Scersk '97 scoop85 Jane McNally also had a nice game story in the Sun. Really well done. Clear from the quotes that Schafer was not exactly pleased with the other lines. Schafer's post-game interview:by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

George64 Trotsky She could have said "freedom of expression means what it says, asshole" and walked out. But she equivocated like every mealy-mouthed corporate-academic President or Provost of the last 30 years would, and she wrote her own death sentence. Good riddance. billhoward Also the era when Cornell with Black players beat Kentucky at Kentucky. Legend has it that the Wildcats' coach, Adolph Rupp, realized the future of basketball was not White-only. We won 92-77 (December 1968) and it helped Rupp let the state of Kentucky see the handwriting on the wall. That and Kentucky six months earlier losing the NCAA championship to UTEP (now Texas Western) with allby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

CU2007 upprdeck At the same time our HS has had far more concussions from soccer than football for many years. I read somewhere that girls soccer was the 2nd highest concussion rate, behind football. And I think USA Soccer banned headers until age 15 or so because of it - could be wrong there. Most were caused by heading the ball without fully developed neck muscles to support the impact on thby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

George64 To Martha Pollack, I say “It’s all your fault!, It’s all your fault!” After all, she was president when former engineering student and mentally ill Patrick Dai was admitted. Everything's poor Martha's fault: snow, ice, headaches, tough prelims, every sports loss. After all, she wasn't popular at Michigan and someone thought she was a bit different as an undergraduate. Trotsky The Palestra is a remarkable place for basketball history. I would compare it to Matthews Arena. Went to Matthews Saturday night. The wall at the west end is being held up by a forest of girders propped against the outside of the wall. Fans not allowed to sit in the balcony sections against that wall. Not a good sign.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football coach - 4 months ago
George64 Local Motion As I have stated before.............regardless of the coach we hire changes need to be made with the Big Red football team from the stadium to the issues with admissions and financial aid. Otherwise the new coach will last three years and we are right back to where we started. Are you suggesting that we become the 15th member of the Big 10? It’s my understanding that Ivyby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football coach - 4 months ago
Local Motion While I agree we need a new head football coach, the overall football programs goes far beyond the coach. On the list you have some very successful coaches who have left like Jim Hofher and Jim Knowles, but departed the program frustrated with the lack of support in terms of facilities, admissions, and financial aid. ugarte What in the world happened to Boothby's 3 point shot? He slipped last year considerably and was 0-3 last night. Proposal for the future, if the hoops fans are going to be active, that we have "weekend" threads rather than have a basketball thread that stretches forever. Nightmare on mobile. Good chance I'll be at Rose Hill on Saturday afternoon to watch us play Fordham. Dinby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

mountainred Season Opener tonight at Lehigh. Last year v. the formerly Engineers was maybe the best game the guys played all season. The pregame notes list Gray, Manon and Noard as starters -- all expected -- but then list Sophomores Nix and Noard as joining them. Does anyone know if Nazir Williams is hurt? Quite a handicap if Noard has to play two positions.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

Dunc Trotsky Slack's fine for game chat, and then eLynah for the rest of the week. The only issue with this is you have to pay to see old messages in slack which would kind of suck not to have game chat saved for later reference Right. Thanks.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell football 2023 - 4 months ago
Local Motion When is the last time you have been back to Cornell to speak with either students or staff? I think Martha Pollack is a very good administrator just not a good college president or leader. It's not just the football program right now as Martha Pollack has been a very divisive leader on campus. It's obvious among many of our students and staff they do not like Martha Pollack as shby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
