Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 8 years ago
what TV revenues could these conferences possibly be getting for college hockey though? especially the ECACby underskill - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 8 years ago
or 4-5k attendance is the new normal for these events, given the way attendance is sliding across college sports in general, and how much easier it is to watch college hockey online and on tv as compared to say 10-15 years ago.by underskill - Hockey
Re: ECAC Lake Placid - 8 years ago
Seems like everyone on this board is just upset Q has replaced Cornell as the best program in the conference. Didn't we used to recruit overage players during the Bâby Murray years too?by underskill - Hockey

Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
I think the basic question is what accounts for the past 4-5 years of mediocre results, is it a bad recruiting class or two that didn't pan out as expected, or is it something more structural in the program, such that Yale and QU's recent dominance isn't just a blip but something more longterm.by underskill - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
shouldn't we wait till the end of the season for the post-mortem?by underskill - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Begins - 8 years ago
BearLover Less than 16 means either conference champs wouldn't get in or many deserving teams wouldn't make it. and gives school less incentive to invest in the sport as a resultby underskill - Hockey
Re: Do we need a housecleaning in the athletics dept? - 8 years ago
CAS I don't share all the pessimism we can't compete in football. We had winning programs throughout the '90s. We were on the right track under Coach Austin. With the right coach and institutional support, why can't we compete? Perhaps we should drop basketball too, given the current state of that program. Basketball costs a lot less to run as a program and doesn't require a retrofit on a staby underskill - Other Sports

and here comes the Fire Schafer trolling part of the season from people who've never played hockey.by underskill - Hockey
Re: Do we need a housecleaning in the athletics dept? - 8 years ago
CAS Don't agree we can't do better than 5-25 in football and 26-52 in basketball. Prior 2 years under Austin in football we were 9-11. Prior 6 years in Ivy basketball under Donahue we were 63-21. well, that assumes another Donahue situation is possible. Certainly in football, it seems like the program is comparatively underfunded. 5-25 vs. 9-11 isn't drastically different if that's all you'reby underskill - Other Sports

I don't see what a new AD would do differently, unless they're prepared to invest a lot of money on big name coaches for football and basketball.by underskill - Other Sports

Jim Hyla This doesn't have anything to do with tonight's game, but what the heck. From the article on Matthew Nuttle: Q: Canisius and Niagara are in that area, but Buffalo isn't exactly a huge college hockey town yet. Did you have exposure to college hockey as a kid? A: Actually, my first exposure to college hockey was when the Frozen Four was in Buffalo in 2003 when Cornell was in the Frozenby underskill - Hockey

Ken711 toddlose Ken711 CAS Cornell losing 31-6 early 4th quarter. Headed to 15th loss in last 16 games. 1 winning season in last 16 years. Andy has named 4 head coaches during this period. We are the new "Columbia" of the Ivy League. That may be an insult to Columbia. OK, we are the new "old losing streak Columbia". We can't even kick an extra point on our lone TD? Re: Season tickets - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla redice Will Cop at Lynah They'r getting desperate now by offering a split season ticket package. Going to be awful difficult for the athletic department to handle the loss of revenue . Is this the result of high ticket prices and the atmosphere that has been created over the past few years or have people just lost interest in the program ? They're all contributing factors. Ultimately,by underskill - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
why Nieuwendyk? I get he's a big name, but he's got no coaching experience, and I don't want a Ted Donato situation, with a famous alum you can't fire if need be.by underskill - Hockey
Re: "Yale's in Tempe" - 8 years ago
KeithK RichH LynahFaithful *YAWN* I don't see Arizona State Hockey going anywhere soon in their first year of playing Division 1 Hockey - they have played club hockey in the past and the jump to Division 1 is going to be HARD initially. I believe they will also struggle with recruiting in their first few years of Division 1 play. I don't think you're wrong. This seems pretty similar to Penn Stby underskill - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
in fairness, the problems of the last 5 years are mostly mediocrity, not outright disaster either, so it's not like the program has fallen off a cliff in any way, it seems more of a general Jimmy Carter-like malaise.by underskill - Hockey
Re: Tough times for Cornell athletics - 8 years ago
BearLover underskill I'm assuming the administration is concerned with success in wrestling, hockey and lacrosse on a consistent basis; anything else is a bonus. Definitely not true. Football raises the most money and is historically (where "history" is defined as going back a loooong time) our most important sport. if it raises the most money, then I doubt they have an incentive toby underskill - Other Sports
Re: Tough times for Cornell athletics - 8 years ago
CAS Agree Trotsky re fundraising. Annual football giving, even with the current state of the program, is a big multiple of what's raised for hockey. isn't that a function of numbers? i.e. a football alumni list is inherently much larger than a hockey list given the size of rosters.by underskill - Other Sports

I think it's really cool when done right but no way would Cornells budget support something that high tech, so it's probably just be tacky.by underskill - Hockey

Towerroad Kyle Rose KeithK... and fenway are the best places in MLB to watch a ballgame precisely because of the old school "features" (drawbacks to some). Yeah, Fenway is awesome if you like looking at support posts and craning your head 70 degrees to the left to see the infield if you didn't pay a ton for your seats.
