Re: Men's basketball 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Pretty mediocre final home stand. Double digit loss to Dartmouth. Nine point loss to Harvard, but the Crimson led by 20 and there was never a moment in the second half where the BR had a realistic shot of winning. My take is that a big man would be great, but Earl needs to recruit better at all positions. Dickson (So.) and Filien (Fr.) have gotten regular minutes the last two weekends and hby mountainred - Other Sports

Never noticed the drift -- maybe we just want this season to be over? I think Scoop called the guys the best 1-7 team in the country a few months back. Not to bring back any painful memories, a couple of those close losses came after blowing big leads, so they felt terrible.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2019-20 - 4 years ago
klehner We still don't know much about Womack's condition. In addition, I still find it very strange that Berreyesa gave up his ORS just so he could do a few duals: I guess he might have been insurance in case Womack couldn't come back. But in that case, who cares? Cornell isn't winning EIWAs even if Womack wins at 174. A part of me is holding out hope that Berreyesa goes 165 in two weeks...by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2019-20 - 4 years ago
ugarte scoop85 ugarte Berreyesa started hot but now that it's clear that his game is upper body throws, he is not doing that well. From the little I know of wrestling it does seem Berreyesa is a one-trick pony who needs to expand his repertoire.easier said than done: he's a world class greco-roman wrestler and the rules are just different in freestyle. it's like introducing a boxer to MMAby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
I've been down on Knapp, but he had a very good weekend. 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists tonight. McBride also had 17 on terrific shooting. Also, more good nights for some youngsters. Dickson had 10 points, 9 rebounds and pair of blocks. The freshman Filien yanked down 9 rebounds. Dolan had 7 points and a pair of steals. It really didn't look like the same team from last weekend.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
Still no Boeheim, but it doesn't matter as Cornell is blowing out Brown by 20. Really didn't see this coming, but hats off to Coach Earl and the team for the massive turnaround from last weekend. EDIT: 63-45 final.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
Yale wins 81-80. McBride hits a backdoor lay-up from Dickson to give Cornell the lead, but gave Yale too much time. McBride with a monster game: 27p, 5r, 5a. The youngsters Dickson, Dolan and Filien played a bunch of solid minutes, which was nice to see.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
Hosting the Ivy's best team, Yale, with Jimmy Boeheim out for the weekend. Should be ugly. At the Half: Cornell leads 37-32. Sports are weird. Going to OT at 60. Which is bittersweet because the BR had a 60-52 lead with 3 minutes to go. Going to double OT at 69. Paul Atkinson misses two at the line with 4 seconds left that could have won it for Yale.by mountainred - Other Sports

billhoward mountainred So, Boeheim sprains his ankle 5 minutes in, and things have gone about as you would expect. Fun fact: Dartmouth's 44-25 halftime lead is the largest they've had in an Ivy game this millennium. Final: Dartmouth 75 Cornell 53. This team is pretty dreadful without Jimmy. I mean, they aren't good with him. Good god, many, do you actually research this? If so, you've been iby mountainred - Other Sports

Re: Wrestling 2019-20 - 4 years ago
ugarte The NCAA tournament qualification process for wrestling is really complicated - I don't know all of the rules but I'm working on it. A simplified version is that the performance of a conference's wrestlers over the course of the regular season determines the allocation of automatic qualifiers at each weight to that conference's tournament. A few slots at each weight are reserved for at-larby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
ugarte Rolled by Harvard 85-63. I didn't see it but it was a blowout from the tip. Missed it too, but can say it was something like 42-15 at the half. Completely non-competitive. EDIT: Checked the box and Harvard scored the first 12 points and lead by double digits the rest of the way.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte mountainred ugarte 125: Dom LaJoie had to face #3 Patrick Glory - who beat Arujau in the EIWA final last year - and could not quite keep it to a regular decision, losing 9-0. [4-4] Very true, but as a fan of Vito, I would like to add that Arujau dominated Glory in dual meet (2nd period WBF) and finished higher at the NCAA's (4th v. 6th). This ends this unpaid announcement of Vitoby mountainred - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio ugarte One perfect scramble and counter by Stefanik broke a 92 match winning streak. Very hard to feel bad - his face was euphoric. I don't feel bad. Great move by Stefanik...sort of a Yianni last few seconds snatching victory from the jaws of defeat move. Coming that close to winning the dual with a team missing three of its--and the nation's--best wrestlers, was a helluva showing.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte mountainred ugarte ESPN+ at 1, in Princeton. Let's Go Red! If we win the tossups we can do this. Probably need them all -- or an unexpected pin -- but a win is doable. Figure Princeton is the heavy favorite at 125, 157, and, now, 149. Probably favored at 165 too. If Cornell steals any of those 4, things are going well. Can't get the sweep though: Penn 79-73. Not a bad game, but the Quakers got to the rim way too easily (27 shots at the rim and they made 19). Needed Josh Warren to hit his first 5 three point bombs just to keep it close. Now projected to finish tied with Dartmouth for 6th, one game ahead of Columbia. And 4 games out of the ILT, just in case you were curious.by mountainred - Other Sports

A little more drama than ideal, but the guys get a big win over league leading Princeton 73-62. They never trailed. The defense had the Tigers rattled the and the offense got big games from the tri-Captains Warren (18p, 10r), Boeheim (24p, 9r) and McBride (14p, 5a). Probably their best game of the season.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte 5 wrestlers currently in the top 33 of the Coaches' Rankings, with LaJoie and Baughman probably on the fringes. This is going to be a tough year for the Red in the postseason, though. Other than Tucker (who will keep every match nerve wrackingly close) and Darmstadt (if healthy), who could make a deep run? Berreyesa, maybe? But the true studs probably stay away from his throws. blackwidow ugarte ugarte I have to look weight by weight to predict princeton. I've been worried all year. After further review I'm more than a little worried. We may even win six matches but Princeton looks much more likely to score bonus points, particularly at 125, 157 and 197. Not impossible to win but we have to keep our losses close. scoop85 Jeff Hopkins '82 scoop85 Hoops losing to a poor Columbia team 48-29 at the half in NYC. We’ve now officially become a shit-show. What were we before? Piss poor? Well, we had been competitive against better competition earlier in the year, and in fact led in many of the games. Now we can’t seem to compete with another Ivy bottom-feeder. Other than Ben's injury, it was a positive Saturday. As they say, "other" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. The greyshirts had a nice weekend at the Shorty Hitchcock. Jacob Cardenas won at 197 pounds; Ramirez took 2nd at 165 (though he was schooled by a former 4-time AA in the finals); Fernandes took 3rd at 285 (he lost to a stud Penn State recruit in the semis and had 3 oneby mountainred - Other Sports

Elmira was a last minute add to "replace" the canceled home game with Towson and break up what would have been an 11 game lay-off. I'm not a big fan of D3 games, but finding out of conference opponents in early January is almost impossible because the rest of the world is playing in conference unless there is TV $$$$.
