Re: Pannell eligibility approved - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla Al DeFlorio Pannell took an incomplete in his "Introduction to Philosophy" course, since he wasn't able to complete the necessary schoolwork while meeting with doctors and rehabbing. He also would have missed the final exam. Give me a break. Pants on fire. Oh, c'mon Jim. All those doctor visits and the rehab must have been much more time-consuming than actually playing iby Swampy - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - thank you, RP - 11 years ago
billhoward If Rob Pannell really does come back next year, that truly is leadership by the captain. He'll be starting adult life two years after most classmates (taking a PG year before Cornell and then the fifth year). Plus the extra semester of tuition at Cornell. Plus a couple of the HS lax parents in our town were all saying to me, "Cornell fifth year? Not a chance. He'll be with hisby Swampy - Other Sports

phillysportsfan So will the league give him another year? By withdrawing does he just forfeit all the credits from this semester? Certainly good news for Big Red fans. I'm sure he, his family, his coaches, the administration, his professors, etc. all worked together to figure out the best way to do this. Let's just hope the NCAA & Ivy League do the right thing. Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 11 years ago
semsox Swampy The BIG issue is the Ivy League. I think the league would be utterly stupid to stand in Pannell's way if he wants to play the extra year. What future athlete would choose an Ivy if Pannell becomes the poster boy for broken dreams due to Ivy rules? It's not as if he was some trumped up "medical" redshirt as a freshman who some coach schemed to have later, when he was biggerby Swampy - Other Sports

Inside Lacrosse says Inside Lacrosse One notable absence among the young group is the No. 1 overall pick, Cornell's Rob Pannell. While the status of his foot injury rehab from earlier in the collegiate season is unclear, Spallina said that Pannell is waiting to hear from the NCAA about possible additional eligibility. Re: Shot clock for college lacrosse - 11 years ago
Johnny 5 Curious. That definitely would speed things up. But, the kids would get at lot less time to breathe. Would it work at the high school level where a team doesn't have an unlimited number of subs available?? Back in the old days, midfielders ran the entire field and played both offense and defense. So teams would typically run 3 or even 4 midfields. Defense and attack could rest whby Swampy - Other Sports

And my younger son played lacrosse at Yale. All good reasons to root for Yale plus: Root for the team that hasn't been to the top lately (ever?). Just keep them away from drained pools. Cop at Lynah I can't remember where I heard it - but it was said that they were looking to have Rob on the field for a few minutes during the Brown game and if he came out of it o.k. then he would be a go for the Princeton game and beyond. semsox ESPN1160 had a podcast with Barry Leonard from this past Tuesday prior to the Syracuse game. Johnny 5 billhoward Any victory over Syracuse is a good one. Great game in goal by Andrew West. Re: Lax vs. Syracuse - 12 years ago
billhoward Cornell Big Red sports story notes this is the third straight time Cornell has held the Orange under 10 goals. More impressive if it had been four straight. Well, last year we beat them 11-6 in their worst loss since 2007. This year we beat them 12-6 in what was also their worst loss since 2007. So according to La Cross' transitivity theorem, Worst Loss Since 07 = (11-6) = 5 = (12-6)by Swampy - Other Sports
