Re: Congress allows Ivy League antitrust exemption to expire - 1 year ago
billhoward osorojo All this bushwa about the "best" ranked colleges/universities is an exercise comparing wrestlers to high-jumpers. e.g.: Which is better, Cornell's Veterinary School or Harvard's Foreign Language Department? There is money to be made rating colleges. There is intense interest among high schoolers and parents in knowing which is the best school to attend – or "giveby David Harding - Hockey

Mike Garman has taken on the role of head coach of the Chicago Steel (USHL). He was promoted from associate coach to general manager a year ago and now wears both the GM and head coach hats. One of the players on the team is Cornell commit Charlie Majors.by David Harding - Hockey

ACM dbilmes arugula Yes the inaccuracies, bad grammar, and poor syntax are rather shocking. I don't know if Brandon Thomas still works for the Sports Information Office, but if he does, I'm sure this wasn't written by him. He doesn't. He left at the end of last season for another job at Cornell. ?by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2026 admissions disclosure - 1 year ago
billhoward One wonders how much it's a business decision to fill so much of your entering class in mid-December. So many ways to slice the data. Such as the ED accept rate vs regular rate for under-represented groups. Scoop them up before someone else does. Underrepresented groups like athletes?by David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell football 2022 - 1 year ago
RichH Swampy …we went on to win NC's in all 3 sports. Would anyone seriously criticize AN or MP for their poor handling of athletics? *cough* Yes, absolutely. Sorry, but a couple high-profile teams winning isn’t the only metric of a job like A.D. Unless the team is football?????by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: Ithaca Crime Rate - 1 year ago
scoop85 Friends who live in Ithaca are reporting an increase in violent crime in the city. I wasn't sure if that was just hyperbole, but this data seems to bear that out, as Ithaca is deemed safer (by this criteria) than only 5% of U.S. cities. But as per an Ithaca Times story from last year, the statistics don't appear so dire. I'm curious what other folks in the area are seeing as to any recby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell football 2022 - 1 year ago
George64 wolcoma The reality is President Martha Pollack hates athletics at Cornell. She is currently running many of our sports teams off campus to East Hill Plaza. The Cornell University Master Plan that envisions the Game Farm Road athletic complex is dated 2015. Martha Pollack assumed office in April 2017. The Reis Tennis Center on Pine Tree Road was built in 1993. The train left the sby David Harding - Other Sports

Re: Ertel to OHL - 1 year ago
marty Dafatone Swampy Maybe Ertel is leaving because Cornell's academics were more than he bargained for. Didya ever think of that? Oh wait. He was is the hotel school. Nevermind. It's not like he's leaving for some easier school. It is possible that hotel school was more than he bargained for. Re: 2022-23 Women's Schedule - 1 year ago
billhoward arugula Is it naive of me to be surprised at that date--right in the middle of finals. Might be even tougher on the Ohio State players, on the road and all, during exams. Perhaps. Nope. The Finals Dec 9-15by David Harding - Hockey

On the legacy athletic fields-buildings site (Hoy, Schoellkopf, Teagle, Lynah, Friedman and the decreasing # of Upper Alumni fields) Speaking of Teagle Hall, I didn't realize until a couple of weeks ago how Walter Teagle the source of his fortune and his role in WWII. If anyone in Cornell's history deserves to be cancelled, he must be near the top of the list.by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: New indoor campus recreation & sports center - 1 year ago
George64 billhoward Legend has it the campus store construction ran into bedrock -- imaginine that -- closer to the slope of the earth between Day Hall and the Straight. The whole idea of the design was you wouldn't even know the building was there. Rather than dig / jackhammer / dynamite the rock, it was just built enough higher that the sightline up from the Straight all but hides Day Hall.by David Harding - Other Sports

Scersk '97 marty Au contraire, Andy will have a lot of free time as AD emeritus or whatever he's going to be called. Just have him make the asks. His track football record speaks for itself. Re: Cornell admissions - 1 year ago
Robb CAS I disagree with Robb that the tremendous increase in applicants are of students who generally aren’t that outstanding. The last year that Cornell provided detailed analysis of the applicant pool was for the Class of 2023, when Cornell accepted fewer than 11% of applicants. In that year, the majority of applicants (not admits) had SATs higher than 1450. Since then applications have increby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
BearLover CU77 Why do "casual fans" want to turn every sport into basketball? If you like basketball, there's no shortage, go watch basketball! Me, I hate basketball and always have. Most boring sport on the planet. It’s not just basketball, it’s practically every other sport (football, baseball, tennis, …) that alternates possession. Lacrosse is the exception. George64 CU2007 What are tie breakers for the 4 spot if we end up tied? The tied teams play a best three out of five, three-on-three half-court tournament. If unresolved, consecutive rounds of H-O-R-S-E. If still not resolved, rock-paper-scissors. . LOLby David Harding - Other Sports
