Re: Opponents and Others, 2021-22 - 2 years ago
Trotsky dbilmes Some nasty stuff going on with Michigan program, which was heavily criticized for pulling out of the second game of the Great Lakes Tournament earlier this year. Now they are being accused of having players lie about COVID exposure, among other things.Adam seems to be the guy who really dug into this story. Re: Dartmouth Game Thread - 2 years ago
scoop85 Trotsky Mike is still out. That's 4 weekends. When Schafer’s game notes from last weekend were posted earlier on the CHA website earlier this week week, they included a comment to the effect (I’m paraphrasing) “I’ve had a rough go with COVID, you should try to avoid it.” FWIW that comment is no longer there. It was in the Yale game report. Still there in bold.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Fencing - 2 years ago
Swampy Robb Weder I know nothing about fencing but just noticed that the team is 19-0 and ranked No. 9 in the country. Cornell only has women's fencing and NCAA fencing is a coed sport, so does that mean that Cornell's best hopes are to compete for individual national championships but it isn't in the picture in the team competition? No, even though the men and women typically travel togetherby David Harding - Other Sports

Weder I think the above quote is actually referring to Psenicka. Schafer did have something similar to say about Shane, though: You're right.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
Coach Schafer, quoted by Adam Woden, talking about Ian Shane but clearly applicable in general True hockey sense in all situations is the hardest thing to know about a player. You don't really know what you have until you see him (in college games). I didn't know the true extent. You try to understand it by watching video, but in recruiting you get fooled — some kids show more hockey sense, or soby David Harding - Hockey

Chris '03 upprdeck i find it interesting so many of the tested have not been of the new variant. after all fall suddenly t-day kicks off a huge outbreak for the kids, like they went home and mixed with people and boom break thru covid all over.. 10% of the kids getting sick in a week.. good news 10% so it worked for 90% I guess. Re: Yet another collegetown bar bites the dust - 2 years ago
billhoward Iceberg billhoward At some point this will be a dead forum because how many bars remain in Collegetown that can still go under? Hardly any. I was there last month visiting a friend in grad school and all the spots I had in my head (i.e. Ruloff's) were gone. We actually had to go somewhere downtown for a relaxing place that wasn't an undergrad hangout spot. It's really too bad that baby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead

mountainred 89-75 final. Big Red led by as many as 27. The last time Cornell won at Canisius, they won the league. I'm sure there is causation there, right? Heck of game by Dolan: 12 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and didn't miss a shot. Dickson added 17 points. Pretty sure this is the best the team has looked overall since 2010. I'll settle for correlation.by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
BMac Not a typo! It's really every other year as Red Hot Hockey, and on the intervening year it's called something else. Do you mean semi-annual vs. bi-annual? If so, I agree! It should be bi-annual! Adam has corrected the article to read "biennial". The original posting was "semi-annual", as I quoted.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
scoop85 Adam’s game story with some interesting quotes Adam he last time Cornell played Boston University at Madison Square Garden — as part of the teams' semi-annual Red Hot Hockey event — the Big Red were en route to a 25-2 season readying for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. I assume this was a typo, but amusing in the context of the discussion of attendance.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Red Hot Hockey "Presale" - 2 years ago
Does anyone know whether there is significant attendance from out-of-town? I live in Illinois but typically spending Thanksgiving with my sister in the area. This was first year with an MSG game that I decided I just didn't want to travel.by David Harding - Hockey

For a different experience/experiment, let me invite you to a game watch breakout room as part of the biweekly Cornell Global Mixer on Zoom this evening. The event starts at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Our host, Tony Chen, is going to designate a game watch breakout room among all the other breakout rooms. When you sign in you land in a general greeting room. Re: Interesting news about Harvard admissions - 2 years ago
Weder I know people who who were legacies and children of faculty members (sometimes both) who did not get admitted. In those cases, Cornell often offers the guaranteed transfer option -- go somewhere else for a year and if you meet whatever the GPA threshold is we'll let you in as a sophomore. Do many other elite schools do that? I remember a piece by John Marcham '50, then the editor/publisheby David Harding - Other Sports

Jim Hyla David Harding Jim Hyla I finally updated the schedule on the first post. So anyone who copies it for a compact listing, it's ready. And let me know of errors, or if we get more definitive game times and whether the BU game will really be at MSG. Trotsky There is Harvard, for smart kids. And there is "Harvard," for rich kids. This is true for every Ivy (even our beloved), but especially for HYP. 50+ years ago a Harvard alumnus visited my high school to talk with anyone who showed up and I came away with a few good lines. Someone asked about study abroad and the rep said that Harvard doesn't support study abroad. "Weby David Harding - Other Sports

andyw2100 jtwcornell91 I was listening for Davy in 3 after the 10th goal, and it didn't sound like it. Has the band forgotten about that (no lacrosse since the current seniors were freshmen), or was it just too hard to hear on the broadcast? Not sure what "Davy in 3" is, but I'm somewhat surprised you could hear much of the band on the broadcast at all. By the end of the game I tby David Harding - Hockey
