Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
CAS The author of the Cornell BB Blog wrote today, "Haven't felt this helpless despair following Cornell MBB since Al Walker era" - early-mid '90's. that guy kept defending Courtney to no end, even when it was clear during his first season that he flat out couldn't coachby underskill - Other Sports
Re: Should He Stay or Shoul He Go Part 2 - 9 years ago
this convo is kinda ridiculous at this point--I'd say it'd be one thing if he was in his late 60s or 70s and it was a Lou Marsh/Tim Taylor situation where you can argue it's time for him to move on;here we're talking about what a mediocre 3 years, not a decade. And we all know Cornell isn't going to open the vault and hire a big name replacement anyways. That said, I wouldn't mind a coachingby underskill - Hockey

Cop at Lynah I believe it's a known trend that our recruits are younger than in previous time periods. It was never unusual to get freshman in at 20-22 years old. Now most of the freshman are 18-20 years old. The younger age brings with it a steeper curve as it relates to be ready for NCAA level of play. I remember a former Cornell assistant coach telling me a few years ago that he couldnby underskill - Hockey
Re: Lowry injury update - 9 years ago
maybe this is like the 2000-2001 season where it was all defense and no offense; problem is I don't see anyone in the underclass who really are close to contributing offensively.by underskill - Hockey

ugarte upprdeck this thread is a reminder of how we have attendance issues.. 10 years ago this would have been a 10 page thread discussing the game.that's one theory. I also think it's much easier to find live scores now between elynah twitter and the CHN and USCHO apps.by underskill - Hockey

I don't think it's losing per se, the program has just felt stuck in neutral the past few years, maybe the fourth or fifth best program in the conference since 2010.by underskill - Hockey

it sure doesn't feel like the team is more nationally competitive then a decade ago--if anything it feels like the program has slid backwards.by underskill - Hockey

Swampy Kyle Rose Tom Lentobut I think anyone even considering removing him as head coach needs to step back from the ledge. This is why even "maybe" isn't a good fit for my response. I don't think Cornell should get rid of Schafer, because no one has identified anyone who would come into the program and do a better job. That said, "Schafer must go" and "Schafer should staby underskill - Hockey

Hard to believe that Iles only tourney appearance was as a sophmore given all the hype coming in. It feels like we've definitely underachieved since the Scrivens-Greening class left.by underskill - Hockey
Re: Favorite Harvard Game Memory - 10 years ago
Josh '99 Beeeej It's worth mentioning that the context of the 2003 ECAC title game was one of the factors that made it so special. The previous title game, 2002 in Lake Placid, there was a general feeling among the Lynah Faithful who'd made the trip that this should be our year. Yes, we'd had our usual crapfest in the Florida tournament, but we finished strong, and dispatched Yale and RPI prettyby underskill - Hockey

Re: Future of NCAA Regionals - 11 years ago
KeithK Josh '99 KeithK BMac Alternate idea: would sticking a regional in a "destination location" work? Montreal, Lake Placid (for those of us who haven't been there), or Atlanti sorry. They've tried destination locations for the FF (Anaheim) and attendance suffered. I doubt you'd get great attendance in the locations you mentioned. You also need someone to host (do the legwork), whichby underskill - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament - 11 years ago
I remember all the talk on this board a couple years ago about how well Yale's system would hold up on a national level, but seems to me regardless of the result today, that they have been skating evenly with both NoDak and Minnesota yesterday. Certainly no major shot disparities like some of the Cornell games against those teams.by underskill - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale 2013 - 11 years ago
jek86 anybody know why Mowrey didn't play last night? I thought he was a significant absence as one of the faster guys on the team. Without him and Bardreau in the line-up I was not surprised we couldn't keep up with Yale in the first period. Also I haven't seen Gotovets play in weeks...any word? definitely looked like the Ferlin/Lowry/Miller line was the only one capable of generating any ofby underskill - Hockey
Re: Next Year's Finish (Poll) - 11 years ago
MattS underskill but if there's some behind the scenes stuff going on, I wouldn't be shocked if we see some early departures either next year (Ferlin, Lowry, etc.) I have wondered about this also. I think there are two ways to look at it strictly from a hockey standpoint... First, nobody has shown this season that they are able to consistently compete at a high level thus making a jump to a morby underskill - Hockey

pfibiger Just to mix things up a little bit: Kennedy, Dryden, Eliot, LeNeveu Good as he was, I don't think anyone who only played for 2 years would qualify w/o winning a NC (esp. since Leneveu wasn't even full time his first year)by underskill - Hockey
Re: Season Review - 12 years ago
RichH I had to remind myself several times yesterday how fortunate I am to follow a team that delivers this kind of hurt as often as it does. Big thanks to this team for the effort this season and for exceeding my expectations. Beyond all the ups and downs, I'm most proud that they found ways to win against several opponents that I felt were more talented. All I wanted out of this postseason wby underskill - Hockey
