Re: It was only a matter of time... - 21 years ago
Unlikely, unfortunately this will be the future. With stations being taxed for the songs that they play, I suspect you'll be seeing less and less free radio online. It burns me that I can buy online without paying taxes, but have to pay for programs.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: tix on sale... - 21 years ago
No phone orders will be excepted while people are still in line. Actually, while still not correct, phone orders will be excepted while people are still in line.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: the more things change... - 21 years ago
Although it probably will be a win and a loss, the tourney certainly tried to mess things up by playing a 5 min. OT first. See USCHO story .by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Preseason Polls - Cornell #1 (barely) - 21 years ago
Media poll is up now and we are far ahead of Harvard. Not that that means anything.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Schafer featured on ECAC media day - 21 years ago
A few "interesting" quotes from the coach: "To me the move to Albany is a step in the direction of growing as a league. Our goal is to put 13,000 to 14,000 fans in this rink and I believe that will make our league healthier " seth said "How do you feel about CU's deal with RealAudio?" Coach Schafer said "I'm not really aware of the deal with Real Audio.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Early College Hockey Tourney - 21 years ago
If anyone can't wait for the start of the season, and would like to see some early action, the HSBC Arena in Buffalo is hosting the Xerox College Hockey Showcase on Oct. 11-12. The teams, and Fri. matchups, are Canisius vs. North Dakota, and Niagara vs. Michigan. Consy and championship Sat.. My family is probably going, it should be fun and my wife and I, also, graduated from Michigan. I'm goinby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Ticket Line "disassembles" - 21 years ago
Greg, you are so right. Back in the "good OLD days" we never had any U help. You got in line and the first few there started a list, and gave the rules for line maintenance till the U openned up the ticket office. Eventually, the U started coming early and taking our list for line maintenance, but it was still student driven. I think all you need are some aggressive, but reasonable stuby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: YES! I'm actually going to see a game this year! - 21 years ago
We're going, and meeting friends from Cleveland. So that's at least 5 of us.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 21 years ago
I'll bet on Rochester. Far enough away from Worcester and close to that other Western NY city, who is hosting the Frozen Four.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: ECAC Reportedly Considering Moving Tournament to Albany - 21 years ago
I suspect that it's because Albany has wanted these types of games, such as the NCAA's, but Hartford has never shown the same interest. And after reading Al's link about the NCAA tourney, I'm more convinced than ever, Hartford just doesn't want it.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Gartman - 21 years ago
I'm just reading my May issue of "The Wolverine" and this came up. Montoya (apparently their new goalie) will be joined by 20-year-old Chris Gartman, who went 27-15-3 with a 3.02 goals-against average during this year's regular season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League. The 5-10, 165-pound Gartman spent two years at Cornell before returning to junior hockby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Next year's schedule - 21 years ago
Red-White is @ 7, Sat. Oct. 19 Ohio State is listed as away. Western Michigan games are listed @ 7. Still don't know Ex. opp. or Colgate home/away. Just in case anyone has overlooked it, as I did at first, the away north country trip is a Sat/Sun, not Fri/Sat. I hope that all of you are CHA members and got your own newsletter with the schedule printed.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Next year's schedule - 21 years ago
Sorry, away. Meaning, sorry I didn't put it up, not that you might get to see it. In fact with a little luck, I can be in Cleveland that weekend, and drive down. That is, unless Cleveland is a cesspool? Actually, since we have membership to the R&R Hall of Fame, we will likely be there.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Next year's schedule - 22 years ago
Cornell Hockey Assoc. newsletter lists the schedule the same with the following exceptions: No Finday on Sat. Nov.2, no game listed at all. Western Michigan Away Fri., Sat. Dec. 6,7 Colgate games as listed, still no decision home vs. away. So I'd say we are pretty certain of 95% of it.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
2003 NCAA Tickets - 22 years ago
This may have been previously posted, but for those who are not on priority, the ticket application must be in by 5/22. Download it here . Good luck.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: ECAC Reportedly Considering Moving Tournament to Albany - 22 years ago
Greg, I have a suggestion. From the "How to win friends and influence people" mode, you might find things alot nicer if you tried to find the good in situations rather than bad-mouthing what you don't like, such as calling Albany a cesspool. It seems clear from your past statements about Syracuse that you are not fond of midsized upstate NY cities. Well that's OK. But you know, some oby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Internet Radio at Risk? - 22 years ago
This is for real. Just check out this link . This is the Detroit station that used to carry Michigan sports. Click on "Listen Live" for their statement on the subject.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: How sweet would this be!! - 22 years ago
I have my hotel reservations for LP, but would be happy to go to Albany. For me not alot of difference, but for my daughter, and I suspect others, Albany would be nicer.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 22 years ago
Since only a tiny handful of really old fogeys are capable of making a 1st-hand-knowledge-based rebuttal to the Brown-is-best claim, it's usually a safe bet to play the "Brown card". Come-on now. Either you should put a smiley face by this, or you really don't understand demographics, or you really mean it. I'll choose the first option, thanks.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Designing a lacrosse-specific PWR - 22 years ago
Congradulations John. Does this mean you've made the big time ?by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 22 years ago
But, for the sake of the Brown's fans, you have to be happy that they kept those records. After all, can any NY Giant fan conceive of Jim Brown's records being transferred to Baltimore?by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Dave Ferguson: C.U. *lax* star?? - 22 years ago
No, can't be. Dave, and twin Doug, as well as Bob and the rest of the gang were recruited by Ned for hockey. They came as frosh with Ned, and me , in '63. Now obviously '61 was before my time. Maybe Al could help us.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: 2002-03 student ticket sales procedure announced - 22 years ago
When the first people get there, they should start their own numbers. Then CU lines them up by those and does what ever nonsense they need to do. It really can work.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: 2002-03 student ticket sales procedure announced - 22 years ago
I like the idea, for students . I don't think it would work for us townies. For one, coming from Syracuse with a family, just getting there can be an accomplishment. I don't remember for sure if it was every year, but as students we had gen. ad. and used to get there at 6 for 8 PM game. And yes it did fill up early. In fact, we had a prof move up the time of a prelim (back when we used to have gby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: 2002-03 student ticket sales procedure announced - 22 years ago
Look, we always used to police ourselves. The first people there start a list, and when a few more get there they set up the rules about when you can leave, when they will have checks, etc.. You need to always have a few of the Lynah Faithful there to check everyone in and hand out the rules and then everyone has to be there at a certain time. You let the U know your rules and get them to be therby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: Recruits and Lynah - 22 years ago
Thanks, I forgot all about that. Which is bad, since I had a reply on the thread.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
Recruits and Lynah - 22 years ago
An interesting article in Thursday's SUN. A couple of quotes: Since the majority of the recruits are from junior hockey leagues, the team can sign recruits to play two seasons from now. With the 2002 recruits already committed, Russell already has two more players committed for the 2003 season. "Lynah is a big selling point. There are better and newer facilities elsewhere in the countryby Jim Hyla - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 22 years ago
I think this just shows how good the Yankee management is. Everyone says it's just their bucks, but at least two other NY teams have proven that bucks alone are not enough. You have to have some smarts behind those bucks, and unfortunately some teams don't have it.by Jim Hyla - Hockey
