American 65 Men's B-Ball 63 - 12 years ago
So much for going into exams with a winning record. The good news -- 1) Wroblewski shot the ball well and had his best game of the season. 21 points, 6 assists, 4 Rebounds. Maybe the shooting slump is over. 2) Figini played like the post player the team needs him to be. 14 points, 5 rebounds and no three point attempts until the last minute when taking the three was the thing to do. 3)by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 71 (screw) BU 66 - 12 years ago
semsox mountainred Disappointing result in Delaware. I couldn't watch the game, but from the box Coach C seems to have established a 7 man rotation: 4 guards, Eitan/Josh in the post and Miller. Unfortunately, the Big Red couldn't shoot (37.5% from the field) and couldn't rebound the missed shots (7 offensive rebounds on 40 missed shots). Not a good combination. Did anyone watch the gameby mountainred - Other Sports

I had same thought Philly. Of course, last year's team didn't have Miller or Cancer, and both made plays down the stretch of the "we're not losing this game" variety. A nice attitude to see. And we should mention Eitan's late rebound of Ferry's FT miss which was a very nice job of getting smart position at a critical moment. Men's Basketball 71 (screw) BU 66 - 12 years ago
Nice home win and we have two freshman starters. Cancer played 32 minutes (7 pts, 5 Reb, 4 Asts, and 4 rookie TO's). Miller had 10 points and 6 boards over 28 minutes. In the last minute of a one point game, Miller pulled down a huge rebound and Cornell set up a play for Cancer to post-up his man. He hit the finger roll and the Big Red hit 7 of 8 from the line to secure the win. Eitan and Fiby mountainred - Other Sports

That same story refers to Austin going back as an "unlikely event" and a "miraculous comeback." Doesn't seem like the article's author was giving it much of a possibility.by mountainred - Other Sports

Great win. Dake, Bosak and Simaz were dominant against top 10 ranked wrestlers. Eifert and Nevinger had gutty come from behind wins against ranked opponents. Billy George wins a big match against a Minnesota sub (a break for the good guys). Perrelli and Peppelman lose tight matches to very good opponents, no shame there. Halftime == tied at 9. Great come from behind wins by Nevinger and Eifert balance out a pin at 133. Dake wins 5-0, but no bonus points for the team.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 59 Buffalo 68 - 12 years ago
Eitan's improvement from his freshman year has been nothing short of remarkable. He's a good offensive player now; he positions himself well; has a nice touch around the basket and play the center position aggressively. Despite all of his hard work and effort, I worry that he's still not athletic enough or strong enough to match up with the better centers he'll face (witness his 4 fouls per gamby mountainred - Other Sports

#5 Wrestling v. # 3 Golden Rodents - 12 years ago
Hard to believe this hasn't gotten a mention yet. Minnesota is stacked; every projected starter is ranked in the top 10. Based on rankings, Cornell is only favored at three weights with Dake, Bosak and Simaz. This is a huge early test but could be a coming out party for a couple youngsters. It will have to be to get the win.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 59 Buffalo 68 - 12 years ago
I was only listening, not watching, so I trust you. 1-2 is where I expected the team to be, though I hoped to steal an extra win. Not sure how accurate KenPom's ratings are this early in the season, but he ranks Cornell's next four opponents at 187 (BU), 210 (Delaware), 261 (American) and 155 (Lehigh). Any word on Peck? I will be interested in seeing how the rotation changes upon his returnby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 59 Buffalo 68 - 12 years ago
Seemed like the refs thought they were being paid by the charge call. I'd call the loss frustrating but not crushing as Buffalo is a fringe top 100 team and the BR hung with them. The next four games before exams will be critical -- all are very winnable.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 76 Binghamton 61 - 12 years ago
Best part was that the second half explosion was not just barrage of threes, but a sustainable inside-out offense. Miller,Peck and Tarwater give the Big Red three viable forwards.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Hoops preview - 12 years ago
One minor correction-- Cornell shot a torrid first 15 minutes -- I'm not sure they hit a three after that and were outscored by 25 or so the rest of the way. Cancer made more than his share of freshman mistakes, but I loved how he attacked the basket aggressively. If he can learn to kick it out to Ski and Ferry, and I think he will, he will be a weapon. Tarwater and Miller both looked soliby mountainred - Other Sports

Thanks Philly. Not sure how I will juggle Bball and Hockey, but I am interested in seeing if my home computer can handle it. Looking forward to seeing Coach C's rotation and seeing which newbies (including Scelfo and Tarwater) get quality minutes.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 24 Bucknell 13 football 9/17/11 - 12 years ago
billhoward Bucknell held possession 34 minutes to 26 minutes (but when you go 87 yards on one play, you give the ball back quickly) Four scoring drives that took less than five minutes combined -- not exactly the way to build time of possession.by mountainred - Other Sports

ben03 the right player won the Tewaaraton ... it's awarded for the entirety of the season. Stanwick ended our season and won a NC ... pretty simple - he wins. I'm not sure the right person won so much as the predictable person won. Other than the first year, the rule is a Tewaarton finalist on the national champ is going to win the award unless there is a more appealing choice on the nationalby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball Announces Class of 2015 - 12 years ago
Looks like a huge (and necessary) talent infusion. Potential heirs to Wrobo and Ferry in Cancer and Cherry (who both come from winning programs); some bigs in LaMore and Tomic; an "upside gamble" in Giddens and an athletic wing (Miller) who played at the highest level of Ohio basketball. With a rising junior class that looks to be settling in as a class of role players (which you needby mountainred - Other Sports

Re: CU - Va Lax - 13 years ago
Still hard to know what to think about this team. The three wins were against lesser teams with the kind of ease you would want. Both times Cornell played a top squad (and I'm not even sure how "top" Army is) they've lost a competitive game. In both losses, Cornell was stoned by some great goalie play, but is that because the goalies were spectactular or because the Big Red's shots wby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: general 2010-2011 basketball season thread - 13 years ago
Harvard has a shot, but its primarily because the teams on the cut line are so very, very ordinary. This morning Joe Lunardi started floating their name as a possibility and he is generally pretty in tune with the selection committee's thinking. I don't think they will and really don't want them to -- I want Amaker to wait as long as possible -- so I have no interest in your bet ugarte. Pairby mountainred - Other Sports

Re: general 2010-2011 basketball season thread - 13 years ago
Wins in the Palestra are few and far between for Cornell; wasn't there a twenty-odd game losing streak there for the Big Red? Now, the team is two home games against Brown (who they beat) and Yale (who they should have) from finishing 6-8 in the League, something I really didn't think was possible after the 0-5 start. Unlike some Ivy squads who started the way Cornell started, this team didn'tby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football -- The Future Starts Now - 13 years ago
Incomplete and probably not overly accurate. The difference between a two star and a three star player is often whether the guy is on the radar of a FBS school. The difference between a two star and no star is often whether someone shared video with Rivals and if the administrator from some school's board presses the issue. I've seen more than one kid go from no stars to three the moment WVU oby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Hobart lax - 13 years ago
Agree on Fiore. Hard to tell on Redcast, but none of his goals looked particularly soft and he seemed to make some nice saves. He just needs to relax a bit on the clear and not try to force things; bad passes led to to two TOs and Statesmen goals.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Hobart lax - 13 years ago
All in all, a good start to the DeLuca era. I think Hobart scored 2 or 3 goals after Fiore makes the save, Cornell takes possession, and then there is a turnover point blank in front of the crease. You have to hope that improves.by mountainred - Other Sports

Eitan has been an enormous surprise to me this season. Before the season, the only expectation I had for his career was that he'd get a degree from a great university. He looked so scrawny and his high school league didn't test him at all; I assumed he'd spend his career on the deep bench until he decided to focus on his academics. Then, after more than a season and a half of DNPs, he's averagby mountainred - Other Sports

Personally Philly, I don't think a shot by Mark counts as a good look, by definition. Not trying to pick on Coury, he's been very solid the past couple of weeks, but he will never be known for his scoring touch. The last minute of the game sums up the difference between Cornell and Princeton this year -- with one possession to win the game, Princeton got the ball to their best player on the nigby mountainred - Other Sports
