Re: general 2010-2011 basketball season thread - 13 years ago
Rita mountainred Buffalo 78 Cornell 66 @ Newman. An astounding 28% shooting night from inside the arc. How is that even possible? This is looking like a lost season for hoops, and if that is the price to pay for last season so be it. There is time out there for Courtney's first batch of recruits next season, but the rebuilding may not start until then. I'm doing some cleaning around my apby Swampy - Other Sports

billhoward That song started badly, like Mariah Carey writhing with something less than ecstacy, something closer to full body diaper rash. It rewards those who stuck it through to the second half when the lyrics diverged from All I Want For Christmas: "They may have killed our Savior / That's not the best behavior / That's okay, he rose again three days later." Trotsky Swampy Trotsky Al DeFlorio Swampy Cornell's had pretty good luck with quarterbacks named "Wood." Wouldn't it be a kick if Sam Wood is somehow related to Gary Wood '64? Given Cornell's glorious football history, albeit in the dark, distant past, Sam could do a lot worse than following in the footsteps of "Cornell's greatest-ever quarterback." George Pfann? Wow. judy Has everybody seen this? It's the Belfast Giants doing Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas". Spotted early on was a #5 Gleed jersey, yup, one of ours. Since I can't put names to faces, I have no idea if Jon Gleed actually appears in the video. Then again, do you think that after Justin Milo transferred to Vermont Mike ever thought of singing this?by Swampy - Hockey

Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 13 years ago
phillysportsfan I dont find it too hard, Donahue has got nothing to do with the hockey team, plus there could be nothing worse that if Donahue went to BC and fell flat on his face, losing his job in a few years when he could have stayed here, I want him to do really well at BC so that he didnt leave here for nothing And so he doesn't return to the Ivy League at some school that just fired its cby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 13 years ago
phillysportsfan BC beats Maryland 79-75 to give Donahue his first ACC win on the road, if they can keep this up they will probably make the NCAA tournament Apparently he has only something like 8 scholarship players because several player recruited by Al Skinner elected to go somewhere else. It usually takes some time to get used to a new coach, but under the circumstances this is an impressiveby Swampy - Other Sports

KeithK Stan Baxter The State of Michigan is a unique place, 1 million people came out for the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup victory parade a few years ago. Detroit is probably the only major market in North America where hockey is the biggest sport, bigger than even the NFL. Hockey would be bigger than the NFL in other places too if there were more teams like the Lions. So should we expect U.by Swampy - Hockey

scoop85 Great experience for him. I hope he gets some action, since Campbell will be the clear #1 Actually, not a bad development for us either. In past years this would have meant losing our #1 goalie for Florida. This year, since Schafer seems to be alternating goalies, both Garman and Iles will get high-level experience (assuming Ilse sees some ice time in the WJC).by Swampy - Hockey

Re: Off topic: Nanaimo, BC - 13 years ago
ithacat Next season (unless something changes), Garman and Birch will be the only former Nanaimo players on the roster. After Garman graduates the lacrosse program will have more Clipper experience (Bremner with 67 games) than the hockey team (Birch with 19 games). Will seem mighty odd. Currently, Nanaimo only has three players committed for next year (one to Sucks), and the Clippers are not atby Swampy - Hockey

CAS I, too, am disappointed with our start to this season. However, let's not forget the success of last year's team . And perhaps what's most encouraging for the future is the outstanding group of recruits headed to Ithaca the next two years. In fact next year's class may be Schafer's best. phillysportsfan I almost feel sorry for Donahue but hell he left here under his own will and got paid On paper, BC should beat any Ivy. From what I recall, they did not lose that many key players from last year. (Nothing like Cornell.) scoop85 Swampy BRP also reports that Stephan Miller was rated B-, which translates to being drafted in rounds 3-4 or thereabouts. This is pretty good since BRP also has two Stephan Millers signed up for 2012.
