Re: Cornell under scrutiny of DOE for potential Title IV violations - 5 months ago
George64 To Martha Pollack, I say “It’s all your fault!, It’s all your fault!” After all, she was president when former engineering student and mentally ill Patrick Dai was admitted. Everything's poor Martha's fault: snow, ice, headaches, tough prelims, every sports loss. After all, she wasn't popular at Michigan and someone thought she was a bit different as an undergraduate. Trotsky The Palestra is a remarkable place for basketball history. I would compare it to Matthews Arena. Went to Matthews Saturday night. The wall at the west end is being held up by a forest of girders propped against the outside of the wall. Fans not allowed to sit in the balcony sections against that wall. Not a good sign.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football coach - 5 months ago
George64 Local Motion As I have stated before.............regardless of the coach we hire changes need to be made with the Big Red football team from the stadium to the issues with admissions and financial aid. Otherwise the new coach will last three years and we are right back to where we started. Are you suggesting that we become the 15th member of the Big 10? It’s my understanding that Ivyby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football coach - 5 months ago
Local Motion While I agree we need a new head football coach, the overall football programs goes far beyond the coach. On the list you have some very successful coaches who have left like Jim Hofher and Jim Knowles, but departed the program frustrated with the lack of support in terms of facilities, admissions, and financial aid. As we discussed the Ivy League is a sports conference and not anby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

ugarte What in the world happened to Boothby's 3 point shot? He slipped last year considerably and was 0-3 last night. Proposal for the future, if the hoops fans are going to be active, that we have "weekend" threads rather than have a basketball thread that stretches forever. Nightmare on mobile. Good chance I'll be at Rose Hill on Saturday afternoon to watch us play Fordham. Dinby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

mountainred Season Opener tonight at Lehigh. Last year v. the formerly Engineers was maybe the best game the guys played all season. The pregame notes list Gray, Manon and Noard as starters -- all expected -- but then list Sophomores Nix and Noard as joining them. Does anyone know if Nazir Williams is hurt? Quite a handicap if Noard has to play two positions.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: game chat on slack (invite inside) - 5 months ago
Dunc Trotsky Slack's fine for game chat, and then eLynah for the rest of the week. The only issue with this is you have to pay to see old messages in slack which would kind of suck not to have game chat saved for later reference Right. Thanks.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell football 2023 - 5 months ago
Local Motion When is the last time you have been back to Cornell to speak with either students or staff? I think Martha Pollack is a very good administrator just not a good college president or leader. It's not just the football program right now as Martha Pollack has been a very divisive leader on campus. It's obvious among many of our students and staff they do not like Martha Pollack as shby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: game chat on slack (invite inside) - 5 months ago
pfibiger I’m not suggesting moving away from elynah — in the brown thread people were pining about missing elynah chat and had rejoined the slack we had a few years ago. I just wanted to make the invite link visible in case people wanted it. I'm not pining.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

billhoward Cornell-at-Yale tickets are available, Yale says "limited," but there is standing room. Availability is certainly better than in the years around the national championship year (2013). You can find parking on-street, it'll be a 5- or 10-minute walk. The paid-parking garage is quite near, easy-in, but a wait to get out post-game. ugarte David Harding I like Ithaca. If I grew up in Ithaca, Ithaca would be the last place I'd go to college. I grew up in Ithaca. I like Ithaca. Trotsky BearLover $350, can that really be true? That is $27/game. Way too expensive for a college hockey game. The money doesn’t even go to the hockey team.I don't know that it is any more expensive than tickets in our day. $27 now equals $8.28 of purchasing power 40 years ago with an average inflation rate of 3%. abmarks Trotsky scoop85 Trotsky Guys who I thought especially distinguished themselves tonight: O'Leary, Bancroft, Walsh, Shane, Castagna, Seger. When Grady says “Castagna” my brain instantly converts that to “Can’t stand ya” from the Seinfeld library cop episode.Mandatory: Seinfeld sucks. dag14 I watched most of the game while doing chores around the house and my impression from what I saw was that the score makes it look closer than it was. Cornell controlled most of the play and had more quality shots even though the stats are pretty balanced. Scored a SHG I think. RPI's one goal was an ENG at the end of the game. Izzy Daniel's SHG off a slick move.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
