Re: Wrestling 20-21 - 3 years ago
Kyle Dake defeats 3 time NCAA champion Jason Nolf 11-0 in 42 seconds to advance to a best of 3 matches tomorrow vs. Jordan Burroughs. Vito Arajau advanced winning 6-5 to tomorrow's final as well. Yianni Diakomihalis lost his semi 4-4 based upon tiebreaking criteria. Gabe Dean went down 4-0 to David Taylor.by jkahn - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Final Video - 3 years ago
scoop85 For anyone who was there, what was the feeling like going into the 3rd period tied? And I have to imagine going down two men up by just one had people on edge. I was much more tense during the Wisconsin semi. Wayne Thomas was stopping everything and we were down 1-0 going into the 3rd. Even after we got the two goals, those last 8-9 minutes seemed to take forever. As great as Lodboby jkahn - Hockey

A fair amount of the 1970 NCAA Final can be found here: Link provided thanks to Garth Ryan, who emailed it to me after I sent him the link to the Sun article.by jkahn - Hockey

George64 The Rancor Ed Ambis from Ambis industries- who made skate sharpeners and turned my skates into lethal razors? How did I not know this!? Ed Ambis ‘72 was my dentist when I lived in Ithaca following retirement. Ambis Industries, now closed, was owned and operated by his late brother Philip. Talking about hockey with Ed made my root canal more bearable. Philip played hockey at Elmira Cby jkahn - Hockey

TrotskyI thought you had to appeal if you were an undergrad and it was only granted for reasons like "my hockey team disappeared" (Fairfield) or "my university disappeared" (Lake Forest). Lake Forest College still exists and its men's hockey season started yesterday.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros 2020-2021 - 3 years ago
Jacob MacDonald '15 played 19 min. 41 sec. at D for the Avalanche last night. He's now played in 3 games. Both Cale Makar and Erik Johnson were out with injuries, so we'll see if Jacob can stay in the lineup when they return. For a guy who could hardly get much playing time his freshmen year, he's come a long way.by jkahn - Hockey

CU2007 Too little too late? and why only for this year's seniors? What about juniors, sophs and frosh who have lost a year. Not doing it for them just gives them an incentive to transfer.by jkahn - Hockey

Trotsky jkahnFast forward to Nov. 2002, and Cornell is playing at Western Michigan. The game goes into overtime and I'm sitting next to Dick Bertrand. October 2003 possibly? No. Was actually Dec. 7, 2002 -early the the Frozen Four season. And thanks to tbrw, here's the box score:by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Grad transfers - 3 years ago
Beeeej Dafatone Is there any reason for allowing grad transfers to play in new locations but not their undergrad school? The Ivies don't give you the same five-year span to use your four years of eligibility; you have to use them in your first four unless one's a medical redshirt, and even those are rare exceptions for which you have to apply. The bigger restriction is the Ivy's strict rule agaby jkahn - Hockey

Not a Cornellian, but Morgan Barron's younger brother Justin is on Team Canada's roster. He was a first round draft choice of the Avalanche in the recent draft and plays defense. He just turned 19 in November and is already in his 4th season of Junior A hockey in Halifax.by jkahn - Hockey

ugarte jtwcornell91 George64 David Harding Several years ago we were driving outside Toronto and our GPS sent us onto am all-electronic tool road. Back home in Illinois a couple of months later we got a bill in the mail. Same happened to me — I recall it was a very hefty fee. I’ve been very careful ever since when driving near Toronto. Re: RIP John Hughes - 3 years ago
Kenny Albert gave a nice tribute to John late in the Colorado-Arizona game. He mentioned that they had been talking about Ken Dryden earlier, who was on Cornell's '67 championship team, but the year after Dryden graduated, John was a captain of Cornell's undefeated 1970 national championship team, and he sent along his condolences to the family.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Rules Changes? - 3 years ago
For purposes of the Pairwise, i.e. the criteria that selects the NCAA Tournament field, these overtime games will count as 55 percent of a win. So for us purists/ math geeks, etc. at least they have very much minimized the value of the 3 vs. 3 and shootout, since a tie is 50% of a win and they've only added an extra 5% at stake for the gimmicky conclusion. It's basically the equivalent of 1.1 poby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Morgan Barron article - 3 years ago
With the newly negotiated CBA, a player who signs by July 15 (this Wednesday) will have this season count toward his free agency clock regarding service, even though that player will not be eligible for the playoffs. I expect we may see a few players who have hesitated jump at this opportunity.by jkahn - Hockey

jtwcornell91 Dafatone Trotsky Jesus fuck. Just have a wet t-shirt contest. My money's on Mike. 3 on 3 is entertaining. Like, I'd watch some sort of 3 on 3 hockey league. As an OT tiebreaker, you might as well flip a coin. At the very least, they better implement some sort of point situation where an OT loser gets a point, because it's a shame to lose in OT on something as random as 3 on 3.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: LIU adds men's hockey - 3 years ago
With UAH dropping hockey, there's now a way that LIU can get themselves an instant D-1 team. And that former UAH squad with the LIU location would be a good fit for the ACHA.by jkahn - Hockey

scoop85 Barlow scored a magical goal with 17 seconds left. Thanks for posting. I was there and it felt great re-living the euphoria of the moment. Before the game I was talking to an Ottawa scout and trying to talk up Barlow to him. I think I really wanted to distract him from Greening, hoping he wouldn't interfere with Greening staying for his senior year. I told the scout that every seby jkahn - Hockey

upprdeck I see Princeton has decided to not allow any kids who drop out a chance to play the 5th yr. So Sowers is now on the market. Can Teat and Sowers switch schools now? It looks like Sowers has decided to finish the semester and then use the transfer portal. So he won't be coming to Cornell, but will go somewhere where grad students can play.by jkahn - Other Sports
Re: Incoming Recruits - 4 years ago
Looking quickly at the Central Scouting final rankings, the only future Cornellian I spotted was Hank Kempf, defenseman, entering in 2021. He's ranked # 204 of North American skaters and as I posted awhile back, he's a cousin (1st cousin once removed) of Stephen Bâby. And speaking of relatives, Justin Barron (Morgan's brother) is ranked #16 of North American skaters. He's already playedby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Vote Barron for Hobey - 4 years ago
abmarks BearLover abmarks Do any of you actually think he was the best player in the country last season? Seriously? Barron was a dominant force in every game I watched this season. Others voting for him likely feel the same way.
