropriate.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Tonight on Skate to Survive: Cornell 4 Quinnipiac 0 - 1 year ago
George64 Shane was nominated for the Hobey Baker the day before yesterday. When I tried to vote for him, I saw that last year’s winner was Minnesota State goalie Dryden McKay. Nothing like putting pressure on your kid from the opening bell - but I guess it paid off. . He could have been named after that town near Ithaca. No, I guess not.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Tonight on Skate to Survive: Cornell vs Quinnipiac - 1 year ago
From TBRW's Top 10 section, tonight's four goals is the largest margin of victory the Big Red has had over a #1-ranked team (dating back to 1983).by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Boston University, Jan. 14, 2023 - GAME TIME IS 4PM - 1 year ago
Because I do stuff like this, I looked up transfers in a old version (2017) of the NCAA Div. I manual. Here's the start of the section on transferring: "14.5 Transfer Regulations. "14.5.1 Residence Requirement—General Principle. A student who transfers (see Bylaw 14.5.2) to a member institution from any collegiate institution is required to complete one full academic year of resideby Give My Regards - Hockey

andyw2100 jtwcornell91If you ask me, nothing was wrong with 5 minutes of 5x5 OT followed by a tie This! I would guess almost everyone here would agree. I do sort of fondly remember ten-minute 5x5 OT followed by a tie (back before cell phones and the web, kids!) but I'll gladly take the five-minute version over what we've got now.by Give My Regards - Hockey
