Re: [OT] Ivy Hoops - 20 years ago
check out the 11pm SportsCenter tonight...as of now, the Cornell-Princeton basketball game is scheduled to lead the show. Guess we have the lack of NBA and top 25 games to thank for that.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Red Line Meeting on Monday at 5 - 20 years ago
yes, I know there's a ticket exchange, but I have an extra ticket to the game at RPI, it's in the Cornell section, so if you're looking for a ticket to that game, let me know before you call the ticket office so this ticket doesn't go to waste. sorry for the ticket post here.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: [OT] Ivy Hoops - 20 years ago
The loss to Yale hurt our RPI enough that we currently rank 65th out of the teams that would make the tournament if things ended the way they are. To be honest, I'd rather see Cornell in the play-in game, because then they get an extra game, and even better than that, they have a shot in hell at winning a postseason game.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Undergrad tix next year - 20 years ago
You heard it first on Adrianno Macchio's eLynah Forum. Related to Ralph, no doubt. "He's gonna fight! Daniel LaRusso is gonna fight!"by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Exter article, 7/6/03 - 20 years ago
From the ECHL: Exter's Comeback Continues With First Pro Win Wheeling's Joe Exter took another giant step forward in his hockey career. Making his first professional start, Exter had 20 saves and registered his first professional win in a 4-3 overtime victory at Cincinnati on February 7. Signed to a contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on December 24, Exter waby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: No love for 1970? - 20 years ago
Actually, I work in the ESPN research department. Sometimes we get emails asking for input in these types of things...but unfortunately not this time. Besides, UNC women's soccer got a pair of mentions.by cornelldavy - Hockey
No love for 1970? - 20 years ago
ESPN's Page 2 today had a list of the greatest undefeated teams in history. While I'm not expecting the 1970 Cornell hockey team to land at number one, come on, not even an honorable mention? That's the only unbeaten, untied team in NCAA hockey history! Maybe it's just as well. They probably would have given Ken Dryden credit as being the goalie on that team. Re: 2/6: Cornell 2 Dartmouth 1, 1st - 20 years ago
In other positive Cornell sports news, the men's basketball team is poised to go 5-0 in Ivy play. They're up 42-22 on Brown at halftime. Ka'Ron Barnes has 19 points at the break. Barnes, by the way, is leading the Ivy League in points per game (20.8) and is 19th in the country in that stat. Also, Pelletier is starting in net tonight for Springfield against Manchester.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: Feb 2004 - 20 years ago
Noticed a few things in today's transactions: Phoenix Coyotes - Agreed to end their affiliation deal with Springfield of the American Hockey League at the end of the 2003-04 season. Tampa Bay Lightning - Agreed to a multi-year affiliation deal with Springfield of the American Hockey League. I assume that means Lenny and JMP will move to another minor league team next year, if they're still inby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: Feb 2004 - 20 years ago
Actually, because of the very unbalanced schedule that the AHL plays, Worcester has faced Springfield 8 times this season. In 4 of those games, Sejna played and Lenny started in net for Springfield...which would actually make those stats very proportionate (4/28, 10/71). Regardless, good job by Lenny. As I recall, Sejna scored an NHL goal in his first pro game against future Hall-of-Famer Patricby cornelldavy - Hockey

I happened to turn that on just in time to catch Paolini's goal...kind of a soft goal, actually...the goalie got a piece of it. FYI...you can bid on the game-worn jerseys from the ECHL all-star game, as well as the 13 pucks used to score goals (unfortunately, it doesn't tell you which puck was which goal, they're just called pucks 1-13, and I'm not sure that they're in order). The jerseys arby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: Jan 2004 - 20 years ago
At least it's good to know that there is still only one Matt Underhill: Forward Matt Reid got in the Underhill's way and guided the goalie back to his crease as he continued to shout at the referee. On the other hand, Mark McRae had a pair of assists and a minor penalty in the loss. Unfortunately, he missed his shot in the OT shootout.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Game thread - Dartmouth 0 Cornell 1 (3rd per) - 20 years ago
I'd just like to say that the Dartmouth announcers (I assume they're students) are doing a pretty good job and, aside from calling Dartmouth "we," are not calling the game as homers at all...they've praised the Cornell crowd several times and tried to encourage listeners in Hanover to be more like the Faithful. They even got excited when Carefoot scored. Although, the most telling pieceby cornelldavy - Hockey

Looks like Paolini and McRae made Cornell proud in the skills competition. Paolini was the runner up in the fastest skater competition: Eastern Conference (14.508 average) d. Western Conference (15.074 average) 1. Kevin Spiewak, South Carolina, 14.166 2. Sam Paolini, Atlantic City, 14.550 And Paolini and McRae both made their shots in the breakaway relay: Eastern Conference vs. Dan Ellis, Idby cornelldavy - Hockey

I'd help you out, but I've been living here for two weeks - I don't know the bars here...by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Everblades in Hartford, CT - 20 years ago
I'd be for that, especially considering the Eagles are playing tonight. But I doubt very much that any bar will surrender even one TV for hockey in the face of the final day of the NFL regular season. If you find one though, let me know, since this could be the last chance I get to see the Red in a while (unless I manage to get a ticket for the Harvard game...anyone? anyone?)by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Everblades in Hartford, CT - 20 years ago
Unfortunately, I have to work on Saturday until 6, but if I can get out of work early, will the game be shown at Sliders? I'll be coming from Bristol, so I could make it for the end of the game even if I have to leave work at 6. And, knock on wood, should the Red manage the unthinkable and win in Florida on Saturday, would anyone be watching the game on Sunday? Would any place even show the gameby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
You're saying that you can only throw things at players so long as it is tradition. Are you really suggesting that throwing bottles at the opposing team becomes a tradition? I'm open to new ideas and all, but throwing bottles is neither creative, clever, nor up to the standards of the Lynah Faithful. Traditions are supposed to start for a reason. There's a story behind the fish, the octopi, anby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
I can tell you the guy in B that threw the bottle at Dwyer in the W. Michigan game deserves praise. You're an idiot. Period. Nobody should ever throw anything on the ice besides fish, newspaper, octopi (in Detroit) and oranges (even if that is kind of lame).by cornelldavy - Hockey

"There's no doubt the Cornell fans are very loyal to their team and make no secret about their willingness to travel great distances to see their team play," Sullivan said in a telephone interview. yougoon, I gave correcting the "you lose" cheer my best shot when I was a student, I wrote a column in the Sun that mentioned the cheer: I've been informed by my sources in section D that some people are concluding the cheer for opponents' penalties with "you lose." This is far from correct, even if the other team is actually losing. The proper cheer goes, "Ahhh ... sby cornelldavy - Hockey

Re: Cornell football coach axed - 20 years ago
Appropriately enough, considering the origin of this thread, Kornheiser and Wilbon mentioned Pendergast's name as the fired head coach of Cornell football in their "big finish" segment of PTI. Wilbon called Pendergast Kornheiser's boy, Kornheiser tried to get Pendergast's back, Wilbon asked what Cornell's record was this year, and Kornheiser gave a generalized "they had a bad recorby cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: [OT] Pendergast Fired - 20 years ago
You can not measure his success simply by results on the field. I realize he was a decent person, but coaches are hired specifically for getting results on the field. We have substandard facilities, a minimal budget, and assistant coaches left over from the dark ages. I know it was Tims job to produce a winner and unfortunatley that did not happen, however I will go on record as saying who everby cornelldavy - Hockey

If he had a contract extending past this season (no idea if he does) then stepping down would cost him $$$. From what I've heard, he had a five-year deal, which means the university ate the last two years. Personally, I'm very glad to see this move happen...I thought he was going to be around for at least one more year.
