And Penn takes Maryland to OT and loses. Harvard loses to UNC. Princeton crushes Monmouth, Dartmouth crushed by BU. Why is Cornell the only Ivy not playing this week??by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
This report was furnished to me by an attendee to yesterday's scrimmages: The weather was brutal, temperature about 30 with a continuous 15-20 mph crosswind. Wind chill in the high teens. Players wore uniforms with lower legs exposed. Not sure if a fair evaluation can be given under such adverse conditions, but suffice to say the players deserve kudos for their courage - they played as if ignoby CU77 - Other Sports

Report on yesterday's scrimmages against Drexel and Binghamton in Philly: lgr2019 Attended both scrims yesterday. Coooooooold and windy. While I don't have a final score for either, Cornell dominated Drexel from start to finish in the first game, and, well, got dominated in the second (playing only backups and young guys). McCulloch did not play with what I was told a shoulder injury but shouldby CU77 - Other Sports

STX and Inside Lacrosse are pleased to announce “The Season 2019,” a five-chapter multi-platform video and digital content series that will spotlight two of the sport’s most interesting programs: the historic Cornell Big Red men’s team, and the hard-charging Florida Gators’ women’s team. … After leading the Big Red to an NCAA Quarterfinal appearance as the interim head coach last springby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2018 - 5 years ago
Ohio State put 62 points on Michigan today, breaking a record (for regulation time) set by (wait for it) Cornell in 1891, when the Big Red beat the Wolverines 58-12 in Detroit, before a crowd of 2300.by CU77 - Other Sports

Yale tops Princeton 1-0, but Princeton gets the Ivy title and the NCAA autobid. Very unlikely that any other Ivy gets a bid.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
And they do! Red wins 2-1 in OT. But why has @CornellMSoccer not tweeted since the Dartmouth game last week? Were there not alums in NYC who might have gone to the game?by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
Well after getting to RPI #14 on Oct 10 with a record of 9-2-0, the team goes 1-4-0, with a final game against Columbia in NYC. I hope they can pull off the win to end on a high note.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
Down to #60 in RPI. Only chance now is to win the Ivy by beating Columbia and Dartmouth while Princeton loses to Penn and Yale … (no, I'm not holding my breath …)by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
Soccer selection is by committee, and is not purely mathematical. Usually selections follow RPI pretty closely, but never exactly. Having a win over a top-20 team seems to be valued for getting one of the last at-large slots.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
I doubt Cornell would get an at-large bid. Their strength-of-schedule is #150 and their best win is over #33 Colgate (and no prospect to get a better win). Compare (for example) RPI #46 UC Santa Barbara, with the #60 SOS, a win over #19 UCLA, and a draw against #15 UC Irvine. So: just win, baby!by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: M Soccer 2018 - 5 years ago
Cornell over Brown in Providence, 2-1. After Cornell committed an own goal 20 seconds into the 2nd half ("GK missed pass from Defender" ) the Red score two minutes later, and again four minutes later, then hold on for the win.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
From the forum at fanlax.com: rmredlaxwas at the scrimmage yesterday and it was a beautiful, fall day in Ithaca! As noted in the IL lacrosse article it was a very competitive, fairly even game, back and forth and plenty of action. CU took more control of the game in the 3rd/early 4th before players were subbed. Clock had minimal effect and at times, the refs had some issue keeping up with thby CU77 - Other Sports

I agree with Swampy that this is bad for the game and bad for Cornell. On the plus side, here's a nice article on the team & PM from US Lacrosse:by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
Well the early rumors were Cornell specific. A contact of mine in the athletic dept at another school (not Cornell or Albany) told me in early May to be on the lookout for a HUGE transfer to Cornell (but did not give me a name). This is not to say that the rumors were necessarily right, or that TD could not change his mind even if he was thinking of coming to Cornell originally. He will surely beby CU77 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 5 years ago
Fantastic season for the Big Red. No one outside the team expected anything like this level of success. To play the #1 seed and defending national champs in their back yard in the NCAA quarterfinals, and not come out with the win, is hardly a knock. Peter Milliman turned this team totally around. He deserves an immediate long-term contract.by CU77 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 5 years ago
The theory that the flag at the end was on Solomon of Cuse for holding on to Pulver's stick was posted by me on laxpower; it is refuted by the non-whistle when a Cuse player picks up the ball (but time was almost up at that point so it's conceivable that the ref just didn't get the whistle blown yet). IMO, the correct call was a flag on Cuse. Whether this was the actual call is known only to theby CU77 - Other Sports
