Re: top 15 2/7 - 21 years ago
It seems to me that the number one seeds and region assignments are going to hinge on the outcome of the conference tournaments - especially the Hockey East tournament and us winning the ECAC tournament. Forgetting PWR for a moment, I think it is perceived that if we are any good (by which I mean top four good) we will win the ECAC and if we don't then we aren't worthy of a #1 seed. Re: Way OT: Armenia - 21 years ago
I knew you were referring to Cornell heritage which is why I changed my subject to "Way OT". I was just curious when Marty mentioned Armenia because I think outside of my own family I haven't randomly encountered too many: One guy in high school and Prof. Terzian's daughter in my class at Cornell.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Way OT: Armenia - 21 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Spelling has been a big hurdle in my mother's research as is the hand written entries on census records, naturalization papers, etc. My grandparents name was Chakerian which in some records was spelled Tchakerian. Apparently this convention originates with the French and their influence on international postal standards. And I think the legend of Ellis Islby nyc94 - Hockey
Way OT: Armenia - 21 years ago
Do you know much about your grandparent's history in the "old country" and travels to the US? My mother's parents were from Armenia although they left at different times at actually met here. My mother is now researching their various travels through visa records, ship manifests, etc.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Albany Ticket Time? - 21 years ago
Would a current student explain how Cornell did student season tickets this year and in recent seasons? I was within the unfortunate mob scene that developed behind Schoelkopf in the fall of 1991 which resulted in the "line number checks" and the "Lynah slumber party" of 1992.by nyc94 - Hockey

"No one cares if you care what Europe thinks." I would never say that to anyone on this board. I care that you have opinions and I'll respect you even if you disagree with me. Doesn't mean I have to like what you have to say. Again, I think I've raised some questions here about statements made by some Democratic leaders. Rather than defend the policy I've received insults and healthby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
I honestly don't think I said anything very harsh. I actually posed some questions about the positions of both parties. I asked multiple people to further explain their statements. No response. What I get is that I have an "obsession" and a correction of my grammar. Are you going to critique the dozens of people here with nothing more constructive to say than "Bush is stupid&qby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
Again, do you really believe Bush is entirely responsible for the current state of the economy? Seriously, outline it for me because I think the economy is far beyond the control of one person. Tax cuts, interest rate changes, etc. do not cause immediate effects. Give me your best explanation. Really. Excuse me if I don't care what Europe thinks. Re: - 21 years ago
Another point I would like to make that nails both sides but I'll mostly criticize the stupidity of the language Democrats use. First, I think the Bush tax cuts were a bad idea - and I voted for him. But to imply that the deficits of today are entirely his fault is not really fair. Clinton was extremely lucky that Al Gore invented the internet. "For that matter, it's nearly the same story for vouchers. Would the Bushies be pushing school vouchers if we said, "OK, fine. But they will be strictly needs-based. Little Erica will not be chauffered to Andover on the public tab"? Not likely. This policy is just another GOP dodge to make us pay the tab while their conies put their kids through prep school, with the added bonus ofby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
Another point: I am all for spending more money on the schools. I just wish the Democrats would admit that the teachers union is just as much a "special interest" (their third favorite phrase) as any corporate donor. I can't help but be skeptical of them when the California teachers lobbied to set curriculums locally because without uniform curriculums it would be difficult if not imby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
I'm pretty much repulsed by both parties although I have always voted Republican. Since Cornell I've lived in Massachusetts and New York City so my votes have never mattered anyway. But here are my few thoughts: Does anyone know how taxing all income for Social Security purposes would affect the solvency of the program? Or why it was set up this way in the first place? By this I mean cappingby nyc94 - Hockey

Re: - 21 years ago
I think you are ignoring a few things. The United Nations negotiated peace with Iraq required them to disarm and allow for inspections. They haven't been living up to their end of it. In many ways this is a continuation of the first Gulf War. It isn't quite the same as just dropping in on Iraq because we don't like their leadership. I also disagree that encouraging an overthrow is somehow mby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
Not being a history major, can you tell me when we experimented with democarcy in Iran? I thought we propped up the Shah until the Revolution came. And interestingly, 20 years later the young people want democracy. The only thing really stopping it is the religious leaders. I agree that democracy would be a long time coming in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc. Maybe it will take a generation. I hardby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
Yes, we should second guess our leaders but on matters of military intelligence, they know far more than we do. You might think invading Iraq is a bad idea but I doubt you know more than Bush, the CIA, the Pentagon. . . or the New York Times.by nyc94 - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. Clarkson 3-0 FINAL - 21 years ago
From the man with the best view of it all, in today's Daily Sun, "The guy shot it, I think it might have been tipped and it just hit the very corner of the crossbar where it meets the post, and it hit me on the side of my head on the way back, and it landed right on the line," LeNeveu explained. Re: Pierre - 21 years ago
Excellent post! My memory of the Harvard game of 1993-1994 is a little hazy but there was a scuffle after the whistle and a Harvard player got a five minute penalty. A few minutes later a Harvard player was on a break away, closely pursued by a Cornell player. Our guy was at least two strides behind and had yet to get a stick on the Harvard player. Re: espn.com mention - 21 years ago
I don't know why I let these things get to me. In 2001, during the campaign for Mayor of New York City, they made a point of saying that Bloomberg and Green were both graduates of Harvard. It wasn't until after the election that I learned that Mark Green got his undergraduate degree from Cornell and a graduate degree (or Law, I really don't remember) from Harvard. But you're right, there is noby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: espn.com mention. . & Harvard - 21 years ago
As seems typical in all journalism, not just sports, Harvard worked its way into an article that it had nothing to do with. If ESPN.com felt the need to say that Harvard is in first place and Cornell is in second, they should have added that Cornell was four points behind having played four fewer games (at the time).
