Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky Nipissing. North of North Bay. Ithaca is going to feel like Havana to them. Nice job by everybody putting the schedule predictions up. You basically nailed it. Actually the university is in North Bay. Could be worse. Is there a university in Timmins?by jkahn - Hockey

Sad news - 5 years ago
With sadness I pass along the news that Dan Lodboa passed away on Saturday, May 11. I actually received the news Sunday from a former Cornell teammate of Dan's, but was waiting until the info was public or posted first by Cornell. Dan provided many great memories for Cornellians in my time on the hill.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 18-19 - 5 years ago
coz Trotsky Good. Good. Can't imagine the Rags would trade anything above zero value if they didn't already have an understanding that he would sign. A little surprised it's not a sign-and-trade, but perhaps that introduces complexities they wanted to avoid? I believe if they sign him this now it will automatically burn a year on his ELC and make him eligible for an expansion draft in 2021by jkahn - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Beeeej jkahn Interestingly, Joakim Ryan had only about 4 minutes of ice time in the first three periods last night, probably most of that if not all being in the first period. But, he was out there fairly regularly in overtime, ending with 9:34 played. And he was +1, being on ice for the game winner. I noticed that, too, and second what coz said - but it was great to see himby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Might be a record - 3 goals in 52 seconds - 5 years ago
George64 CUlater 89 CJ Young, from some school in Cambridge/Allston, scored a natural shorthanded hat trick in 49 seconds in 1988. As a freshman, Carlo Ugolini scored 4 goals in 51 seconds. He had 7 goals in Cornell's 20-2 win over the Mount Royal Eagles of Montreal. I was there. On Ugolini's unassisted goal he just won the face-off to himself and skated right toward the goal and scored.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: 2020 and 2021 regional sites announced - 5 years ago
Jim Hyla Marriott booking for FF in Detroit has just opened. Interestingly you can get a room starting from Wednesday 4/8 or Thursday 4/9, but you can't book leaving after Saturday 4/11. So can't yet book Saturday night. I booked the Element Detroit at the Metropolitan. Good rates and walking distance. Jim, the Android app will let you book through Sunday even though the web version only gets youby jkahn - Hockey

Beeeej jkahn jtwcornell91 I really hate the "no distinct kicking motion" rule. And his skate was clearly moving in the direction of the goal, so if that isn't a distinct kicking motion, what is? It clearly wasn't a deflection off the skate. His body was moving in the direction of the goal; presumably, if his skate was moving a little faster than the rest of his body, that would've beby jkahn - Hockey

Re: Cornell - Northeastern - 5 years ago
Al DeFlorio Swampy Trying to understand the “logic” behind how the powers that be assign block seating. As a Cornell fan, I usually try to sit — maybe optimistically — by the blueline of the end we’ll be attacking for two of the three periods. But yesterday, at the Dunk, Cornell block seating (including the band) was at the end Cornell was defending for 2/3 of the game. What explains this?by jkahn - Hockey

Re: ECAC SF Lake Placid: Brown vs. Cornell - 5 years ago
Trotsky CU2007 Any of your pairwise guys know what are chances look like if we lose to Brown?playoffstatus.com gives us a 63% chance of beating Brown and a 93% chance of making the tournament. Assuming we have a 100% chance of making the tournament if we beat Brown, that means (.63 * 1.00) + (.37 * x) = .93, where x is the likelihood of making the tournament if we lose to Brown. Re: 2019-03-02: Cornell 2 Clarkson 2 (ot) - 5 years ago
Dafatone Another game against Clarkson wouldn't be bad, because this tie flipped our comparison with Arizona State (flipping common opponents), and maybe another win against Clarkson would flip it back. However, I'm looking at the pairwise before tonight, and I swear we shouldn't have ever won it in the first place. We were behind in common opponents going into tonight. So, uh, yeah. No, we weby jkahn - Hockey

ursusminor Swampy Trotsky Corey Hoffman played 2 games his freshman year and disappeared. His 4.00 suggests we missed out for whatever reason. I see no listing of him on any current roster at any level. Do you suppose this is where he wound up? Anything is possible, but I wouldn't expect someone from Long Island to end up coaching kids in Edmonton. Could he still be at Cornell but not playiby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 18-19 - 5 years ago
Harvard's loss today knocks down Cornell's adjusted RPI from .5581 to .5549. With Harvard being a 3 time opponent, and also a two time opponent of many of our opponents, they impact our RPI more than our other opponents. Also, their dropping in PWR affects our Quality Win Bonus points.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Incoming Recruits - 5 years ago
Trotsky I like Bear's list. Thanks for doing it! I was not aware of the College Hockey Inc page before and relied on Heisenberg to produce this. We all missed Kempf, so I'm glad Bear took the time to do this. Note that Kempf is our first recruit born after 9/11. He goes by "Hank" and Hank Kempf is a cousin of Stephen Bâby (one generation removed).by jkahn - Hockey

Jim Hyla wakester2468 Is there something in the works regarding a Las Vegas tournament next year? Read my original post. I don't know anything more than it was discussed. I think from the people that I heard it from, it's a go, but you don't know till someone announces it. This coming weekend, 1/4, 1/5 is the 2nd annual Las Vegas tournament. Al DeFlorio Swampy billhoward Ierlan has nothing to offer us for fall semester? Not sure what you mean. Who was the last Cornell athlete to play both hockey and lacrosse? Harry Orr? Does Bob Rule backing up Brian Cropper in 69-70 (but never playing) count? Rule did play. Jim Hyla Scersk '97 BearLoverYates and Rauter are now gone and we had better pray Angello doesn't leave. This vein of speculation is getting unduly thick. Keeping it civil but being as blunt as possible, Angello leaving would be "misguided" on a level beyond even Shane Hynes. It would be "shocking" beyond belief. Nevermind that he has only one more year left in his degrby jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2018-19 Schedule - 6 years ago
KenP Michigan State was 12-22-2 this year and #35 in Pairwise. Let's hope they are a stronger team next year. With that said.. not too strong... a pair of wins would REALLY help our common-opponent comparisons with Big-10 teams. Common opponent copmparisons with the other Big-10 won't matter if we don't play the others, since with no Head-to-Head there'd only be two criteria, RPI and Common-oppby jkahn - Hockey
