Re: Ivy League lacrosse tournament 5/3 5/5/19 - 4 years ago
Yes, a Penn loss and and ND win can push ND as high as #4 and Penn down to #6. Also, Cornell's SOS will be #3 in this scenario, Maryland's #16. It's hard to see Maryland taken over Cornell by the numbers, but that's why we have a committee of random humans: to add meaningless drama. And yes, if Cornell had only managed to hang on to beat Penn, then Cornell, Yale, and Penn would have shared thby CU77 - Other Sports

No. But root for Towson anyway. Also Notre Dame, Lehigh, Yale, and PSU.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Princeton lacrosse 4/27/19 - 5 years ago
Nice win. Cornell helped by some questionable calls and Princeton's D-man Baughan, who was guarding JT51 and who did a terrific job last year, left the game sometime in the first half (presumably with an injury). But a win is a win is a win. On to Yale in NYC!by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Princeton lacrosse 4/27/19 - 5 years ago
Al DeFlorio Situation: Princeton leads by two when Cornell picks up a ground ball with 80 seconds left to play. Does Cornell try to score and then hope to force overtime or play keep-away to prevent Princeton from scoring and winning by three? Holds the ball, of course. The probability of scoring two goals in 80 sec (with a weak FO game), and then first in OT, is very very small. This situby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Princeton lacrosse 4/27/19 - 5 years ago
Princeton is wishing they had lost to Brown by 6 or more, instead of by 4. Then they would make the ILT with a win over Cornell by any margin. As it is, they must win by 3 or more.by CU77 - Other Sports

That's because it's not logical. It's based on rankings that fundamentally do not make sense.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Brown lacrosse 4/20/19 - 5 years ago
Actually the ND win was not so good for us: laxreference Notre Dame getting into the field is probably bad for Cornell. But if they do look like they are going to get in, then you guys should be rooting for them to win the ACC tournament. Overall Cornell makes it in 39.2% of the time when ND is in the field. If ND wins the ACC tournament, Cornell's chances only rise to 43.6%. When ND misseby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
Al DeFlorioWhat if Pr wins by 5, so both Pr and B finish +1? Then Cornell is -2, and eliminated from the tie (and the ILT). Then B gets the #3 seed because they beat Pr. I didn't previously realize that this tie-breaking system can be so wacky. If Cornell is losing to Princeton late by 3, 4 or 5 goals, then they should score some own goals so that they lose by 6 or more. Similarly, Princetoby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - faceoff futility - 5 years ago
That's how I intended to do it (and I have confirmation from an informed source that this is correct), but I now realize I did the MOV=6 case the other way, and it should be Pr,C. I believe the others are correct.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - faceoff futility - 5 years ago
C>B, Pe>D, Pr>H today. Next week, HvY is now irrelevant to the ILT. Here are the remaining scenarios: B>D C>Pr: Pe,Y,C,B B>D Pr>C: Pe,Y,(B,C,Pr)* D>B C>Pr: Pe,Y,C,B D>B Pr>C: Pe,Y,Pr,C * depends on Princeton's margin of victory (capped at 6 max) over Cornell: MOV = 1,2: C,B MOV = 3,4,5: B,Pr MOV = 6: Pr,C (wrong before, now fixed)by CU77 - Other Sports

Early rumors were that TD was coming to Cornell. Switch to Yale came after he visited there.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Notre Dame game Thread - 5 years ago
Indeed. A loss makes Cornell much less likely to get an at-large NCAA bid. Towson is Cornell's best win, and they lost to UMass today; Cornell's 2nd best win, Lehigh, recently lost to Robert Morris. Massey gives Cornell a 42% win probability against ND. It will be a tough battle, but the Red is capable of a victory if things go their way.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Syracuse lacrosse game thread - 5 years ago
Good FOGOS are quick enough to clamp the ball a high percentage of the time. This could be eliminated by changing the rule to have a starting position where both FOGO stick heads are flat on the ground. The quicker FOGO could get to the ball first, but would rarely be able to clamp it before the other knocks it away. This would turn almost all faceoffs into 50-50 ground balls.by CU77 - Other Sports

nshapiro CU77, didn't you used to post the Lacrosse KRACH(L) on Laxpower? I did not see it on the Fanlax forum...does it exist? Cornellian Matt Carberry does KRACH for MLAX on his site. For some reason I can't seem to post links; google Matt Carberry Z ratingsby CU77 - Other Sports
Cornell-Syracuse lacrosse game thread - 5 years ago
OK, I will start a thread. Game is Tuesday at the Dome at 6 PM, broadcast on ESPNU. No Cornell games notes yet. Last year, Cornell beat Cuse twice, 13-8 in Ithaca in the regular season, and 10-9 in the Dome in round-1 of the NCAA tournament. Cuse led most of the way in the latter, by as many as 3, before Cornell took its first lead in the 4th quarter 9-8. Cuse tied 3 minutes later, but Coltby CU77 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell-Harvard lacrosse thread - 5 years ago
The Penn loss put the Red in a must-win situation this week. LGR! EDIT: 4-3 Cornell after 1Q. Cornell has lost all 8 faceoffs. Harvard FOGO is the younger brother of former Cornell superstar FOGO Dom Massimillian. Caused turnovers by Cornell keeping them in the game. Offense is stretching out possession time to keep the defense rested.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell - Northeastern - 5 years ago
marty Robb For the umpteenth time, Providence was not the host. And that is the point. Twice they have been given the host perk even though they refuse to host. Of course they have. Attendance! No way is a team going to be sent to a far-away site in order to reduce attendance of their fans. That said, dumping the regionals in favor of the higher seed hosting at home for the first two roundsby CU77 - Hockey

I watched the Yianni and Dean matches on replay, both very close, won on final takedowns, Yianni's in OT, and with a controversial call going Yianni's way at the end of regulation (I don't know enough about the rules to have an opinion on it). For Dean I'm guessing it was tough to be fully psyched after beating the previously undefeated #1 seed in the semis. 7th overall with 4 All Americans iby CU77 - Other Sports
