Re: Cornell-Maryland NCAA lax 2013 - other 1st round Saturday - 10 years ago
I believe you mean "the The Ohio State." They're very particular about that "The". Cornell up 7-4 early third quarter. Looking strong defensively. Fiore with some big saves. Pannell his usual brilliant self. Three goals already and two assists.by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Re: Two NHL games at Yankee Stadium next year - 11 years ago
Keep dreaming. Schedule for next season likely already completely done, contracts signed and everything. Things like this generally have to be worked out long in advance.by Thomas Larson - Hockey

Re: Women this weekend on ESPN3 - 11 years ago
Trotsky TowerroadThe RPI product is good, very good. If this was a hockey game the score would be RPI 6 Redcast 0. (thank heavens it is not)Not surprised. Who do we have to blow to wake Cornell up to reality? Redcast is a Model T trying to compete in F-1. Okay, serious answers now. Not hyperbole. How much would you ACTUALLY pay to get this quality video at our home games for a season? Currentby Thomas Larson - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Sunday game has to be early because of NCAA selections, which are that night at 6 p.m. They can't play that game at 7. Maybe the latest would be 3 p.m. start, but that's pushing it if SLU wins because they're not going to get a bid unless they win. That would only give committee an hour to redraw the bracket. That said, not sure about Saturday's reasoning. ::EDIT:: Also, just checked on otby Thomas Larson - Hockey

One of the league's top people had a death in the family. One person was doing the job of two this weekend.by Thomas Larson - Hockey
Re: RIP @ Cornell - 11 years ago
Do we need any disparaging names for the teams? I think they're all silly, from "Aints" to "Onion" to -- gasp -- "Sucks." I know, I know. Blasphemy.by Thomas Larson - Hockey
Re: RIP @ Cornell - 11 years ago
Love the win. Great game. But am I the only one who thinks "RIP" is insufferably lame?by Thomas Larson - Hockey

Is it just me, or is Cornell playing the best hockey of any team in the league right now?by Thomas Larson - Hockey

The lesson is to never trust the Sun, even though they likely take things straight from CBR writeup which has the numbers corret.by Thomas Larson - Hockey
Re: Men's soccer off to 8-0 start - 11 years ago
Ken70 Syracuse is a great draw. On first look, and I may be wrong, they look like the lowest ranked (NCAA RPI) at-large team in the tournament. Only common opp. was Colgate: they won 6-0, we won 3-1. They've played some very good teams (ND, St. Johns, Louisville) but lost them all. If (big IF) we move on VCU is a lot better 2nd round draw than Brown got: Maryland. dag14 Dartmouth wins in OT Which means we win at least share of Ivy League. Also get the NCAA bid from the Ivy Leaguue because we beat Dartmouth head to head.by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Re: Men's soccer now 14-1 - 11 years ago
Five minutes into overtime right now. Dartmouth win gives us a share of the league title at worst.by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Men's soccer now 14-1 - 11 years ago
Kind of cool to the see the Dartmouth game-winning goal on YouTube. Wish they'd put up more highlights. Anyone there to see it in person?by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Re: Yale, and beyond - 11 years ago
This guy over from the other coast does a pretty solid job trying to estimate the RPI. By his guess, we're 32 right now. You'd like us to be a bit higher, but a win over Brown would help out a lot next weekend. He updates very regularly -- already has today's result accounted for -- though not sure how accurate he is. David Harding mattj711 2012-2013 Season Preview: Cornell Big Red needs an editor: ITHACA, N.Y. – The winningest senior class in Cornell history has departed, but the Big Red women's hockey team doesn't plan on going anywhere. After reaching the Frozen Four for the third consecutive year in 2011-2012, a strong Cornell team will return to Lynah Rink this year with its sights set on a trip to Minnby Thomas Larson - Hockey

Ben Thomas LarsonThis undefeated run has to end soon, right? DON'T SAY THAT WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT -edit- That sounded angrier than it should have. Either way, defeatism is punishable by death. Yale is next, they're pretty mediocre. I take it you don't believe in Bill Simmons reverse jinxes?by Thomas Larson - Other Sports

Can I change the name of this thread? I'm underselling them with "8-0." This undefeated run has to end soon, right?by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Re: Men's soccer off to 8-0 start - 11 years ago
They got another Ivy League player of the week apparently. 9-0 now. Harvard not supposed to be good. 10-0 seems a real possibility.by Thomas Larson - Other Sports

So apparently men's soccer is undefeated and number 22 in the country? Anyone following this team at all?by Thomas Larson - Other Sports
Re: RedCast improvements wishlist - 11 years ago
Did no one else read the CBR press release? Key sentences: "RedCast has added multi-bitrate streams that work similar to ESPN3 broadcasts. This delivers videos with the resolution and bit rate that best matches the viewer's connection speed, adjusting as your network connectivity improves or decreases during the broadcast. The highest speed internet connections will get an HD feed equivalby Thomas Larson - Hockey

Al DeFlorio Thomas Larson Providence was a 16-16-4 team this season. One game does not a season make, and that counts for Cornell too. I stand by my Providence preference.Thomas, you take this board too seriously. Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: March 2012 - 12 years ago
Robert Morris will not make the tournament. That conference doesn't get an auto-bid. Mercyhurst still likely to make the tournament based on Pairwise. Likely teams to come to Ithaca next week include St. Lawrence (again), Northeastern, BU or Providence (if it beats BU tomorrow). Obviously you'd hope for Providence.by Thomas Larson - Hockey

Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: February 2012 - 12 years ago
Apparently ECAC Women's Tournament games will be on redcast like every other game, at least according to the Cornell release. So that will be fun to watch online if you can't go in person.by Thomas Larson - Hockey

Also just saw Karpenko nominated for Defensive Forward. I say she's got less of a chance to win than Saulnier but still a pretty good chance.by Thomas Larson - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: February 2012 - 12 years ago
Jill Saulnier (or The Honey Badger as some of you like to call her) has been named a finalist for league ROY. No surprise there. Would it be more surprising if she lost than if she won? I think so.by Thomas Larson - Hockey
